DRM hoists national flag in Madurai

Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Om Prakash Meena hoisted the national flag on the occasion of 79th Independence Day on Friday.
Raillway Protection Force (RPF) personnel and Railway School students, Scouts and Guides presented a guard of honour.
Speaking on the occasion, the DRM said that Madurai Railway Division has achieved 9.1% growth in the total revenue till July in the financial year 2025-26 in comparison to the corresponding period in the previous year. While the revenue in the current year is ₹451.76 crore, it was ₹414.05 crore last year.
This revenue comprises ₹289.88 crore from passenger earnings, ₹129.82 crore from freight, ₹19.91 crore from other coaching, and ₹12.15 crore from sundries, with 16.63 million (166.3 Lakh) passengers transported during the period.
After operating 10,170 Mail and Express trains, the division has achieved punctuality of 97.97%. The division has also operated 6,931 unreserved passenger and Train-on-Demand services.
The DRM said that the speed of goods trains in the current financial year, including stabling and yarding, currently stood at 37.37 kmph, which is the highest among all divisions in Indian Railways.
For the second consecutive year, the division has crossed the 3 million tonnes mark in 2024–25, recording a total loading of 3.01 MT. The division also exceeded loading target of 1.025 tonnes, achieving 1.0854 tonnes, marking a growth of 5.93%.
The division has done Complete Track Renewal over 29.88 km and deep screening of 77.20 km of plain track. Deep screening of 20 points and crossings, and carrying out Ultrasonic Flaw Detection testing of rails and welds across 1,337 km of track, Mr. Om Prakash said.
On the safety front, interlocking of eight more level crossing gates have been done in 2025. With this, 319 LC gates have been interlocked and 25 gates have been equipped with electrically operated lifting barriers and emergency sliding booms, ensuring quick and effortless operation during both routine and emergency situations, the DRM said.
Redevelopment of Madurai Junction and Rameswaram stations is in progress at a cost of ₹347.47 crore and ₹90.20 crore respectively .
Further Tirunelveli Junction would be redeveloped at a cost of ₹92.8 crore.
Additional Divisional Railway Manager Shri L.N. Rao and Chief Project Manager, Gati Sakthi Unit, K. Harikumar were present.

NU_IQ has been designed with cabin space in mind. The space between front and rear passengers stands at 830 mm, while second-row legroom measures 937 mm. Shoulder room for rear occupants is 1404 mm, and boot space is rated at 450 litres up to the seatback and 644 litres up to the roof. The flat floor ensures rear-seat passengers enjoy more comfort, while the large boot makes it versatile for everyday use and long trips. HYDERABAD: South Central Railway (SCR) celebrated India's 79th Independence Day with a strong performance report, safety milestones, and ambitious infrastructure projects. Speaking on the occasion, SCR General Manager Sanjay Kumar Srivastava stated that safety remained a top priority, with zero consequential accidents reported this year. 'From April to July, SCR achieved a record gross originating revenue of Rs 6,960 crore, surpassing last year's Rs 6,894 crore for the same period. Freight loading touched an all-time high of 49 million tonnes, with freight revenue of Rs 4,601 crore and passenger revenue of Rs 1,990 crore from 96 million travellers,' he added. Stating that the Zone completed 283 km of track renewals, increased speeds to 130 kmph on 364 km, and removed 19 permanent speed restrictions, the GM said that the installation of the indigenous Kavach train protection system has been sanctioned for over 70% of the network, with major signalling and level-crossing safety upgrades underway.
