A day after three people were killed and 50 others injured in a stampede near Shree Gundicha temple in Puri, thousands of devotees on Tuesday made a beeline to have a darshan of the sibling deities -- Lord Balabhadra, Devi Subhadra and Lord Jagannath.In view of Monday's incident, barricades have been erected in front of the Shree Gundicha temple and different queues made for the smooth darshan of the deities at 'Adapa Mandap' (the podium on which the deities are seated) situated inside the temple, a senior police officer said."We are alert... by the grace of the Lord, everything is running smoothly. Devotees are entering the Shree Gundicha Temple without any hassle," said Soumendra Priyadarshi, an ADG-rank IPS officer who has been assigned the responsibility of overseeing the police arrangement during Rath Yatra.He was assigned the task by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi after the stampede.Devotees believe that they can wash away their sins if they have darshan of Lord Jagannath atop the 'Adapa Mandap'.At least three persons, including two women, were killed and around 50 others injured in a stampede near Shree Gundicha temple in Puri on Sunday morning during a ceremony related to the ongoing Rath Yatra festivities, officials said.The incident took place around 4.20 am when thousands of devotees had gathered near the chariots parked in front of the temple, they said.

Puri Stampede: How two trucks led to a deadly situation during Rath Yatra
Three devotees lost their lives early Sunday morning in a stampede outside the Gundicha Temple in Puri, Odisha. The incident happened between 4:00 a.m. and 4:30 a.m., when thousands had gathered to get a glimpse of the deities stationed in front of the temple, a day after the Rath Yatra . Stampede occurred after rituals concluded smoothly According to officials quoted by TOI, the main Rath Yatra rituals on Friday and Saturday were conducted without any issues, despite a brief delay due to a crowd surge on the first day. Over 12 lakh devotees attended the celebrations over two days. However, Sunday morning's stampede occurred during a much smaller gathering of about 5,000–6,000 people. Eyewitnesses say vehicles caused panic Parikhita Mishra, an eyewitness from Dhenkanal, said that vehicles moving through the crowd triggered the chaos. 'Two trucks carrying wooden ladders for the chariots were permitted to move through the crowd, further narrowing the space and triggering panic. Locals question police planning Santosh Das, a Puri resident and regular temple-goer, criticised the authorities for repeated lapses. 'Every year, we see huge crowds during festivals, yet the police authorities never learn. There were a handful of policemen for thousands of devotees. How can they possibly maintain order?' he asked. Officials suspended, compensation announced After the incident, Puri Deputy Commissioner of Police Bishnu Charan Pati and Police Commandant Ajay Padhi were suspended. The District Collector and Superintendent of Police were also transferred. The Odisha government has launched an investigation and announced ₹25 lakh as compensation for the families of each deceased victim.

Odisha: Devotees throng Puri on fourth day of annual Rath Yatra
Puri (Odisha) [India], June 30 (ANI): On the fourth day of Rath Yatra, devotees gathered in large numbers to witness and be part of the grand event. The Rath Yatra began on June 27 from Jagannath Temple here. July 5 will mark the conclusion of the event, known as 'Bahuda Yatra'. A devotee named Anita, who got the opportunity to pull the chariot, shared her excitement and said, 'We have been feeling lucky for the last two days because when we first came here, the Lord gave us darshan on the chariot. There was a huge crowd, but even amidst that, it seemed like he was protecting us.' 'After the stampede yesterday morning, our family members were worried. However, we don't feel any chaos here. Everything is good here and everyone is kind. We are very blessed to see such beautiful scenes,' she further added. Another devotee, Deepak Rawat, who was attending the Rath Yatra for the first time, said, 'I have come here for the first time and Lord Jagannath has given me a wonderful opportunity to pull the chariot. I want to thank Lord Jagannath so that he can provide such opportunities to everyone and fulfil everyone's wishes.' Three devotees lost their lives and several others were injured in Sunday's stampede at the world-famous Rath Yatra of Lord Jagannath in Puri. Odisha Law Minister Prithiviraj Harichandan called the stampede 'very unfortunate' and said that appropriate action will be taken after the completion of investigation. 'The incident is very unfortunate. The state government has taken strict action and a senior officer will investigate the incident. We will take action once we get the report of the investigation,' Harichandan told reporters. He added, 'Mahaprabhu, with his wish, he gives darshan to his devotees. Tomorrow, the devotees will have the opportunity to offer prayers. I prayed to Mahaprabhu for the well-being of everyone.' Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi expressed deep sorrow over the incident and announced a financial assistance of 25 lakh to the families of each deceased devotee. He also assured that strict action would be taken against those responsible and pledged to prevent such tragedies in the future. Following the incident, the state government has ordered a high-level administrative inquiry to be supervised by the Development Commissioner. Puri Superintendent of Police Pinak Mishra has been appointed in place of the previous SP, and Puri Collector Siddharth Shankar Swain has been replaced by Chanchal Rana.
