Morning News Recap: Three arrested following disruption at Jacksonville City Hall
The Wednesday edition of Jacksonville's Morning News is following the arrest of three people following commotion at the Jacksonville City Council meeting last night.
First Alert Weather headline: Heat and humidity with a few afternoon storms. Chief Meteorologist Mike Buresh says we're nearing an all-time May record for the number of days at/above 90 degrees. An isolated shower/storm will likely develop between 3 and 5 pm. Highs will stay in the lower to mid 90s tomorrow. The weekend is looking mainly dry with highs in the mid to upper 80s and lower humidity.

A drive-thru argument spills over into gunfire at a Deerwood Dunkin Donuts. Jacksonville police say a woman was shot multiple times around 5:30 pm yesterday as she was walking away from a car in the drive-thru. Police say the suspect fired two times, hitting the woman in the shoulder and back of the head, before fleeing. The vehicle was later stopped on the northside and the suspect was taken into custody.
Jacksonville International Airport's hourly garage is considered a crime scene, as federal investigators look into what started a fire nearly two weeks ago. Once the cause of the fire is determined, construction crews will begin to work their way through the third and fourth floors, assess the damage, and decide how the structure can be repaired.
A local family is grieving after their loved one was killed in a hit and run at the Walgreens on Merrill Road. It's a story we followed throughout the morning yesterday. Family members identify the victim as 40-year-old Brandon Venegas. No suspect or vehicle description was provided by police.

Conservative critics were also unhappy with Ono for his support of DEI programs in previous roles. Three Big Things to Know: Florida Senate restores advanced class funding: Many local school districts were worried about a proposal to cut school bonus funding by 50% for students that pass accelerated courses like AP, IB and AICE. But Tuesday, the Florida Senate's latest proposal got rid of that, fully restoring the funding. The new plan says those dollars will be split, with districts permitted to spend 20 percent on discretionary spending, while 80 percent will go into a new fund reserved for bonuses and other incentives. Outsiders: Three finalists for the Downtown Investment Authority CEO job will be in Jacksonville on Monday for interviews. Danny Chavez, former Chief Economic Development Officer in Waco, Texas. Lara Frittz, Division Director of the Frederick County, Maryland, Department of Economic Opportunity. Colin Tarbert, formerly the President and CEO of the Baltimore Development Corp. Elon Musk has blasted President Trump's 'big, beautiful bill' of tax breaks and spending cuts as a 'disgusting abomination.' The tech billionaire's comments test his own influence over the Trump-led Republican Party. Musk targeted Trump's top congressional priority just days after the president gave him a celebratory Oval Office sendoff marking the end of Musk's role leading the Department of Government Efficiency.

First Alert Weather: A wet couple of days ahead for the Jacksonville area
The rain and storms caused a mess Tuesday afternoon, with a tree falling on Interstate 95 in St. Johns County. WATCH THE FORECAST | DOWNLOAD THE APPS Here's what the First Alert Weather Team said we can expect the rest of the week: Scattered heavy showers and storms into early Tuesday night across Northeast Florida, then scattered lingering showers overnight thanks to high humidity and a steady wind out of the SE off the Atlantic. Southeast Georgia will begin Tuesday evening mostly dry, but showers and a few storms will increase overnight. Wednesday and Thursday will be mostly cloudy and muggy with on-and-off showers, a few storms. Tropical downpours will result in some locally heavy rainfall and will help keep temperatures lower, 80-85 degrees. Friday turns drier with more sun and temperatures getting back to 90+ degrees with only an isolated shower or storm. INTERACTIVE RADAR: Keep track of the rain as it moves through your neighborhood TROPICS: (1) An area of weak low pressure will develop the next couple days northeast of Jacksonville & near the coast of the Carolinas. While this area has been highlighted in yellow by the NHC for a low risk of development, there will be few if any direct impacts to Jax/Northeast Florida/Southeast Georgia. Tropical moisture will bring showers and storms to the local area Wednesday and Thursday with or without any low pressure actually developing. Two rounds of strong to severe storms to hit North Texas, with threat of large hail and damaging winds

It's First Alert Weather Day as the team tracks the potential for two rounds of strong to severe storms. The first round develops ahead of a dryline with isolated storms in the Northwest areas starting around 3 p.m. and moving into the Metroplex closer to 6 p.m. - 9 p.m. The hail threat will be highest with these initial discrete cells, but not everyone will be impacted by the first round. While the tornado threat is low, it is not zero. The severity and coverage of the first round of storms will impact the second round. Right now, the second round is expected to arrive late Tuesday night ahead of a cold front with mainly a damaging wind threat, but some hail is also possible. This round will be more widespread and impact most of North Texas. The most likely window in the Metroplex is around 9 p.m. - 3 a.m. Localized flooding is also a concern, especially in areas that received heavy rain over the weekend. Storms will weaken as they move east towards daybreak on Wednesday. The front stalls east of I-35 and will continue scattered shower chances during the day from DFW east. These are not expected to be severe. Before the storms on Tuesday night, it will be warm and muggy with highs in the upper 80s, but it will feel like the 90s due to the humidity. Wednesday will be a cooler day behind the front with highs in the lower 80s. The First Alert Weather Team will be watching for a complex of storms to ride along the Red River early Thursday morning, then clearing out for a warm afternoon.
