Oregon Football listed as 'team to beat' for one of top DL in 2027 class
All focus over the past few weeks has been on the 2026 recruiting class for the Oregon Ducks, but behind the scenes, Dan Lanning and his staff have quietly been making a strong push down the road as well.
Earlier this week, Rivals' recruiting director Adam Gorney gave a breakdown on the recruitment for some of the top players in the 2027 class, and he stated that the Ducks are the "team to beat" for 4-star defensive tackle Kasi Currie, who stands at 6-foot-5, 315 pounds. As a California native from Sierra Canyon, Oregon has been an early name to watch in the recruitment for Currie, who the 247Sports Composite rates as the No. 156 player in the class, and No. 13 defensive lineman.
"Emerging as one of the top 2027 defensive tackles nationally, Oregon has a big early edge for the Chatsworth (Calif.) Sierra Canyon standout as he's loved his trips to Eugene and will be back on June 1," Gorney wrote.
While it is still early in his recruitment, and offers continue to pour in for the fast-rising sophomore, Lanning and his team have put themselves in a good position early on. They will have to battle some other big names down the stretch, though.
"Texas A&M, Tennessee, and USC are three others to watch, and LSU just offered on Tuesday," Gorney said. "But Oregon is definitely the team to beat."
Currie was on campus in Eugene for the Ducks' spring game, and he plans to return on June 1 later this summer.
The Ducks don't have any commitments in the 2027 class, but Currie would be a great player to kick things off should he give his verbal in the coming months.

From Title IX trailblazer to Valkyries superfan: Lucy Bledsoe's full-circle basketball journey
Back in the 1970s, when Lucy Bledsoe was a teenager, her high school didn't even have a girls' basketball team. "Luckily, my brothers had coached me a whole lot growing up. I have one brother in particular who just really loved drilling me over and over and over and over on everything from my layups, my shot but there was no team to play on and that always really disappointed me," she said. Bledsoe said that for a while there, she just played tennis because that was the only sport offered to girls. But she never quite got over the fact that basketball was her true love. Then, Gloria Steinem came to town. "I learned a couple of really huge things. One, I learned that Title IX was a law that had been passed two years previously, which said I had a right to a basketball team at my high school," Bledsoe said. So, Bledsoe got straight to work on getting a women's basketball team at her school. "We began petitioning the Portland Public School Boards as well as going down to the Oregon state legislature in Salem about bringing Oregon into compliance with Title IX," Bledsoe said. Bledsoe said she truly believed the process would be easy but then the blowback came. "The boys basketball coach literally found me in a dark hall by myself, this is literally true, pushed me against the wall and said if you don't shut up, you'll be sorry," Bledsoe said. Still, Bledsoe didn't let that stop her, and by her senior year, she won, successfully getting a team at her school. And, as if out of a movie, that team went on to win the state championship. "It was really a fun story that had this wonderful ending with lots of yeah," Bledsoe said. But of course, that storybook ending wasn't the end of Lucy Bledsoe. She moved to the Bay Area for college and never left, becoming a writer and publishing several novels, including one based on that high school experience. "I thought, wow, I didn't realize what I had been through because I was just trying to get through as a 16, 17,18 year old, so it was very emotional writing it," Bledsoe said. Bledsoe has traveled the country telling her story. One of the more satisfying things she says is to see just how far women's basketball has come. "I love the WNBA. I love the sisterhood of it. I love the differences in women's basketball and men's basketball," she said. Bledsoe, like thousands of others here in the Bay, has become a diehard Valkyries fan. She's so excited to see the support the team is getting from the community, and while there is still a way to go in getting true equality for female athletes, she's happy to have helped pave the way for these elite basketball players. "It's amazing and yeah, we do have a ways to go, but I think we're on a good trajectory," Bledsoe said.

After over a week without an addition to its 2026 class, the Wisconsin football team got back on the board with the commitment of 3-star defensive back Zachary Taylor (Katy, Texas). Advertisement Pulling Taylor out of Texas wasn't going to be easy, but he took an official visit to Wisconsin at the start of the month, and the Badgers took advantage of his time in Madison. Beyond Wisconsin, Taylor's official visits included West Virginia, Texas Tech, Pitt, and Houston. He ultimately chose the Badgers over the other four programs. The newest Wisconsin commit announced his pledge to the Badgers via his social media. With a background as a multi-sport athlete that includes track and soccer, Taylor's athleticism has the Wisconsin football staff extremely excited, and they anticipate he'll develop into a standout player. Advertisement He is a versatile player who has played both cornerback and safety in high school. Although he is listed as a cornerback on 247Sports, the Wisconsin staff views him as a safety. Zachary Taylor in the Recruiting Rankings Though currently rated as a 3-star prospect by major recruiting services, Taylor is a perfect example of the type of player whose ranking could significantly improve, possibly reaching 4-star status by the end of his senior year. But as of right now, here is where he falls on the major recruiting websites. 247Sports 247Sports probably has the highest rating on Taylor, albeit as a cornerback. But a rating of 89 is a borderline 4-star player on its rating scale. The 247Sports Composite has him as the 439th-overall player in the country and the 43rd-ranked cornerback. Advertisement Rivals Similar to 247Sports, Rivals has Taylor as a borderline 4-star player. Their 5.7 rating for the new Wisconsin football commit is the highest rating a 3-star prospect can get before hitting 5.8, which would give him a fourth star. The recruiting site does not have him in any national, state, or positional rankings. On3 On3 is the site lowest on Taylor. They have him as a 3-star prospect as well and a rating of just 85.95. 3-star prospects fall in the 80-89 range. They have him as the 926th-overall prospect in the 2026 class and the 83rd-ranked safety. Where the Wisconsin Football Recruiting Class Stands With the Addition of Taylor Zachary Taylor's commitment pushed the 2026 class to 12 players for the Wisconsin football program. The addition of Taylor gives the Badgers a nice little boost, pushing them from 40th to 33rd in the 247Sports Team Rankings as it currently stands. Advertisement Taylor also becomes the Bagders' top-ranked player in the class according to the 247Sports rankings. With just 12 committed players, the Wisconsin football team still has plenty of work to do in filling out the rest of this class. 4-star running back Amari Latimer is a top target for the team, and there are still a few targets at wide receiver, including Jayden Petit, Zachary Washington, and Zion Legree. Recruiting may have slowed down a bit, but there are still things coming in the near future. 2026 4-star RB re-affirms his commitment to Texas A&M
This weekend, Texas A&M coach Mike Elko and his staff are hosting 18 prospects from the 2026 recruiting class, including six commitments in the cycle, providing another opportunity to capitalize on the program's early success in landing recruits in four-star wide receiver Aaron Gregory, and four-star running back Jonathan Hatton, who are both being heavily pursued by other programs this summer. Hatton was previously committed to Oklahoma before re-opening his recruitment and ultimately committing to the Aggies in late March. However, the Sooners are still attempting to reel him back in, as the Cibolo (TX) native will take an official visit to Oklahoma on June 20. Still, over the past two months after his commitment, including this weekend's official visit, Hatton is completely locked in ahead of Early Signing Day in December. On the field, Hatton is an elite runner with the vision, footwork, and upfield burst to become a star at the next level, having produced 1,229 yards and 20 touchdowns while averaging 9.17 yards per carry. With Le'Veon Moss leaving after the 2025 season, bringing Hatton into the backfield lineup will provide immediate depth in 2026. According to 247Sports Composite, Hatton is currently positioned as the 77th-ranked prospect in the 2026 class, the 5th-ranked running back, and the 10th-ranked prospect in Texas.
