Chief Minister lays foundation for development projects in Erode district
A major highlight of the announcements was the establishment of a common effluent treatment plant (CETP) at the Perundurai SIPCOT Industrial Park, at an estimated cost of ₹136.76 crore. The project, to be executed by the Department of Industries, Investment Promotion, and Commerce, will use Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) technology and have a capacity to treat 2,000 kilolitres of effluents per day. The plant will be designed, built, operated, and maintained by a private contractor.
In the water resource sector, the Lower Bhavani Dam or the Bhavanisagar Dam located in Sathyamangalam taluk will be renovated and upgraded by the Water Resources Department at an estimated cost of ₹19.89 crore.
Other projects announced include, creation of rainwater harvesting and irrigation infrastructure in the Thalavadi Hills region, implemented by the Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare Department, at a cost of ₹1.77 crore and construction of two agricultural storage warehouses and six grain drying yards by the Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Department, with an estimated budget of ₹1.10 crore.
Officials said the projects aim to boost industrial sustainability, enhance water management, and support rural agricultural infrastructure.

Stalin requests Nirmala Sitharaman for funds for expansion of Colachel harbour, rural infrastructure
Tamil Nadu Finance Minister Thangam Thennarasu and DMK parliamentary party leader Kanimozhi Karunanidhi on Tuesday handed over a representation from Chief Minister M.K. Stalin to Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in New Delhi requesting to release funds for Colachel fishing harbour in Kanniyakumari district. In a social media post, M.K. Stalin expressed hope that the Union Minister would release funds for the project. Fishermen from Kanniyakumari district had earlier called on Mr. Stalin and requested for expansion of the Colachel fishing harbour. The TN government has sought allocation of ₹350 crore under the Fisheries Infrastructure Development Fund through the NABARD. The State government also requested funds to the tune of ₹4,500 crore under the Rural Infrastructure Development Fund through the NABARD. Mr. Thennarasu said that they requested Ms Sitharaman to release funds soon.

Stalin launches entrepreneurship programme to aid ex-servicemen
Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Tuesday launched the 'Mudhalvarin Kaakkum Karangal' scheme to help former servicemen take up entrepreneurship. Mr. Stalin launched the distribution of aid to 155 former servicemen, who would receive a total of ₹24.43 crore, including a 30% capital subsidy for their businesses. In the first phase of the scheme, a total of 348 beneficiaries would get ₹50.50 crore in aid, including a 30% capital subsidy and a 3% interest subsidy, which is expected to reduce the financial burden on former servicemen taking up entrepreneurship. All applications received under the programme would be scrutinised by a district-level task force committee before being recommended to banks. After a scrutiny by the banks, a provisional sanction would be granted. Those who obtain the provisional sanction would be provided training at the Entrepreneurship Development and Innovation Institute in Chennai. Loans would then be sanctioned for their proposals. Minister N. Kayalvizhi Selvaraj, Chief Secretary N. Muruganandam, and senior officials were present at the event.

Land acquisition: Thirumangalam water scheme delayed by five months
MADURAI: Trouble with land acquisition has allegedly delayed the Rs 52.54-crore water scheme project of the Thirumangalam Municipality by five months. Commenced on January 1 last year, the project was initially scheduled for completion in July 2025; now, officials from the Water Resources Department expect the project to be over by December this year. Sources said drinking water is being supplied to the 20,000-odd households in Thirumangalam Municipality through two schemes -- Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage (TWAD) Board's combined water scheme supplying 3.3 MLD from Cauvery river and local sources supplying 2.1 MLD from Vaigai river in Thiruvengadam. 'As we decided to develop our sources from the Vaigai river in Mullipallam, a special scheme was devised at a cost of Rs 52.54 crore, under the Kalaignar Urban Development Fund,' said an official from the Thirumangalam municipality. 'With Mullipallam just 25 kilometres away, the new project has the capacity to supply over 4.3 MLD, which will be plentiful for the next 10 years for the residents of the municipality. We are currently constructing five overhead tanks (OHTs) in the municipality.
