Bahrain Continues Strong Efforts Against Human Trafficking, Says Rights Body

Bahrain's commitment to fighting human trafficking remains strong, according to Ali Ahmed Al-Derazi, Chairman of the National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR). Speaking on the occasion of World Day Against Trafficking in Persons, Al-Derazi highlighted that the NIHR closely monitors the Kingdom's efforts in this area as part of its independent role in observing, evaluating, and promoting human rights protections. He noted that Bahrain has maintained its Tier 1 status for several consecutive years in the U.S. State Department's Trafficking in Persons Report—a recognition of the country's consistent efforts and commitment to combatting this crime. Al-Derazi explained that the NIHR follows all related developments, from government legislation to institutional measures, and regularly provides feedback and recommendations to relevant authorities. These efforts, he said, aim to strengthen national initiatives while maintaining a balance between human security, dignity, and individual rights. He also stressed the importance of expanding cooperation with international and regional organizations, exchanging expertise, and adopting global best practices to combat this cross-border crime. The NIHR, he affirmed, will continue its mission through monitoring, evaluation, awareness initiatives, and partnerships with respected international bodies.
