Kanwariya killed, another injured as bikes collide in UPs Hathras
The accident took place late Sunday on the stretch of road between Nagla Gopi and Rayak villages in the Mursan area of the district, they said.
Two motorcycles being ridden by kanwariyas collided on the Bareilly-Mathura-Jaipur Road, leading to the death of one and injuries to another.
Thirty-year-old Guddu died in the accident, while 24-year-old Kuldeep was injured. Both were part of a group of devotees from Chak Sehna village in Bharatpur district of Rajasthan, police said.
The group was returning with a 'Dak Kanwar' from Soron in Kasganj district around 8 pm on Sunday when the accident occurred, he said. PTI COR KIS RHL

The Maharashtra Police has arrested 15 people and registered FIRs against more than 500 individuals after an irate mob vandalised properties and indulged in arson in Yavat in Pune's Daund tehsil over an objectionable post on social media. Communal tension erupted in Yavat village in Daund tehsil of the city on Friday where several groups of persons vandalised and set ablaze properties over the objectionable content. A huge mob took to the streets to vent their ire and set ablaze a motorcycle and damaged a bakery even as the police lobbed teargas shells to bring the situation under control. Narayan Deshmukh, Yavat police station senior inspector, said 15 people have been arrested so far and remanded in police custody till August 6. Four of the cases are against more than 500 people who were allegedly involved in arson and damage to property. Of these, more than 100 people have been identified," an official from the Yavat police station told PTI. Police said that those involved in the incident targeted a motorcycle, two cars, one religious structure and a bakery. The police had to resort to tear gas shells and lathi-charge to disperse the mob after they indulged in arson. Meanwhile, prohibitory orders have been issued in Yavat and the situation is under control. 'Preliminary report says no planned conspiracy' Superintendent of Police (Pune Rural) Sandeep Singh Gill said the preliminary probe has not indicated to any planned conspiracy in the incident. He, however, said that no conclusions can be drawn until the inquiry is over. "Till Saturday afternoon, police have registered five FIRs in connection with the incident," Gill said, adding that the person whose objectionable post triggered the violence has resided in the village for years. The official also said the police responded quickly to the violence and brought the situation under control. "A large contingent of security personnel, including State Reserve Police Force (SRPF), has been deployed in the village. Authorities also imposed prohibitory orders under Bharatiya Nyaya Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) section 163 and Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) section 144 from Friday night. They will remain in place till the situation is assessed further," Gill was quoted as saying by PTI. Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar also visited the site on Friday and said the youth who allegedly uploaded the objectionable Whatsapp post hails from Nanded and is a daily wage labourer. He put out an objectionable post related to an incident that took place in Madhya Pradesh, which angered the locals and they resorted to vandalism, Pawar said.

The trio was apprehended in mid-July following complaints of forced religious conversions among tribal communities in Chhattisgarh's Bastar region. The case, filed under sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), prompted outrage from Christian organisations and human rights activists, who argued that the arrests were baseless and politically motivated. Critics claimed that certain factions were exploiting controversial anti-conversion laws to target missionaries and tribal individuals. After reviewing the evidence and arguments, the NIA court found grounds to grant conditional bail. Allahabad HC directs GDA to maintain status quo on demolition notice
Prayagraj(UP), Aug 2 (PTI) The Allahabad High Court has directed that status quo be maintained with regards to the demolition notices issued by Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA) over alleged illegal properties built on public land. Hearing a writ petition, a division bench comprising Justice Mahesh Chandra Tripathi and Justice Prashant Kumar granted time to the district administration and GDA to place on record how they intend to rehabilitate the old inhabitants of the properties. The court also restrained the petitioners from creating any third-party interests or undertaking any development on the disputed property. The court also observed, 'In the facts and circumstances of the case, we also find that it is not in dispute that the petitioners have been occupying the place for the last 40-50 years." 'At this stage, we find that some indulgence and reprieve is to be accorded to the inhabitants who belong to the weaker sections of society and we further direct the authorities to ensure the formulation and implementation of a rehabilitation scheme for such persons," it said. The bench said the rehabilitation scheme shall be provided by the district administration and the GDA in the next hearing. The next hearing is listed for August 22. The petitioners filed the present writ petition for quashing the demolition notice dated June 16, 2025, issued by the GDA under section 26-A of the UP Urban Planning and Development Act, 1973. The GDA initially issued notice to 172 illegal occupants of public land on September 6, 2024, which is earmarked in the master plan. Consequently, 89 persons filed their objections which were considered and the impugned order (order under challenge) was passed. During the course of hearing, the counsel for the petitioner submitted that the petitioners are old inhabitants and in absence of any rehabilitation scheme as per the law, the old inhabitants, who are occupying small pieces of land for their shelter and admittedly belong to the lower sections of society, will suffer irreparable loss, if uprooted. After hearing both sides, the court in its order dated July 31 passed the above directives and observed, 'It is informed that in response to the earlier court's order, till date the GDA has not taken any remedial measures to rehabilitate the persons who were in illegal occupation for the last 40 years."
