'Realistic' LAFC not as good as Chelsea
Los Angeles FC goalkeeper Hugo Lloris admits Chelsea are at a "different level" and that his side are the minnows of the group at the Club World Cup.
The former Tottenham captain, now 38, will face English opposition again at the tournament in the United States at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.

When asked about LAFC's prospects, after they won a play-off match against Mexican side Club America, he said: "We have nothing to lose, especially against an opponent like Chelsea. It will be hard, European clubs can do everything quicker.
"We come here with a lot of humility. We just take it game by game. I cannot hide that the standard of the other opponents are higher than ours. Especially Chelsea, then Flamengo and Tunis is a competitive club in Africa.
"Listen, we just want to come here to enjoy the competition, try to get the best result we can but we also have to be realistic, to compare an MLS game and a Club World Cup game is really hard."
The former World Cup-winning goalkeeper with France added it isn't just European clubs that have player workload concerns with the addition of another competition, adding: "To be honest with you, when I came to the MLS, I expected a rhythm of games less intense than in Europe but then you realise you travel a lot.

"Everywhere is the same, there are a lot of competitions and players have to adapt to the schedule.
"For us, as soon as we finish the tournament, we have to go back to a routine of the MLS games which is not easy either. I am not here to question the schedule. I am just here to tell you we are enjoying being here and to do our best."
Lloris also said the match has no special significance as a former Spurs player but that he still "follows the news" about the club, and saw that manager Ange Postecoglou was sacked despite winning the Europa League and was replaced by former Brentford boss Thomas Frank last week.
He added: "Nothing surprises me in football. But I don't know what happened inside the club so it really hard for me to judge. If they made this decision it is because they believe there is another option which is better for the future of the club.

"Thomas Frank did amazing job at Brentford. But Postecoglou deserves a lot of credit, the players as well, it is not easy to win that kind of competition
"What Ange Postecoglou did was just remarkable. He brought this Europa League trophy, he brought a lot of joy to the Spurs community, a lot of pride as well and we all have to be thankful for that."

Liam Delap's greatest strengths...and weaknesses!
After an impressive season leading the line at Ipswich Town last season, young striker Liam Delap signed for Chelsea for £30m last week with his new manager Enzo Maresca since billing him as a "future England number nine". In line for his debut tonight in the Blues' Club World Cup opener against Los Angeles FC, the 22-year-old forward hit 12 goals in 37 Premier League appearances last term for the relegated Tractor Boys and became one of the most exciting young strikers in the top flight. Advertisement Still a little raw, the former Man City academy graduate already combines physical presence with an eye for goal - but what do his 2024/25 stats reveal about the tools he will bring to Stamford Bridge, and any areas that may need refining? To answer that, here are three stats that showcase Delap's key strengths... and three that point to aspects where growth is still needed. Delap's strengths A threat on the break: Strong, deceptively pacy and direct in his running, Delap will offer his new club a potent threat in transition and a number of stats highlight his threat in this regard. Only Liverpool's Mo Salah (7) scored more goals on the counter-attack last season than the England youth international (4), who also ranked 18th in the top flight for successful dribbles last term, with 40. Advertisement He makes goalkeepers work: Ploughing a lone furrow at times for Ipswich last season was a tough ask of a young centre-forward, but Delap was not in the habit of wasting opportunities when they came his way. The son of former Rory Delap hit the target with 32 of his 68 shots last season in the Premier League to register a very respectable shot-on-target percentage of 47% and he actually finished the season having out-performed his expected goals of 11.7 xG by a fraction. Delap also had a 100% record from the penalty spot, netting the two spot-kicks that came his way. He can lead the line: As touched upon, the burden of scoring goals and providing attacking threat at Ipswich fell upon Delap and the exciting young forward showed that he could shoulder the responsibility. In fact, Delap scored exactly a third of the Tractor Boys' Premier League goals last term - only three players in the English top tier (Salah, Wood and Isak, all 34%) netting a higher percentage of their team's goals. Areas for development? Aerial threat: Although Delap did win 58 of the 134 aerial duels he contested in the Premier League last term, his heading ability is not his strength and it will not have escaped Chelsea's attention that their new signing did not score a single headed goal last term. Advertisement Making the ball stick: As you would expect given his time at Man City's academy under Maresca, Delap is blessed with a very good first touch - but this does not mean he can't develop his ability to keep hold of the ball high up the pitch. Obviously the level of service into forwards can skew stats somewhat, but Delap ranked third in the Premier League for unsuccessful touches (with 104) and fifth for the number of times he was dispossessed (60). The matchwinning gene: Given that Ipswich only won four games during the entire 2024/25 campaign, there was little chance for Delap to prove his ability to score the goals that really matter, the type that secure three valuable points. None of the dozen goals he hit last term were matchwinners, and it will be interesting to see if Delap can start showcasing his killer instincts and help fire Chelsea to victory in Atlanta tonight.

Bryan Mbeumo responds to transfer speculation after Man United transfer bid
Bryan Mbeumo has spoken publicly for the first time since Manchester United and Tottenham launched their battle for his signature. The 25-year-old appears to be on his way out of Brentford after an outstanding season in which he scored 20 goals for the west London club. Advertisement Manchester United have seen a first offer rejected, in the region of £45m with £10m in add-ons, and Spurs have stepped up their interest after hiring ex-Brentford boss Thomas Frank to replace the sacked Ange Postecoglou. Speaking to Sky Sports at the Canadian Grand Prix, Mbeumo said: 'It (transfer speculation) is a bit new for me I would say! I think it can be the life of a footballer and you need to accept it. 'It's been my best season so far in the Premier League. And even collectively, I think we did play very good games. I think we've been unlucky to chase the Europe spot, but I think it's been a fantastic season.' Bryan Mbeumo is the subject of much speculation this summer (PA) United are reported to be preparing a second bid and believe they have the edge over Spurs in the race to lure Mbeumo. But Spurs now have Frank in their corner – as well as Champions League football after beating United in the Europa League final – and Mbeumo lauded his former manager's talents. Advertisement 'He's done so much for me, he literally trusted me from the start. I think he developed the team so well. He developed me as a human and a player as well. So I can only wish him all the best, and I'm sure he's going to do well. 'I think he knows everything. He's really smart. He knows where he wants to bring the team, how he wants to play. I think he's been fantastic for Brentford. I think he's going to [need] some time to adapt, obviously: [Champions League] games, more expectations, but I'm sure he's going to do well. 'He knows how to talk to people. He knows how to build a group. And that's why we've been playing so well.'
