Puducherry trains 81 healthcare professionals in toxicology
The poisoning manual, tailored to the toxicological profile of the union territory, is aimed at standardising the management of poisoning cases across all healthcare levels. It will be distributed to primary health centres (PHCs), community health centres (CHCs), and the district hospital. Designed for doctors and nurses, the manual ensures evidence-based and uniform treatment protocols in poisoning emergencies.
The TOXI-TRAIN workshop was jointly organised by IGMC&RI's Department of Emergency Medicine & Trauma, the INDIA-EMS Project (supported by the Indian Council of Medical Research), and the Directorate of Health & Family Welfare Services. The programme focused on enhancing Puducherry's capacity to handle poisoning cases through hands-on training and knowledge dissemination.

Rs 750 crore cancer hospital project works launched in Amaravati
VIJAYAWADA: Hindupur MLA and Basavatarakam Indo American Cancer Hospital & Research Institute (BIACH&RI) Chairman Nandamuri Balakrishna on Wednesday launched construction of a state-of-the-art cancer care campus at Thullur in the Amaravati capital region. Spread across 21 acres, the facility will serve as a Centre of Excellence for cancer treatment, research, and patient-centric care. The foundation for the hospital, a trusted name for over 25 years, was laid in 2019 after the then TDP government allotted land. Construction was delayed due to 'unforeseen circumstances' and alleged negligence by the previous YSRCP government. Balakrishna said the project has now been revived under Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu, with the State government clearing all hurdles and allotting an additional six acres. Ministers P Narayana, Y Satya Kumar Yadav, MP Kesineni Shivnath (Chinni), MLA Tenali Sravan Kumar, and BIACH&RI board members and Nara Brahmani were present at the ceremony. Balakrishna said the Rs 750 crore first phase will feature a 500-bed facility with precision diagnostics and advanced surgical technology, expected to be operational by 2028. The second phase will add 500 beds, research wings, and specialised departments. Calling the hospital a non-profit, Balakrishna thanked donors, partners, and well-wishers. 'Our mission is to bring hope and healing to every patient, every day,' he said.

Vijayawada: The construction of a new, state-of-the-art cancer care campus for Basavatarakam Indo-American Cancer Hospital & Research Institute (BIACH&RI) has officially begun in, a part of Andhra Pradesh's capital region. The foundation stone was laid on Wednesday by the hospital's chairman, Nandamuri Balakrishna, in a traditional puja ceremony. The project, which faced significant delays after its initial foundation stone was laid in 2019, is now moving forward following the new state government's decision to clear all hurdles and allot an additional six acres of land. The new facility will be built on a total of 21 acres. Speaking at the launch, Balakrishna explained that the new campus is envisioned as a 'Centre of Excellence' for comprehensive cancer treatment, research, and patient care. The facility will integrate cutting-edge medical technology with a multidisciplinary approach. The second phase will add another 500 beds, bringing the total capacity to 1,000. It will include the development of specialised departments, research wings, and enhanced patient amenities, with the goal of creating a regional referral center for complex cancer cases. The launch event was attended by several dignitaries, including Assembly Speaker Ch Ayyanna Patrudu, ministers P Narayana and Y Satya Kumar, along with MP Kesineni Shivnath, MLA Tenali Sravan Kumar, Dr Undavalli Sridevi and other prominent leaders and officials. Trust board members, including Dr Dattatreyudu Nori and Nara Brahmani, were also present. In his remarks, Balakrishna expressed his gratitude to all donors and supporters, emphasising that the project would carry forward the hospital's legacy of compassion and excellence.
