Middle East05-06-2025
CAIRO, June 5 (MENA) - Vice Admiral Ashraf Atwa, Commander of the Navy and Chairman of the Marine Industries and Services Organization (MAISO) has witnessed the handover of "Ras El Hikma" tug of the Azimuth type "RAstar 3200 ASD" — the first of three tugs being built for the Egyptian Navy.
The tug was built at the Alexandria Shipyard in cooperation with the French classification society BV, under a contract agreement between the Navy and the Alexandria Shipyard Company.
This comes in light of the political leadership's directives for localizing national industries and the Armed Forces General Command's commitment to continuously developing military capabilities and equipment. (MENA)

White House Launches TikTok Account

Israa Farhan The White House has officially launched its account on TikTok, even as the Chinese-owned platform faces the threat of a nationwide ban in the United States. In its first post on Tuesday, the White House shared a 27-second video featuring clips of Donald Trump alongside the caption 'America is back! What's new, TikTok?'. The profile description reads: 'Welcome to the golden age of America.' Within just three hours, the official account had already gained more than 25,000 followers. Trump's personal TikTok account remains one of the largest on the platform, with over 110 million followers, even though he has not posted since 5 November 2024, the day of the presidential election that returned him to power. TikTok, owned by Chinese tech giant ByteDance, has been at the center of a political storm in Washington. Under legislation passed by Congress in 2024, the app faces a ban in the US unless ByteDance relinquishes control. Lawmakers from both parties have expressed concern that the Chinese government could exploit user data or manipulate public opinion through the app. Although Trump has repeatedly extended the deadline for ByteDance to sell TikTok, he has admitted to having what he called 'a soft spot' for the platform. The current deadline for a sale is set for 17 September. The White House already maintains a strong presence across social media, with 2.4 million followers on X (formerly Twitter) and 9.3 million on Instagram. Trump himself has 108.5 million followers on X, though he primarily uses his platform, Truth Social, where he is followed by 10.6 million users. read more Gold prices rise, 21 Karat at EGP 3685 NATO's Role in Israeli-Palestinian Conflict US Expresses 'Strong Opposition' to New Turkish Military Operation in Syria Shoukry Meets Director-General of FAO Lavrov: confrontation bet. nuclear powers must be avoided News Iran Summons French Ambassador over Foreign Minister Remarks News Aboul Gheit Condemns Israeli Escalation in West Bank News Greek PM: Athens Plays Key Role in Improving Energy Security in Region News One Person Injured in Explosion at Ukrainian Embassy in Madrid Videos & Features Story behind Trending Jessica Radcliffe Death Video News Israeli-Linked Hadassah Clinic in Moscow Treats Wounded Iranian IRGC Fighters Arts & Culture "Jurassic World Rebirth" Gets Streaming Date News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier News Ayat Khaddoura's Final Video Captures Bombardment of Beit Lahia Business Egyptian Pound Undervalued by 30%, Says Goldman Sachs Videos & Features Tragedy Overshadows MC Alger Championship Celebration: One Fan Dead, 11 Injured After Stadium Fall Arts & Culture South Korean Actress Kang Seo-ha Dies at 31 after Cancer Battle Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt News The Jessica Radcliffe Orca Attack? 100% Fake and AI-Generated

Musk Drops Plans to Launch New Political Party

Israa Farhan Elon Musk is quietly abandoning his plans to launch a new political party in the United States, according to a report by the Wall Street Journal citing people familiar with the matter. The billionaire entrepreneur has told allies he intends to focus on his companies rather than pursuing political ambitions. Musk first announced the creation of the so-called 'America Party' in July, following a public clash with President Donald Trump over a tax and spending bill. However, the world's richest man is now said to be prioritizing his business empire while maintaining close ties with Vice President J.D. Vance. Sources told the newspaper that Musk admitted forming a political party could damage his relationship with Vance. Musk and his advisers have even suggested to people close to Vance that the Tesla and SpaceX chief might use part of his vast resources to back the vice president should he launch a presidential bid in 2028. Reuters has not yet been able to independently verify the report. Tesla and the White House declined to comment outside official working hours. Vance, who earlier this year called for calm after Musk's public row with Trump, reiterated his position this month and urged Musk to return to the Republican fold. Musk has also issued a warning to investors that Tesla could face a difficult period in the coming financial quarters, particularly as Trump's administration phases out federal support for electric vehicles. read more Gold prices rise, 21 Karat at EGP 3685 NATO's Role in Israeli-Palestinian Conflict US Expresses 'Strong Opposition' to New Turkish Military Operation in Syria Shoukry Meets Director-General of FAO Lavrov: confrontation bet. nuclear powers must be avoided News Iran Summons French Ambassador over Foreign Minister Remarks News Aboul Gheit Condemns Israeli Escalation in West Bank News Greek PM: Athens Plays Key Role in Improving Energy Security in Region News One Person Injured in Explosion at Ukrainian Embassy in Madrid Videos & Features Story behind Trending Jessica Radcliffe Death Video News Israeli-Linked Hadassah Clinic in Moscow Treats Wounded Iranian IRGC Fighters Arts & Culture "Jurassic World Rebirth" Gets Streaming Date News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier News Ayat Khaddoura's Final Video Captures Bombardment of Beit Lahia Business Egyptian Pound Undervalued by 30%, Says Goldman Sachs Videos & Features Tragedy Overshadows MC Alger Championship Celebration: One Fan Dead, 11 Injured After Stadium Fall Arts & Culture South Korean Actress Kang Seo-ha Dies at 31 after Cancer Battle Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt News The Jessica Radcliffe Orca Attack? 100% Fake and AI-Generated

UNDP Egypt Welcomes Chitose Noguchi as New Resident Representative

Ahmed Emam The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has announced the appointment of Ms. Chitose Noguchi as its new Resident Representative in Egypt, effective August 17, 2025. Noguchi officially assumed her post after presenting her credentials to Egypt's Ministry of Foreign Affairs. She succeeds Mr. Alessandro Fracassetti, who led UNDP Egypt for the past four years. The organization expressed its gratitude to Fracassetti for his leadership and contributions to advancing Egypt's inclusive and sustainable development agenda. Bringing more than 25 years of experience in international development and crisis response, Noguchi most recently served as Acting Special Representative and Deputy Special Representative with UNDP's Programme of Assistance to the Palestinian People (PAPP), where she headed the Gaza Sub-office. Her work has focused on emergency response, resilience building, governance, climate resilience, and sustainable resource management in some of the world's most challenging contexts. 'I am honoured to assume this role in Egypt and to build on the achievements of recent years,' Noguchi said upon her arrival in Cairo. 'My priority is to deliver concrete results that strengthen resilience and expand opportunities, in close partnership with the Government of Egypt, national and international partners.' Noguchi has also held senior leadership roles at UNDP Headquarters in New York, including as Global Programme Manager in the Bureau for Policy and Programme Support. In that capacity, she co-led the establishment of the UN Joint SDG Fund and oversaw global initiatives on institutional capacity development, quality assurance, and results-based management. Her career began with CARE International, where she served in various leadership positions, including Deputy Country Director in Vietnam and National Director of CARE Japan. She holds a bachelor's degree in law from the University of Tokyo and a master's degree in international development from George Washington University. Her appointment comes at a crucial time, as UNDP continues to support Egypt's Vision 2030 and the Sustainable Development Goals, with a focus on climate action, economic growth, job creation, and social protection. read more Gold prices rise, 21 Karat at EGP 3685 NATO's Role in Israeli-Palestinian Conflict US Expresses 'Strong Opposition' to New Turkish Military Operation in Syria Shoukry Meets Director-General of FAO Lavrov: confrontation bet. nuclear powers must be avoided News Iran Summons French Ambassador over Foreign Minister Remarks News Aboul Gheit Condemns Israeli Escalation in West Bank News Greek PM: Athens Plays Key Role in Improving Energy Security in Region News One Person Injured in Explosion at Ukrainian Embassy in Madrid Videos & Features Story behind Trending Jessica Radcliffe Death Video News Israeli-Linked Hadassah Clinic in Moscow Treats Wounded Iranian IRGC Fighters Arts & Culture "Jurassic World Rebirth" Gets Streaming Date News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier News Ayat Khaddoura's Final Video Captures Bombardment of Beit Lahia Business Egyptian Pound Undervalued by 30%, Says Goldman Sachs Videos & Features Tragedy Overshadows MC Alger Championship Celebration: One Fan Dead, 11 Injured After Stadium Fall Arts & Culture South Korean Actress Kang Seo-ha Dies at 31 after Cancer Battle Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt News The Jessica Radcliffe Orca Attack? 100% Fake and AI-Generated
