WATCH: Harleen Deol makes blunder while running between the wickets, dismissed in bizarre fashion in 1st IND vs ENG ODI

Harleen Deol is no stranger to going viral in England – her catch on the boundary rope in July 2021 went to the corners of the internet that cricket, especially the women's game, had gone before. On Wednesday night, she found herself at the center of a moment that could potentially travel far on the interweb, but as a blooper.
Harleen, during the run-chase of the first ODI between England and India, tapped the ball to mid on and took off for a quick single in the 22nd over. It seemed like a risky single at the start, but if anything, Harmanpreet Kaur at the non-striker's end appeared to be in danger while running towards the striker's crease. Harleen had a head start and should have comfortably completed the run. But a direct hit caught the India No 3 short in an embarrassing dismissal at The Rose Bowl. As the replays showed, she was lethargic in grounding her bat the non-striker's end, and didn't manage to get her feet over the crease as well.
Alice Davidson-Richards' throw gave England a breakthrough out of nowhere as India lost quick wickets in the run-chase. Shortly after her dismissal, Harmanpreet fell too and former India men's head coach Ravi Shastri on commentary pointed out how an elementary error can change the course of the match.
Former India captain Anjum Chopra posted on X: 'Unbelievable! No way! Is it that difficult to be comfortable and safe ? Losing an opportunity to score runs in international cricket and win a match … Easily Missed!'
Direct hit. GONE.

For what it is worth, here's the catch of Harleen from the T20I in Northampton that dismissed Amy Jones.
A fantastic piece of fielding 👏

In the series opener on Wednesday, England posted 258 for six against India after opting to bat first. Sophia Dunkley amassed 83 in 92 balls to emerge as the top-scorer for England, while Alice Davidson-Richards (53), skipper Nat Sciver-Brunt (41) and Emma Lamb (39) also chipped in with useful contributions. Kranti Goud (2/55) and Sneh Rana (2/31) picked up two wickets apiece, while Shree Charani (1/46) and Amanjot Kaur (1/58) took one each. Davidson-Richards contributed 53 in 73 balls during a 106-run partnership for the fifth wicket with Dunkley, which formed the nucleus of the England innings after they lost four wickets for 97 runs.
Dunkley struck nine fours during her stay in the middle.

Fuming Ben Stokes, England refrain from applauding Jadeja, Sundar's centuries: ‘Farcical, Respect for opposition…'

The Manchester Test between India and England ended in a draw after KL Rahul, Shubman Gill, Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar batted out of their skins to help visitors maintain the chance of levelling the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. However, there was no shortage of drama on Day 5 as tempers once again flared between the two teams. In the final few minutes before the eventual draw, England captain Ben Stokes approached the umpires and Jadeja and Sundar to shake hands and end the contest right there and then. Drama unfolded in the final few minutes of the Manchester Test where tempers once again flared (AFP) However, Jadeja and Sundar were both approaching their centuries, so the duo decided not to walk off. This left Ben Stokes fuming, and he refrained from bowling his specialists as he introduced the part-timers Harry Brook and Joe Root. Harry Brook did not even try to land the ball properly as he dished out full toss after full toss. Soon after, Sundar and Jadeja registered their centuries, and eventually the game was called off. Former England batter Jonathan Trott did not take kindly to England's tactics, saying this was not a nice end to the contest. It must be mentioned that England did not even applaud once Jadeja and Sundar brought up their tons. 'Yeah, I'm not too sure I like how this game's finishing. Harry Brook is not even trying to really bother. He's just throwing up now, almost sort of saying, as he stops there, just sort of giving up and just lobbing the ball. I've always liked toss-ups, you see. For me, this is really strange,' Jonathan Trott said on air while commentating for JioStar. 'There's a way to play the game. There's a respect for the opposition. You see again, yeah, today he's just lobbing up,' he added. 'Farcical bowling' Once both teams shook hands, former England captain Michael Atherton did not hesitate to call out Harry Brook's bowling, labelling it 'farcical.' India batted for more than five sessions to save the Manchester Test. Eventually, the game was called off with the visitors at 425/4 in the second innings. Jadeja and Sundar remained unbeaten on 107 and 101, respectively. Shubman Gill registered his fourth century of the series as he played a knock of 103 runs. KL Rahul missed out on a much-deserved century as he was dismissed for 90 by Stokes. The Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy is still being led by England as they are 2-1 ahead. However, it is everything to play for at The Oval in the final Test, which begins Thursday, July 31.

IND vs ENG 4th Test: Jadeja, Sundar Pull Off Dramatic Draw To Keep Series Alive

Sundar and Ravindra Jadeja batted for over two sessions, scoring unbeaten centuries to help India secure a draw against England and keep the series alive. Washington Sundar and Ravindra Jadeja batted for over two sessions to help India avoid a decisive defeat and secure a draw on Sunday, keeping the series alive as they head to the finale at The Oval. After conceding a 311-run lead and losing both openers for ducks in the second innings, India showed great determination to achieve a favourable outcome, thanks to captain Shubman Gill (103 off 238), K L Rahul (90 off 230), Jadeja (107 not out off 185), and Washington (101 not out off 206). With Ben Stokes and Jofra Archer removing a well-set Gill and Rahul in the morning, England sensed a series-winning victory. However, Jadeja and Washington remained steadfast before capitalising on the bowlers towards the end of the day. Just before the final hour of play, Ben Stokes wanted to end the game, but India decided to continue with Washington and Jadeja aiming for their deserved hundreds. Stokes was clearly displeased. Harry Brook started offering easy deliveries to Jadeja and Washington as a sign of his disapproval of India's decision to continue playing. The players shook hands after Jadeja and Washington reached their milestones, with Washington scoring his maiden Test century. The day five pitch didn't pose many challenges, although some movement and variable bounce were evident in the morning session when Gill and Rahul got out after a 188-run partnership. Given the match situation, the determined resistance from India's two left-handed batsmen in the second and final session was reminiscent of R Ashwin and Hanuma Vihari's match-saving stand in the Sydney Test of 2021. Rishabh Pant, nursing a broken foot, was available to bat in the second innings but did not need to come out, avoiding further injury. This was only England's second draw in the 40 Tests played during the Bazball era, with the previous one also at Old Trafford during the 2023 Ashes, where weather played a significant role. The pitch here has been on the drier side throughout the domestic season, with four games resulting in draws. With both sides struggling to keep their fast bowlers fit in this long and challenging series, it will be interesting to see how many first-choice pacers participate in the fifth Test in London starting on July 31. At tea, India were 322 for four after scoring 99 runs during a wicketless afternoon session. Stokes, who looked dangerous in his eight-over spell in the morning, couldn't maintain the same intensity in the three overs he bowled in the second session. In a 15-run over from Stokes, Washington hit the England captain for a six and a four to reach his fifty, while Jadeja used the cut shot to complete his fifth half-century in six innings. England struggled because left-arm spinner Liam Dawson couldn't challenge the Indian left-handers enough, and Archer couldn't get a breakthrough after lunch. Dawson failed to exploit the rough outside the left-hander's off-stump. In the morning session, Gill completed a brave century after Stokes dismissed a well-set K L Rahul, leaving India at 223 for four at lunch. Starting the day at 174 for two with a deficit of 137, India stayed on track to draw the game thanks to Gill's fighting effort, who achieved his fourth century of the series. The Indian captain was dismissed just before lunch with India still trailing England by 88 runs. Considering India's precarious position and the series on the line, this could be Gill's defining century if India managed to save the match and keep the series alive. Expecting the ball to come in, Gill reached for an Archer delivery that moved away, getting a faint edge. The 188-run partnership between Gill and Rahul (90 off 230) ended when the latter was trapped in front by Stokes with a ball that stayed a bit low. Shortly after, Stokes got one to bounce sharply from a similar length, causing Rahul significant pain. The rising ball first struck Gill's right thumb before hitting his helmet. It was remarkable that Stokes, who wasn't fit enough to bowl on day four, managed an eight-over spell on day five despite discomfort in his right shoulder and hamstring. Like at Lord's, he disregarded his injury-prone body to help his team. The new ball was taken after the 80th over, resulting in Gill's dismissal. Jadeja could have been out on the first ball, but Joe Root couldn't hold onto a tough chance at first slip off Archer. view comments Location : New Delhi, India, India First Published: July 27, 2025, 22:39 IST News cricket IND vs ENG 4th Test: Jadeja, Sundar Pull Off Dramatic Draw To Keep Series Alive Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Shubman Gill Gives Big Update On Jasprit Bumrah's Availability For 5th IND-ENG Test

Before the start of the India-England Test series, it was confirmed by chief selector Ajit Agarkar, head coach Gautam Gambhir, captain Shubman Gill, and Jasprit Bumrah himself that he will play only three Test matches in England. And now when he has played three matches for India, there are doubts in everyone's mind about whether Bumrah will be available for the fifth and final Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, which is scheduled to take place at The Oval from July 31 to August 4. In an ideal scenario, Bumrah would miss the game as part of his workload management, but with the series on the line, there is a possibility that the 31-year-old fast bowler could play.
