JCC's Athlete of the Week ending May 4
WATERTOWN, N.Y. (WWTI) – Jefferson Community College's Athlete of the Week for the Week Ending May 4, 2025, is Freshman Catcher Nicholas A. Spivey, of the baseball team.
Spivey, a 2024 graduate of Patterson High School, Patterson, Calif., is majoring in Natural Sciences.

Spivey amassed 12 hits, including four doubles and a crucial home run, while batting an outstanding .500 over eight games this past week. He helped the Cannoneers score six runs. Overall, Spivey went 3-for-5 with runners in scoring position and recorded an impressive OPS of 1.312.
The Cannoneers' next game will be Softball on Wednesday, May 7, at 2:30 p.m. against Corning Community College at JCC.

NNY Racing Recap: Can-Am returns from Memorial Day break
LAFARGEVILLE, N.Y. (WWTI) – Racing roared back over the weekend after the Memorial Day holiday across the north country. Theresa native Lance Willix picked up the victory over Watertown native Billy Dunn in the 25-lap 358-modified feature. Tyler Meeks, Derek Webb and Remington Hamm rounded out the top five. Mike Fowler collected the win in the 20-lap Sportsman division feature. Frank Sibley, Ryan Shanahan, Tyler Stevenson and Josh Reome finished out the top five. Jon Liberty (602 crate sprints), Michael Greenfield (thundercar) and Eymarah Bowman (limited sportsman) were also winners on Friday, May 31. Can-Am will be back in action on Friday, June 6 with the Pit Crew Showdown. Pits open at 4 p.m. with gates opening at 5 p.m. and racing beginning at 7 p.m. Evans Mills Raceway Park Rain continued to be a problem as Saturday's May 31 program was postponed. The Zeigler 67 race was pushed back until this weekend. June 6: Relay For Life at Evans Mills This weekend's scheduled card will be legends night with the pits opening at 3 p.m. Saturday. Athlete of the Week: Brylee Brewster
WARSAW–This week's Athlete of the Week is Brylee Brewster. Brewster is a senior on the Warsaw High School softball team. Last week, Brewster wrapped up her high school career in the circle by leading the Lady Wildcats to the Class2 state title. Brewster struck out 16 hitters in Warsaw's 5-0 win against Ava in the State Semifinals. Then, racked up 11 more against Diamond in the team's 1-0 victory for the program's first state championship. It's time to vote for the Detroit Free Press Girls Prep Athlete of the Week for May 25-31. This week's poll features four players, one state champion from track and field and three tennis champions. Advertisement Voting will be open until 11:59 a.m. Thursday, June 5. We'll announce the winner here shortly after the poll closes. Here are the nominees (listed in alphabetical order by last name): Nicole Fu, Rochester Adams, tennis: After finishing as the No. 1 singles runner-up for the past three seasons, Fu claimed the No. 1 Division 1 singles state championship. She defeated last season's champion Gabby Sadowski of Eisenhower in two sets, in a rematch of the 2024 championship match. Jada Josifovski, Birmingham Seaholm, tennis: Josifovski clinched the Division 2 No. 2 singles state title defeating Keira Kirkland of Farmington Hills Mercy. The junior never dropped a set on her way to the championship, contributed to the Maples winning in their first title in two seasons. Advertisement Samantha Karoub, North Farmington, tennis: Karoub completed an undefeated season, earning a Division 3 state championship. Karoub, like Josifovski, never dropped a set in her tournament appearance. Carrie VanNoy, Oak Park, track and field: The senior runner earned two state championships for her performances in the 110m and 300m hurdles. She also contributed in the 4x100 and 4x200m relays to help Oak Park clinch the Division 1 title. Come back to every Tuesday morning to vote for Athlete of the Week.
