ICE agents denied access to Dodgers parking lot as team is expected to announce immigrant aid
Federal agents were turned away from Los Angeles Dodgers stadium grounds Thursday, according to the Los Angeles Times.
The Dodgers released a statement Thursday confirming the situation, and saying that Thursday's game against the San Diego Padres will go on as scheduled.
Images circulated of Department of Homeland Security vehicles around the stadium Thursday morning. It was unclear what — if any — operation masked agents were carrying out in the area. Agents did not reveal why they were near the stadium when asked by the Los Angeles Times.

Sources told the Los Angeles Times that the agents attempted to enter the team parking lot, but were denied entry by the team. The parking lot is not technically owned by the team, but is considered team property. Former Dodgers owner Frank McCourt still owns the team parking lot. He sold the franchise to Guggenheim Baseball Management in 2012.
Protestors gathered near Dodger Stadium after seeing images of Department of Homeland Security vehicles near the park. Los Angeles police were reportedly called in by the team to tell protestors to leave. A video that circulated on Bluesky featured a Los Angeles police officer who told protestors, "[DHS officers] can't be here. They are leaving too. [The Dodgers] are kicking [DHS agents] out, they are kicking you out."
The incident comes less than 24 hours after a Dodgers spokesperson said team would announce plans to assist local immigrant communities in Los Angeles. The team is expected to make that announcement Thursday.
The team has faced pressure from fans to issue a statement after U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) have engaged in raids around the city. Numerous protests have been held in Los Angeles in opposition of ICE's presence in the city.

While the Dodgers resisted making any statement initially, the team found itself in an awkward spot after video emerged of a team employee telling national-anthem performer Nezza that the team wanted her to perform the anthem in English. Nezza sang the song in Spanish in protest of the ICE raids in the city.
At least two members of the Dodgers have issued statements about the raids. Utility man Enrique Hernandez and broadcaster — and former player Adrián González — both spoke out against ICE's presence in Los Angeles, with González calling the raids "illegal" and "unconstitutional."

DHS returns anti-terrorism funds held back from big cities
Major cities are again receiving counter-terrorism funding and reimbursement for security at major events that had been withheld by the Trump administration to punish local governments run by Democrats. The Department of Homeland Security has restored payments to Chicago, Seattle and San Francisco and other cities that had sued DHS to restore the funding, officials said. 'Citizens all over the country will benefit as a consequence of that initial filing because those releases are now beginning to trickle out,' Mary Richardson-Lowry, Chicago's corporation counsel, said Thursday. The restoration of the funds from the Securing the Cities program comes as communities around the country increase security as a precaution following the U.S. strike on Iran's nuclear facilities. Chicago had filed a lawsuit against the Trump administration in May, claiming the funds that Congress had allotted for the city were being illegally withheld by DHS. San Francisco, Seattle, Denver and Boston joined in the lawsuit when their funds were also cut. Richardson-Lowry's office said Seattle and San Francisco have begun receiving their funding and Boston's payment is in process. The mayor's office in Denver did not immediately respond to a request for comment. The Securing the Cities program was created to help prepare for the possibility of nuclear or terrorist attacks. It began as a pilot program in the New York City region in 2006 and expanded over time to 13 cities. In 2018, the program was formally authorized by Congress. The money is used to fund security measures and training, including for large-scale events such as Lollapalooza, which each summer draws about 400,000 people to Chicago's downtown. Chicago was awaiting reimbursement of about $1.2 million for expenses that included the purchase of equipment to detect a nuclear event. 'We need that equipment to ensure our citizens have every opportunity to be safe in this current environment,' said Richardson-Lowry. DHS did not immediately return a request for comment about the funding. Earlier this week, the agency issued a warning of a 'heightened threat environment' across the country after U.S. strikes on Iranian nuclear sites.

Now, the NFL has announced Tucker's punishment. According to league insider Adam Schefter, Tucker, 35, is suspended without pay for the first 10 weeks of the 2025 season for violating the NFL's personal conduct policy. "The allegations against me in The Baltimore Banner article about me are unequivocally false. Throughout my career as a professional athlete, I have always sought to conduct myself with the utmost professionalism," said Tucker. "I have never before been accused of misconduct of any kind, and I have never been accused of acting inappropriately in front of a massage therapist or during a massage therapy session or during other bodywork. I have never received any complaints from a massage therapist, have never been dismissed from a massage therapy or bodywork session, and have never been told that I was not welcome at any spa or other place of business." These accusations have cast a dark cloud over Tucker's otherwise stellar career. Tucker - maybe the best kicker of his generation - is coming off the worst year of his career. He made a disastrous 73.3 percent of his field goal attempts (especially compared to his all-time best career average of 89.1 percent). He also missed more field goals between 40 and 49 yards than he had in any other season.
