Tyrese Haliburton's dad staying away from Pacers games after Giannis confrontation

New York Post01-05-2025

Tyrese Haliburton's father, John, will not be attending any Pacers games for the 'foreseeable future' after he got into a confrontation with Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo following Game 5 in the first round of the NBA playoffs.
John met with the Pacers front office, and the decision was made by the organization that he would not attend any of their home and road games going forward, a Pacers spokesperson told ESPN's Shams Charania.
The incident made headlines after the game in which Antetokounmpo explained he felt John's actions were 'very disrespectful' when he had waved a towel and yelled, 'this is what we f–king do.'

John admitted that going on to the court 'was wrong,' during an interview with Milwaukee news station TMJ4 on Wednesday.
However, he insisted that he had never shouted in Antetokounmpo's face.

'When I was off the court, [Antetokounmpo] put his hands on me. I'm not saying that he did it in a hostile way,' John told the TV station. 'He reached out, he grabbed my hands. He put his forehead on my forehead, and he proceeded to say what he said to me, and that was, 'Don't you ever f–king disrespect me again.''
Both Antetokounmpo and John had said that they had left things on good terms when all was said and done.
The Pacers star said he didn't condone what his dad had done following the win.

'He needs to just allow me to play basketball and stay over there and I'll come to him to celebrate. But the emotions of the game got excited there. I talked with him. I'll talk with Giannis. I don't think my pops was in the right at all there,' Haliburton said.

Pacers head coach Rick Carlisle spoke highly of Haliburton's father in the wake of the incident.

'I want everyone to know that this is a guy with a heart of gold, and the one thing he loves close to his son is the Pacers,' Carlisle said during 'The Fan Morning Show' on 107.5 FM in Indy.
'But, it can't manifest the way that it did, and he knows that.'

Haliburton dismisses injury fears ahead of Thunder clash

Indiana Pacers star Tyrese Haliburton has played down fitness concerns ahead of Wednesday's NBA Finals game three with Oklahoma City (MATTHEW STOCKMAN) Indiana Pacers star Tyrese Haliburton shrugged off fitness fears on Tuesday as his team prepared to regain momentum against the Oklahoma City Thunder in game three of the NBA Finals. Haliburton was seen walking with a limp following Sunday's rout by the Thunder in game two following a lackluster performance in which he struggled to trouble the Oklahoma City defense. Advertisement Haliburton though insisted on Tuesday his fitness was not a concern as Indiana look to regain the lead after Sunday's loss left the series tied at 1-1. "I'm fine," Haliburton told reporters. "Really just a lower leg thing. I'll leave it at that. I don't think there's anything more to elaborate. "I feel fine and I'll be ready to go for Game 3." Pacers head coach Rick Carlisle said Haliburton was experiencing "some discomfort" but said that was to be expected as the gruelling eight-month season reached its climax. "At this time of year, I don't know if anybody's feeling perfect," Carlisle said of Haliburton. Advertisement "He practiced. He went through everything. I know he has some discomfort. He feels it. But each day it's getting better. I don't think you're going to hear him making a big deal out of it." Carlisle added that while "a couple" of Pacers players were under the weather, nothing would prevent them from lining up for the remainder of the series. "I don't think anything is going to keep these guys from playing in the game," Carlisle added. The Pacers coach was more preoccupied with drawing up a gameplan that can deliver a more consistent performance following an uneven start to the finals. Advertisement The Pacers have trailed for most of the opening two games, winning game one with a last-second Haliburton basket before being blown out in game two in what was almost a wire-to-wire Thunder win. "I think we've lost, at least by scoreboard, six out of eight or seven out of eight quarters," Carlisle said. "We're playing a great team. So we've got to make adjustments. We got to play better. "Everything that's already happened doesn't matter, other than the score of the series. We have to move forward. There's a lot of things we have to do better. We realize that." Pacers ace Pascal Siakam meanwhile said the key to reigniting the team's finals challenge would be disrupting Oklahoma City's offense and winning the battle for rebounds. Advertisement "We got to get stops. You get stops, you get in transition. That's the first thing," Siakam said. "We got to also get rebounds. If you can't do those two things, I don't think you can be successful in transition. "We know we can run. That's what we do. It's not really possible to run if you're not getting stops or you're not getting rebounds." rcw/jc

2025 U.S. Open predictions, picks, odds: Scottie Scheffler, Bryson DeChambeau favorites

The first two golf majors of the year have been claimed, with Rory McIlroy winning the Masters Tournament in April and Scottie Scheffler taking the PGA Championship last month. Who will win the 2025 U.S. Open? The third major of the year is set to tee off at Oakmont Country Club in Oakmont, Pennsylvania, on Thursday for a record 10th time. Scheffler (+275) and McIlroy (+1400) are among the favorites to win the 2025 U.S. Open, along with reigning U.S. Open champion Bryson DeChambeau (+750), who is looking to become the eighth golfer to win back-to-back U.S. Open titles and the first since Brooks Koepka repeated in 2018. Advertisement McIlroy won the U.S. Open in 2011, while Scheffler's best result at the tournament came in 2022 when he was the runner-up behind champion Matt Fitzpatrick. Scottie Scheffler walks to the first tee during the final round of the Memorial Tournament golf tournament on June 1, 2025. Here's everything you need to know about the 2025 U.S. Open: Predictions for 2025 U.S. Open Championship Dylan Dethier, Xander Schauffele always shows up at U.S. Open "Don't let him throw you off the scent with his first non-top-20 major finish in three-plus years or a surprisingly poor putting performance at the Memorial. If Xander can find the groove with his driver, he has as good a chance as anybody to win this thing. Don't forget: He's played eight U.S. Opens in his life, he's never finished worse than 14th, and he has six top-7s. Book this man for a win, cover your bases with a top 10." Jessica Marksbury, Scottie Scheffler continues to dominate "How can I go with any other player? Scottie is back in alpha mode, and a U.S. Open at Oakmont — golf's toughest test on the game's toughest course — will identify the most complete player as champion. That's Scottie. Third leg of the career grand slam comin' up!" Nick Piastowski, Bryson DeChambeau repeats "With high rough, give me the guy who's hitting wedges into the greens. It's hard to bet against Scottie Scheffler, but I'm predicting a DeChambeau repeat." Iain MacMillan, Sports Illustrated: Scottie Scheffler is running a one-man race "If you aren't going to bet on Scottie Scheffler, you should stick to betting the 'without Scheffler' market. We haven't seen a golfer listed with as short of odds as +280 to win a major since Tiger Woods in his prime, but in my opinion, his odds should be even shorter. Advertisement "He has won three of his last four starts, including running away with the PGA Championship at Quail Hollow. Over the last six months, Scheffler has gained 0.73 true strokes per round more than any other golfer in the world. The 0.73 strokes per round gap between Scheffler and the second-ranked golfer, Bryson DeChambeau, is the same as the gap between DeChambeau and Sepp Straka."
