First Look Image of HARRY POTTER Revealed as HBO Starts Production On New Series — GeekTyrant
The photo shows McLaughlin in his Hogwarts robes and wearing the iconic glasses, stepping into a role that Daniel Radcliffe made iconic over two decades ago. With cameras now rolling at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden in the UK, this marks a major milestone for one of HBO's most ambitious projects to date.
The series is being described as a 'faithful adaptation' of J.K. Rowling's original books, and the studio is aiming to deliver something epic in scope. The show is slated for a 2027 premiere on HBO Max.
The casting continues to round out with a mix of fresh faces and familiar character names. Alongside McLaughlin's Harry, Alastair Stout is playing Ron Weasley and Arabella Stanton is set as Hermione Granger, locking in the new core trio that will carry the series across its planned decade-long run.
Other recently announced cast members include Rory Wilmot as Neville Longbottom, Amos Kitson as Dudley Dursley, Louise Brealey as Madam Rolanda Hooch, and Anton Lesser as Garrick Ollivander.
These join earlier casting reveals like Lox Pratt as Draco Malfoy and Johnny Flynn as his father Lucius. The Dursley family is also taking shape with Bel Powley as Petunia and Daniel Rigby as Vernon. Rounding out the Weasley side, Katherine Parkinson will portray Molly Weasley.
Janet McTeer ( The Old Man , Kaos ) will play Professor Minerva McGonagall, with Paapa Essiedu ( The Lazarus Project ) taking on the role of Professor Severus Snape. Then there's John Lithgow, who will step into the role of Albus Dumbledore.
The series is written and executive produced by Francesca Gardiner ( Succession, His Dark Materials ) with direction from Mark Mylod ( Succession, Game of Thrones ), who will also executive produce. J.K. Rowling returns as executive producer, joined by Neil Blair and Ruth Kenley-Letts of Brontë Film and TV, and David Heyman of Heyday Films, who also produced the original Harry Potter movies.

Lorraine Kelly to front brand new travel programme on rival channel
Beloved presenter Lorraine Kelly is to front a brand new travel programme on ITV rival Channel 4. This comes after complaints and wild speculation from some fans that she barely hosts Lorraine. Very little is known about the new travel series at the moment, but it has been suggested that Channel 4 is "delighted" to have signed her. Discussing the new Lorraine Kelly series, a source told The Sun: "Channel 4 were delighted to have Lorraine on board. "It was exciting for Lorraine to do something different and be on location again. "Despite the apparent slight in the ITV daytime shake-up, Lorraine's loyal fanbase isn't to be underestimated and they will follow her wherever she goes. "She's survived in this business a long time, and she's a master at rolling with the punches." According to TV Zone, this comes after ITV confirmed a new studio home for popular daytime shows like This Morning, Loose Women and Lorraine. It was announced that these would be joining ITN's headquarters and sharing a studio with a new-look ITV News. Changes to scheduling were also confirmed, with GMB being extended by 30 minutes, running from 6am to 9:30am daily. In the 2026 Daytime schedule, Lorraine will also run from 9:30am to 10am, on a seasonal basis for 30 weeks of the year. Discussing the changes, Kevin Lygo, Managing Director of ITV's Media and Entertainment Division, said: 'Daytime is a really important part of what we do, and these scheduling and production changes will enable us to continue to deliver a schedule providing viewers with the news, debate and discussion they love from the presenters they know and trust as well generating savings which will allow us to reinvest across the programme budget in other genres... 'These changes also allow us to consolidate our news operations and expand our national, international and regional news output and to build upon our proud history of trusted journalism at a time when our viewers need accurate, unbiased news coverage more than ever.' After receiving criticism from fans after hosting just 59.7% of the episodes of her popular morning show, she took to social media to explain why. She shared: 'Initially, it was for my mum, who has been ill. 'And it sort of brings you into line with everyone else because if you look at This Morning, everybody else does four days. 'Where is Lorraine?' comes to an end after ITV's Lorraine Kelly breaks silence Emmerdale's John Middleton joins rival soap to play 'most evil character ever' Everything you can expect from the new 22 Kids and Counting specials this month 'And as I'm getting older, I want to do other things, more writing, all of that. Mate, I've been doing this for 40 years, working my a*** off.' She added: 'Maybe it just started off as a wee joke, but it's the way that everyone piles on. 'It starts off as a wee tiny thing, and it gets bigger and bigger. I find it really sad.'

Animation of Joe Wicks launched to help children keep fit
An animated character of online fitness coach Joe Wicks has been launched in a bid keep children fit over the summer holidays. The Body Coach's new animated persona talks children through exercises including jogging, squats and burpees in five-minute clips, which will be released via his YouTube channel. Wicks said the Government-backed Activate project aims to 'make movement fun'. In each clip Wicks' character performs various exercises accompanied by new animated characters known as the Activators. The first episode has been released on The Body Coach YouTube channel, with more episodes to be released each week over the school summer holidays. The animated series was launched at Ripple Primary School in Barking, east London, on Monday. Wicks and Health Secretary Wes Streeting met teachers and parents to discuss keeping children active. 'Activate is designed to make movement fun,' said Wicks. He told the PA news agency: 'We live in a world where it's very easy to be sedentary, it's very easy to rely on ultra-processed foods. 'So I think I've created something I personally think is different – it's about using technology and disrupting that passive screen time, and actually saying 'Come on kids, get up, let's do it'. 'I just want more people to see it and give it a go, because I know when they do, I think they're going to fall in love with it – the characters, the workouts and the music. 'It's going to be a really genuine useful thing for parents, I think, to get their kids moving. 'Because sometimes, especially in the summer holidays, kids are reluctant to move, this is something I think can really help with that.' Wicks went on: 'Activity doesn't have to be this perfect hour a day where you have an instructor or you're in a gym, actually, five minutes can be enough.' Health Secretary Wes Streeting told PA: 'Activate is a really great project, and the Government's proud to support it, because we want to get children, young people, more fit and active. 'One in five children are leaving primary school with obesity, so this is a really big challenge for us. 'And the truth is, if this was just a sort of boring government video it wouldn't have nearly as much success and impact as I think Activate is going to have, where you've got the energy and dynamism of Joe Wicks combined with some of the best creative minds and talents in our country and around the world. 'I think it's going to make it fun, I think it's going to make it accessible and that is the key to getting children and young people fit and active – meeting them where they are, making it accessible, making it free and making it fun.' Almost one in 10 children in reception year at school were obese, according to figures from the National Childhood Measurement Programme in England. This rises to 22.1% of pupils in Year 6, according to the 2023/24 data.
