Why Texas Tech, Texas will win 2025 WCWS
It's a Lone Star State Women's College World Series this year, and reporter Jenni Carlson breaks down one reason Texas Tech will win and one reason Texas will win the WCWS.
In her last go-around at the Women's College World Series, Mia Scott put on a show for Texas softball.
And she may very well hit the game-winning home run amid Texas' run to its first national championship.

With the bases loaded and no outs in the bottom of the fourth inning, Scott unleashed a fastball to straight away centerfield for a grand slam to extend the Longhorns' lead to 10-0 over No. 12 Texas Tech at Devon Park in Oklahoma City.

It is the first grand slam at the Women's College World Series in 15 years, according to the ESPN broadcast.
Scott's home run off of Chloe Riassetto was her fifth career home run at the WCWS. It also unlocked a potential run-ahead victory for Texas in the fourth inning, meaning the Longhorns can put an end to the game after Texas Tech's turn at the plate in the fifth inning, as the Longhorns entered the frame ahead by at least eight runs.
A win for the Longhorns at Devon Park would send Mike White's program to the mountaintop of the college softball world for the first time in program history.

Dallas Cowboys open practice to fans, who remain hopeful for a Super Bowl championship
The cellphone temperature read 98 degrees as Dallas Cowboys fans stood in line, which stretched from the Ford Center to the street. Jerseys, sequin shirts and the unforgiving Texas heat did not deter fans at all. When the doors opened, fans wanted a glimpse of the hottest ticket in town: the Dallas Cowboys. Joy, who did not give CBS News Texas her last name, said she bleeds blue. "I think the Dallas Cowboys is going all the way. Super Bowl. Undefeated champs. Yes," she said. Joy isn't the only fan who came to open practice with hope. Luke McPherson brought his infant son, Luka, with the same faith. "I'm a realist and a Cowboys fan, so Super Bowl or bust," McPherson said. "So, most likely a Super Bowl win this year." Ken Barrett brought his Godson, Mason Kimbrough, to the open practice. He said the 11-year-old got injured during a fireworks accident at a league football practice. "He's a young kid. He loves playing football, and that's the first thing he asked when he had the injury is would he be able to play again?" Barrett said. Kimbrough said he was in good spirits as he continues to recover from the accident. He explained what happened. "The fireworks, when it exploded, it had had took out my eye, so I couldn't see it. And then it just went off in my hand," Kimbrough said. Doctors told him he would play football again. Kimbrough is thankful he can still see his Dallas Cowboys. His Godfather thought the open practice would be a great outing and wonderful therapy. Now, he and other fans are waiting on the Jerry Jones-Micah Parsons impasse to end. "As a matter of fact, we're gonna [sic] send a memo out for tomorrow's practice for everyone to wear their Micah Parsons jerseys," Barrett said.

The Royals' Bobby Witt Jr. hits 100th homer, joining some select company in MLB history
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Bobby Witt Jr. knew the ball was gone the moment it left his bat. Only later did the young Kansas City Royals star realize what kind of company it allowed him to join. The two-run shot in the eighth inning against Texas on Tuesday night merely padded the lead for Kansas City, which went on to a 5-2 victory. It was the fifth straight win for the Royals, who closed to within 2 1/2 games of an AL wild-card berth. But it also was the 100th career homer for Witt, making him the youngest in franchise history to reach that mark. He made it at the age of 26 years, 66 days, or more than a year earlier than Carlos Beltran when he accomplished it during the 2003 season. 'I want him up there every inning,' Royals manager Matt Quatraro said. "I mean, you look at the lineup and you're trying to figure out, 'How many times can we get to the plate? How many guys can we keep on base for him when he does come to the plate?' 'I mean, that's an immense amount of pressure on a younger player to understand that's how everybody feels about him," Quatraro said. "But he has the physical ability, the makeup and the mental capacity to handle it.' The latest no-doubt shot, which came off Texas reliever Cole Winn and landed an estimated 449 feet to dead center field, made Witt only the fourth player with at least 100 homers and 100 stolen bases through his first four big league seasons. The others are Julio Rodríguez, Darryl Strawberry and Bobby Bonds — some pretty select company. Witt also become one of six shortstops in the last 95 years to hit at least 100 homers through his age-25 seasons. That list of luminaries includes Alex Rodriguez, Cal Ripken Jr., Francisco Lindor, Carlos Correa and Hanley Ramirez; of those players, only Rodriguez and Ramirez also had 100 steals by the time they were 25 years old. 'It was special,' Witt admitted, 'just seeing the kind of names on the list or whatever they showed. But now, it's just kind of on to the next. It was special. We enjoy it. And now it's just onto the next game.' They keep getting more important for the Royals, who have won five straight and seven of their last eight. They head into the third-game of their four-game set against the Rangers on Wednesday night with a chance to inch closer to a wild-card spot, and they proved last year that they could do some postseason damage if they can only get in. Witt continues to be the catalyst of their second-half surge, too. He's hitting .291 with 18 homers and 69 RBIs. 'It's special when he goes out there,' said the Royals' Seth Lugo, who allowed just two runs on three hits while pitching into the seventh inning Tuesday night. 'I've been saying it for two years: He goes about his business the same way. He doesn't get up or down on himself. He's a master of consistency. That's what he does.' Witt also happens to be a slick fielder with a Gold Glove in his trophy case. But at the plate is where Witt has become a bona fide star. He led the majors with a .332 average last year, when he hit 32 home runs, stole 31 bases and finished with 109 RBIs. And while he may not quite replicate the average, homer total or RBI numbers in this campaign, he already has 32 stolen bases while getting caught just seven times. 'There's not too many guys that get to 100 (homers),' said Vinnie Pasquantino, who also homered Tuesday night. "And the fourth player in MLB history with 100 stolen bases? It's not a list I'll ever be on. I mean, it's kind of unbelievable. 'He's one of the best players in the league for a reason," Pasquantino said. 'A superstar.'

No. 1 Texas, No. 2 Penn St each place 3 players on Associated Press preseason All-America first team
Texas and Penn State, the top two teams in The Associated Press preseason Top 25, each had three players selected for the preseason AP All-America team announced Monday. No. 1 Texas had one player from each level of its defense on the first team: edge rusher Colin Simmons, linebacker Anthony Hill Jr. and safety Michael Taaffe. No. 2 Penn State's picks were running back Nicholas Singleton, offensive lineman Olaivavega Ioane and defensive lineman Zane Durant. No. 3 Ohio State, No. 4 Clemson, No. 6 Notre Dame, No. 8 Alabama and Pittsburgh each had two players on the first team. The Southeastern Conference had 12 players on the 27-man first team determined by media members on the AP Top 25 voting panel. The Big Ten had seven players, the ACC four and the Big 12 two. Clemson's Cade Klubnik was the overwhelming preseason choice for first-team quarterback after throwing for 3,639 yards with 39 touchdowns and just six interceptions. Ohio State safety Caleb Downs and Florida center Jake Slaughter are returning first-team AP All-Americans. Slaughter, a leading candidate for the Rimington Trophy as the nation's top center, played 800 snaps in his breakout season for the Gators. He allowed just one sack and was among the highest-rated run and pass blockers in the country, according to Pro Football Focus. The AP All-America team for this season will be released in December.
