WHAT HAPPENED?
Fernandes lunged in from behind on Ndiaye near the halfway line in the lead-up to Everton's equaliser, sparking a heated exchange between the two. Ndiaye immediately confronted the Portuguese midfielder, and team-mates rushed in to separate the pair as tempers flared. Both players were shown yellow cards as tensions boiled over on the pitch. Fans reacted critically on social media towards the Red Devils captain's cynical kickout.
WHAT THE FANS ARE SAYING
@_luke1878_ wrote on X: "Bruno Fernandes has to be one of the most unlikeable players on earth."
@The92Bible added: "Bruno Fernandes intentionally trying to injure Iliman Ndiaye in a pre-season friendly is exactly why he isn't rated as much as he should be. Great player but terrible sportsman."
Man City fan @TheCityRamble added: "Bruno Fernandes just casually booting out at an opponent during a pre-season friendly."
Everton fan @ClarkeJoel22 wrote: "Bruno Fernandes is one of the biggest kn*bheads in football."
@Lea_EFC concluded: "BRUNO FERNANDES YOU F*CKING SH*THOUSE."
THE BIGGER PICTURE
The incident proved costly for United, who conceded a bizarre own goal moments after the scuffle. It overshadowed a solid display from Fernandes, who had scored earlier in the match to give the Red Devils the lead. United still managed to claim the Premier League Summer Series title following previous wins over Bournemouth and West Ham.
WHAT NEXT FOR MAN UTD?
Ruben Amorim's Red Devils return to action this weekend against Fiorentina at Old Trafford. They will then kick off their Premier League campaign at home to Arsenal the following Sunday. Fernandes' actions may draw further scrutiny in the build-up to those fixtures.

Former Arsenal footballer Thomas Partey to appear in court charged with rape
Former Arsenal footballer Thomas Partey is due to appear in court charged with raping two women. The midfielder faces five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault following alleged offences between 2021 and 2022, the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) said. The 32-year-old is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court on Tuesday. Partey's lawyer Jenny Wiltshire previously said he 'denies all the charges against him', adding he welcomed 'the opportunity to finally clear his name'. The Ghanaian international was charged four days after leaving the North London club when his contract expired at the end of June. Partey, of Hertfordshire, is accused of two counts of rape against one woman and three counts of rape against another. The sexual assault allegation relates to a third woman, according to the CPS. The Metropolitan Police said it first received reports of an allegation of rape in February 2022. Partey joined Arsenal from Atletico Madrid in 2020 in a transfer worth around £45 million. The defensive midfielder signed for the Spanish club in 2012 and made 188 appearances, as well as going out on loan to Mallorca and Leganes. He played 35 games for the north London club in the Premier League last season, scoring four goals. Partey has also made more than 50 appearances for Ghana – including at the World Cup and the Africa Cup of Nations. An Arsenal spokesperson previously said: 'The player's contract ended on June 30. Due to ongoing legal proceedings the club is unable to comment on the case.'

Hansi Flick praises transfer-linked Barcelona star
Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick on Monday made use of the opportunity to afford some praise to a transfer-linked member of his squad. The player in question? Héctor Fort. Defender Fort has of course seen his name continue to dominate the headlines in Catalunya's capital over recent days. This comes amid the understanding that the 19-year-old has been made available for transfer by the Camp Nou brass. Fort, nevertheless, was introduced off the bench en route to Barcelona's 5-0 friendly drubbing of FC Daegu earlier today, after also featuring against FC Seoul last week. Speaking to the media on the back of the full-time whistle at the Daegu Stadium, it therefore came as little surprise when the name of his young full-back was put to the aforementioned Hansi Flick. And the German tactician made use of the question to send some praise Fort's way, explaining: 'I'm pleased with what I saw from Héctor Fort. He trained well and played well the other day.'
