Time of India2 days ago

Nagpur: Bhim Sena has drawn up a plan for the NMC polls saying they will focus on upgrading education infrastructure which is the 'biggest need of citizens'.
The party's Nagpur district president Rakesh Dhargave told TOI that his party will contest independently on all seats in the NMC polls, denying possibility of any alliance.
Dhargave said, "Our poll promise will be to upgrade NMC schools to English medium which will drive enrolment.
We will also provide tax rebates to those families who enrol their kids in NMC schools."
He added that private English medium schools are now 'unaffordable' for many. Dhargave said, "There is nothing in this world which is more important for parents than to provide good education to their children. This education will enable them to fulfil their dreams in the future.
It will be our endeavour to keep on upgrading the quality of education in civic schools."
For their political strategy, Dhargave said there will be no alliance for the polls. Dhargave said, "We will soon start screening candidates and we will contest every seat. There is no possibility of alliance with any other party, because we are confident that people will trust us with their valuable votes."
When asked how Bhim Sena will compete against established parties like the BJP and Congress, Dhargave said, "It's all about convincing people about our intent.

We are looking to provide top class civic infrastructure which really matters, like education and health."
On overcoming concerns by voters regarding trusting a party which is not in power either at the centre or the state, Dhargave said, "We do not wish to fight the state or the Centre, rather we want to work along with them. We will tell the people how we plan to work with the state and Centre. And about funds, the civic body has its own budget and we will ensure that it is utilised optimally."
Dhargave denied that his party is aping the Aam Aadmi Party model where focus was on civic benefits for citizens. Dhargave said, "We are different because we are not giving anything away for free, if voted to power. The intent is to provide services to citizens which is mandated by the Constitution."

Ex-UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak Makes Preference Clear Ahead Of RCB vs PBKS IPL Final. Says "Married Into..."

Former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom (UK) Rishi Sunak has made his preference clear ahead of the highly-anticipated Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 final between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Punjab Kings (PBKS). Sunak has pledged his loyalty for RCB, ahead of the match where both teams will be vying for their very first title. In fact, Sunak stated that he supported RCB owing to the Bangalore connection of his wife Akshata Murty. Sunak even stated that owning one of Virat Kohli 's bats - which he had been gifted - is one of his prized possessions. "I'm married into a Bangalore family, so RCB is my team," Sunak told Times of India. "We went to matches a long time ago and I used to cheer them on in Downing Street," Sunak added, elaborating on his long-standing support for the franchise. RCB will be playing their fourth IPL final in 2025, having lost all three previous finals. On the other hand, PBKS will be playing their second final, having lost to Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in 2014. Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar had presented Sunak one of Kohli's bats in a meet, which Sunak labelled as a prized possession. "It's one of my prized possessions," Sunak said. Sunak also lauded the way the IPL improves cricketers, and mentioned that he's hoping for big contributions from RCB's English stars like Phil Salt and Liam Livingstone. Jacob Bethell was also a part of the RCB setup, but had to leave to join England on international duty. "The IPL has transformed cricket. Every cricketer, everywhere, wants to play in the IPL at some point in their career now. I was at Edgbaston last week watching England vs West Indies. Jacob Bethell played a brilliant innings. The IPL has improved him as a player," Sunak said. "It's been great for the women's game, getting more girls into the sport. But it's also a sign of the influence that India now has in the 21st century. India's passions, India's tastes now have global impact," Sunak said, speaking on the IPL and Women's Premier League (WPL)'s influence. PBKS topped the IPL 2025 points table, but were thoroughly outclassed by RCB in Qualifier 1. PBKS bounced back by beating Mumbai Indians (MI) in Qualifier 2, booking their spot in the final. The IPL 2025 final starts at 7:30 PM on Tuesday, June 3, and is taking place at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

'How is that possible?': CNN's Harry Enten Shocked as GOP holds economic edge over Democrats

CNN's Harry Enten Recent polling data, showing Democrats still trailing Republicans on economic issues, has left CNN analyst shocked. CNN analyst Harry Enten was surprised at Democrats' failure to narrow the gap with Republicans on economic issues, traditionally a crucial voter concern, despite economic uncertainties, market fluctuations and President Trump's controversial tariff policies. The analyst presented data showing Republican gains over Democrats, notwithstanding concerns about Trump's economic strategies. "You'd expect that Democrats would have this massive lead on the economy — it ain't so! It ain't so!" Enten remarked whilst presenting new CNN polling data demonstrating GOP's substantial advantage. The May survey, released Sunday, showed Republicans maintaining an eight-point lead over Democrats regarding economic views. This result remained within the margin of error compared to a November 2023 poll showing an 11-point Republican advantage. Enten expressed disbelief at these results, questioning how Republicans maintained their lead despite recession fears, market volatility, and unpopular tariffs. He highlighted additional polls showing even more concerning results for Democrats, including a Reuters/Ipsos poll indicating expanding Republican margins on economic matters under Trump. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Free P2,000 GCash eGift UnionBank Credit Card Apply Now Undo 'How is that possible, Democrats!?' the CNN analyst said. 'How is it possible after all the recession fears? After the stock market's been doing all of this, after all the tariffs that Americans are against, and Republicans still hold an eight-point lead on the economy? Are you kidding me!?' Enten continued. The analyst particularly emphasised polling about which party represents the middle class, traditionally a Democratic stronghold. Recent CNN polls showed the parties at a tie among registered voters, a significant shift from Democrats' 23-point advantage in 1989, which decreased to 17 points in 2016 and four points in 2022. Enten concluded that this shift in middle-class representation particularly highlighted Democratic challenges, noting that "Donald Trump and the Republican Party have taken that mantle away ... Republicans have completely closed the gap."

Jammu and Kashmir LG dismisses 3 more government employees for alleged links with terror groups

Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Tuesday terminated the services of three more government employees for their alleged involvement with Pakistan-based terror groups, Lashkar-e-Taiba and Hizbul Mujahideen, NDTV reported. This takes the number of such terminations since 2020 to 83. The three persons who have been removed are Malik Ishfaq Naseer, a police constable, Ajaz Ahmed, a government school teacher and Waseem Ahmad Khan, a junior assistant at the Government Medical College in Srinagar, according to government orders issued by the general administration department. The government orders announcing the sackings said that the three persons had been dismissed under Article 311 of the Constitution. This provision protects civil servants from arbitrary dismissal but allows exceptions on the grounds of national security. Commenting on the terminations, Peoples Democratic Party chief Mehbooba Mufti asked why the Jammu and Kashmir government was watching the development 'completely unmoved like a mute bystander'. 'Since 2019 hundred of employees have been summarily dismissed without even a trial solely based on unproven allegations of so called terror affiliations,' Mufti said. 'While this iron fist approach may create a facade of normalcy genuine sustainable peace can't be achieved by inflicting suffering on people.' In the days leading up to the sacred occasion of Eid three government employees have been terminated over alleged links to terrorism leaving their families in distress. 'Time has come to stop this whole practice or retribution,' he said on X. 'This termination concept has been going on for decades. It has not helped in the past. It will not help in the future.' In February as well, Opposition parties had criticised Chief Minister Omar Abdullah for not halting the terminations.
