SARA ALZAABI (ABU DHABI)Women have been making a mark in the UAE's industrial landscape - and, with the support of the government, some have started their own ventures, built their facilities, and now on their way to global success. At this year's Make it in the Emirates (MIITE) forum, the Khalifa Fund for Enterprise Development showcases more than 15 innovative Emirati-led projects, including those led by female entrepreneurs. Among them is Khadija Al Ameri, who has established a UAE-made keto chocolate brand called ingfit. The idea, she said, was to produce a healthy, tasty treat that is "sugar-free, diabetic-friendly, and made with clean ingredients that reflect the UAE's commitment to quality and innovation"."We produce locally, use responsible packaging, and reduce reliance on imports-all while promoting healthier lifestyles," Al Ameri told Aletihad. With support from Khalifa Fund, Al Ameri was able secure a certified factory partner in Dubai and navigate regulatory challenges, she said. "We aim to lead the UAE's healthy chocolate segment and contribute to national goals for economic diversification and industrial innovation," she added. With her participation in MIITE, she now hopes to find partners that will help the brand grow beyond the UAE. Manufacturing Bakery EquipmentAnother entrepreneur, Khadija Abdullah, has built a factory that now produces high-quality bakery tools and equipment - from ovens, dough sheeters and bread cutters to automated systems tailored to their clients' needs.
"We are the first UAE and Gulf-based factory in this sector. Our designs are tailored for local needs and built entirely in the UAE using high-quality materials and Emirati talent," said Abdullah, who founded the Bawabat Al Sharq Factory with the backing of Khalifa Fund.
She admitted that the starting the venture wasn't easy, adding that financing and technology access were among the major hurdles. With Khalifa Fund's support, however, Bawabat Al Sharq Factory was able to move forward. Now, the company seeks to "expand its exports, build technical partnerships, and showcase what 'Made in the UAE' truly means", Abdullah said. Through the solutions they create, they seek to help boost food security while supporting the UAE's vision for a knowledge-based industrial economy.

Alhammadi currently collaborates with factories to deliver her designs but she has big plans for the future.
"I aim to move into direct manufacturing-to gain more control, respond faster to market needs, and deepen my impact on local industry," she said.
Highlighting the crucial role Khalifa Fund played in the growth of her company, Alhammadi said: "They helped us join exhibitions at discounted rates and supported us with letters that secured fee
exemptions on government projects-boosting our market presence and competitiveness."
In the long run, Alhammadi aims to "create a fully integrated design and manufacturing business that honours Emirati identity - and reaches global markets".

Emirates boss says Boeing conveying 'cautious optimism', with 777X delivery expected by 2027

Emirates Airline 's president Tim Clark said that Boeing has struck a tone of 'cautious optimism' during its meetings with the US plane maker, with expectations that the long-delayed 777X will be delivered by early 2027. The Dubai-based airline could receive its first 777X wide-body between the third or fourth quarter of 2026 and the first quarter of 2027, and is getting 'clearer messages' from Boeing on that delivery programme, he said on the sidelines of the International Air Transport Association (Iata) annual meeting in New Delhi on Sunday. 'We've engaged with the senior management of Boeing recently and they seem cautiously optimistic,' Mr Clark told reporters in the Indian capital. Emirates is still awaiting delivery of the Boeing 777X after the US plane maker faced a series of delays on that programme since 2020. With ongoing delays in new aircraft deliveries, Emirates will now put 219 aircraft through a full cabin refresh at a total investment of $5 billion in its retrofit programme, according to its latest annual financial report. The airline has added the first Airbus A350-900 to its fleet but held off from ordering the larger A350-1000 variant as Mr Clark remains critical of Rolls-Royce's engine performance in the Gulf's harsh and hot climate conditions. Meanwhile, Emirates, a long-standing champion of the Airbus A380, will keep the double-decker in its fleet until the end of the next decade, Mr Clark said. This comes as it seeks to extend the lifespan of the aircraft with a lack of a clear alternative as the 777X is yet to be certified, while the A350-1000's engines are yet to prove their durability for the Gulf's operating conditions. Iata's 81st annual meeting of airline chiefs, with IndiGo as the host carrier, is taking place amid the turbulence of global trade tensions and difficulties around meeting the industry's goal of net-zero emissions by 2050.

Dubai real estate market stabilising; investors confident in long-term growth

The Dubai real estate market is entering a healthy 'stabilisation phase' and investors are confident in long-term projects, according to brokerage and developer Asico. Following a period of remarkable growth where residential property prices surged by approximately 60 per cent between 2022 and early 2025, driven by strong international investor interest, the market is now entering a phase of stabilisation in 2025, said Asico. This transition indicates a move towards a more balanced and sustainable trajectory. Dubai real estate stabilisation phase Several key indicators point towards this stabilisation: Price adjustments: As of January 2025, the average price per square foot stood at AED1,484 ($404), reflecting a slight 0.57 per cent month-on-month dip, indicating a cooling from the rapid escalation witnessed in previous years Shift in demand: While luxury properties continue to attract interest, there's a noticeable shift towards mid-market and affordable housing. In 2024, two out of five ready home sales were valued at less than AED1m ($272,000), highlighting a broader market appeal and a move towards more sustainable growth Supply dynamics: Developers are responding to the evolving market by accelerating construction schedules, aiming to bring handovers forward by three to six months. This proactive approach is designed to meet the current demand and prevent potential shortages, contributing to market equilibrium Wail Abualhamail, Director of Real Estate at Asico, said: 'The current phase of stabilisation reflects the natural progression of a maturing market. We are seeing a shift from speculative buying towards more strategic, long-term investments. At Asico, we believe this evolution is a healthy sign, indicating investor confidence, improved regulation, and a more sustainable future for Dubai's real estate sector.' Despite the stabilisation, Dubai's real estate market continues to exhibit robust performance. In February 2025, the market recorded a 32 per cent increase in transaction volume and a 37 per cent rise in value compared to the same period in 2024, totalling more than AED50bn ($13.6bn). The off-plan market remains a significant driver of this activity, with a 38 per cent increase in volume and a 60 per cent increase in value year-over-year. Key areas such as Dubai Creek Harbour, Mohammed Bin Rashid City, and Dubai Hills have been particularly popular for off-plan investments. The Dubai government's ongoing strategic initiatives are also playing a crucial role in bolstering the real estate sector. The Dubai Economic Agenda (D33), which aims to double the emirate's economy by 2033, specifically focuses on enhancing the contribution of the real estate sector. Furthermore, policies such as the Golden Visa programme and the provision for 100 per cent foreign ownership in certain sectors have further strengthened investor confidence in the market. Asico said: 'As the market enters this phase of stabilisation, investors are presented with opportunities to make informed decisions in a more predictable environment'. The increasing focus on mid-market properties opens avenues for a broader range of investments, while the sustained overall demand underscores the market's long-term strength. According to Asico, this stabilisation period signifies a maturing of Dubai's property sector, where factors such as quality, thoughtful planning, and strategic location are expected to be the primary drivers of long-term returns, moving away from reliance on short-term speculation.
