Gold And Oil Scam Cons Victims Out Of BD97,000
A retired lawyer and several workers were tricked into handing over more than BD97,000 after falling for a fake investment scheme involving gold and oil, run by a gang operating from behind mobile phones and encrypted apps.
The scam unravelled when one of the accused was lured into a trap and arrested while turning up to collect BD15,000.
Police say the incident was part of a wider fraud that targeted five people, some of whom transferred funds online, others who gave the money in person.
Bahrain's top court upheld a seven-year prison sentence for an Arab man involved in the operation.
He was also fined BD10,000 and will be deported after serving his time.
The judges were told he had worked with others to extract the funds through deception and digital sleight of hand.
One victim, a pharmacist, said she received a phone call last May offering what appeared to be a solid investment opportunity.
She willingly transferred BD20,000.

A woman sentenced to death for the murder of her husband in Ras Al Khaimah has been pardoned by her children, leading to a reduction in her sentence and early release from prison. She carried out the crime with the help of her lover, H.M., and his driver, a Pakistani national. According to case records, R.A., who worked as an administrative employee at a school, began an extramarital relationship with H.M. Despite both being married, they plotted to kill her husband to begin a new life together. She initially administered excessive doses of insulin to her husband, hoping to gradually end his life without raising suspicion. When this failed, she added an anesthetic to the injection, causing him to lose consciousness. Believing he had died, she called her lover to assist in disposing of the body. Upon arrival, H.M. realised the man was still alive and proceeded to strangle him. He then offered his driver Dh10,000 to help transport the body. The victim was driven to a mountainous area, where his hands were tied before being thrown into a valley. His body was later discovered by a shepherd. Police investigations led to the arrest of all three individuals, who confessed to the crime during questioning. All were charged with murder and initially received death sentences. However, the woman's sentence was later commuted to life imprisonment after her children — the legal heirs of the victim — issued a formal pardon under UAE law. She was released after serving one year in prison. The death sentences for H.M. and the driver remain in place.

The conference marks a pivotal moment in Bahrain's legal and humanitarian reform journey, showcasing the Kingdom's commitment to justice that is balanced with compassion and social responsibility. Not a Reward, but a Responsibility Clarifying a common misconception, the Interior Minister stressed that alternative sanctions are not intended as leniency for dangerous offenders. 'They are not granted to those who pose a threat to public safety or social peace,' he said. 'Rather, they are designed for individuals who have recognised their mistakes, taken responsibility, and committed to reintegrating into society.' He described the programme as a humanitarian initiative that strengthens national trust, reunites families, and enhances a legal culture rooted in accountability and reform. Centre of Excellence In a significant announcement, the Minister revealed plans to establish the Centre of Excellence for Alternative Sanctions and Open Prisons, a regional hub that will train and qualify professionals involved in implementing alternative sentencing. 'This centre will help advance the system further and share Bahrain's successful model with neighbouring countries,' he stated. He added that the initiative reflects the Kingdom's growing influence in regional justice reform and will serve as a beacon for other nations looking to modernise their penal systems. Since its inception, Bahrain's alternative sentencing and open prison programme has earned recognition on the local, regional, and international levels. Developed in partnership with the Public Prosecution, the programme is rooted in the principle that while justice must be served, it should also provide avenues for redemption and rehabilitation. 'Every person, despite their setbacks in life, deserves a chance to correct their behaviour,' the Minister affirmed.

The Hajj Security Forces have arrested three Saudi citizens for transporting 108 expatriates holding visit visas into Makkah to perform Hajj without a permit, in violation of the Hajj regulations. The citizens tried to smuggle the violators by using concealed compartments within heavy vehicles. They were referred to the relevant authorities to implement legal penalties against them. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Interior has penalized 17 people for the violation of Hajj regulations. The Hajj Security Forces arrested 11 citizens and six residents at the entry points to Makkah while transporting 54 individuals without Hajj permits. The ministry has issued administrative rulings against all parties involved: the transporters, their accomplices, and those who were provided with transportation. Penalties against them included imprisonment, fines of up to SR100,000, and public disclosure of the violators' identities. Residents involved face deportation and a 10-year ban from reentering the Kingdom after serving their sentence. Judicial requests have been made to confiscate vehicles used in these violations, and individuals attempting to perform Hajj without a permit face a fine of up to SR20,000. The ministry urged all citizens and residents to strictly adhere to Hajj regulations, emphasizing that compliance is essential to ensure the safety and security of pilgrims as they perform their rituals.
