ALBAWABA - Fires erupt across central Israel and the occupied West Bank, forcing evacuations and massive firefighting efforts amid strong winds and heat. Also Read Gaza clashes escalate as Al-Qassam hits Israeli forces
A fire broke out at a zoo in Ramat Gan, which is located in the center of Israel, according to Yedioth Ahronoth, and the authorities were trying to evacuate the people who were visiting the park.
It was also reported in the newspaper that big flames broke out in the Wadi Qelt region, which is located east of the occupied West Bank. This confirmed that Israeli officials are trying to rescue hundreds of people while also deploying planes and firefighting workers. There are worries that hundreds of people may be trapped.
Strong winds and high temperatures caused enormous flames to rage in the region between occupied Jerusalem and Tel Aviv for around twenty hours. On Thursday of last week, the Israeli Fire and Rescue Authority made the announcement that the fires had been brought under control.
"After approximately twenty hours of obstinate struggle, firefighters were able to bring the fire under control," the Israeli Fire and Rescue Authority said in a statement on Facebook. — 🗺️خبر الشام (@alaameri99) April 23, 2025
Furthermore, it said, "More than 100 firefighting crews are currently working in five active sectors with the assistance of firefighting aircraft from the Fire Department's Elad squadron."
According to the findings of the Fire Department, "approximately 10,000 dunams (of land) were burned, causing property damage."
There were three communities between Jerusalem and Tel Aviv that were evacuated as a consequence of the fire, according to an announcement made by the Israeli police on Wednesday.

Pope Leo XIV to hold inaugural mass at St Peter's Square in front of 250,000

Ammon News - An estimated 250,000 pilgrims and a host of world leaders and royals, including the US vice-president, JD Vance, the Ukrainian president, Volodymyr Zelenskyy; Canadian prime minister, Mark Carney, and Britain's Prince Edward, are expected to attend St Peter's Square for the inaugural mass of Pope Leo XIV. The service, which begins on Sunday at 10am local time, marks the official start of the papacy of the first US pontiff in the history of the Roman Catholic church. The Chicago-born cardinal Robert Prevost, 69, was elected to succeed the late Pope Francis earlier this month after a conclave that lasted less than 26 hours. Other world leaders attending include the Israeli president, Isaac Herzog, the Argentinian president, Javier Milei, and the Australian prime minister, Anthony Albanese. As is tradition for an inaugural papal Sunday mass, Leo is expected to arrive in St Peter's Square aboard a popemobile and spend some time greeting the crowd. Alongside a procession of cardinals, the pope then enters St Peter's Basilica, where he will receive two gifts that symbolise the papacy. The first is a gold signet fisherman's ring, which is named in honour of St Peter, a fisher who was the first pope. The ring represents the beginning and end of a papacy, and when a pontiff dies, it is destroyed by a senior cardinal. Until 1842, the ring was used to seal official documents signed by the pope. The second gift is a lamb's wool pallium, which symbolises the pope's role as a shepherd, and is draped over his shoulders before the mass begins. The Guardian

Gaza on the Brink of Famine: $10 for a Kilo of Flour, $27 per Liter of Fuel - Jordan News

Under an unrelenting Israeli siege lasting more than two months, the Gaza Strip is witnessing catastrophic price spikes on basic goods, pushing its 2.4 million residents to the edge of famine. اضافة اعلان Prices for staple items are unprecedented: Flour: $9.45/kg (a 50kg sack = $400) Potatoes and onions: $10.80/kg Tomatoes: $7.30/kg Eggplant: $8.10/kg Fuel: $27/liter Civilians now resort to bartering, trading scarce household items like coffee for small amounts of food. "This kilo of flour equals a day of life," said one resident, pointing to worm-infested flour he had no choice but to feed his children. Desperation is visible everywhere—children eat meals made from spoiled flour mixed with rice or pasta, just to sleep without hunger. Aid kitchens have shut down due to lack of fuel and ingredients, and NGOs warn that humanitarian operations are collapsing. The World Central Kitchen suspended operations this week, citing empty reserves and Israel's ongoing closure of aid crossings. It had previously delivered over 130 million meals. Meanwhile, the International Committee of the Red Cross described Gaza as "hell on earth," warning of a total breakdown of aid efforts unless the blockade is lifted. Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammad Mustafa has officially declared Gaza a famine zone, echoing warnings by the World Bank, UN agencies, and international rights groups. This human catastrophe unfolds alongside mass displacement, with over 90% of Gaza's population forced from their homes, many multiple times, now surviving in overcrowded shelters or open air, amidst the spread of disease. Despite some American-led initiatives to drop aid, skepticism remains high, especially as analysts believe these efforts facilitate Israeli goals of depopulating northern Gaza. Since October 7, 2023, Israel's war on Gaza has killed or injured over 172,000 Palestinians, mostly women and children, with 11,000+ missing. The scale of destruction is unprecedented in modern conflicts.

UNRWA: Hundreds of Thousands in Gaza Eat One Meal Every Two or Three Days - Jordan News

UNRWA: Hundreds of Thousands in Gaza Eat One Meal Every Two or Three Days The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) said on Tuesday that hundreds of thousands of Palestinians in Gaza are surviving on just one meal every two to three days due to Israel's ongoing starvation policy, which includes closing border crossings and blocking humanitarian aid from entering the Strip for more than two months. اضافة اعلان In a statement on its official website, the agency reported that over a thousand children in Gaza are suffering from severe malnutrition as a result of this policy. The UN agency also stressed that it will not participate in the Israeli aid distribution plan for Gaza, stating that the plan does not meet UN standards. — (Petra News Agency)
