NEW YORK (AP) — Dodgers pitcher Clayton Kershaw was picked for his 11th All-Star Game and Paul Skenes, James Wood and Elly De La Cruz boosted the 23-and-under group to five when they were picked Sunday for the July 15 showcase at Atlanta's Truist Park.
Wood at 22 is the youngest of the 65 All-Stars, while Skenes, De La Cruz and fan-elected starters Pete Crow-Armstrong and Jacob Wilson are all 23.
Cal Raleigh and Yoshinobu Yamamoto joined Wood, Wilson and Crow-Armstrong among 19 first-time All-Stars. Wood was acquired by Washington in the August 2022 trade that sent outfielder Juan Soto to San Diego.
'It'll just be cool being around some of the best players in the game,' Wood said.
Kershaw last week became the 20th pitcher to reach 3,000 strikeouts and Commissioner Rob Manfred made the left-hander the 65th All-Star as a so-called Legend Pick, his first since selecting Miguel Cabrera and Albert Pujols in 2022 under a provision in the then-new collective bargaining agreement.
Kershaw gives the Dodgers at least five All-Stars for the sixth straight season. The oldest NL All-Star at 37 and most senior All-Star with 11 selections, Kershaw is joined by Yamamoto and fan-elected starters Shohei Ohtani, Freddie Freeman and Will Smith.
Atlanta, Detroit and Seattle will have four players each at the game.
Starting pitchers Hunter Brown of Houston, Garrett Crochet of Boston, Jacob deGrom of Texas, Max Fried of the New York Yankees and Tarik Skubal of Detroit were voted to the AL staff by players, managers and coaches along with relievers Aroldis Chapman of Boston, Josh Hader of Houston and Andres Munoz of Seattle.
Chapman is the oldest All-Star, born 19 days before Kershaw.
AL reserves picked by players included Toronto catcher Alejandro Kirk, Tampa Bay first baseman Jonathan Aranda and second baseman Brandon Lowe, Houston shortstop Jeremy Pena, Boston third baseman Alex Bregman, Athletics designated hitter Brent Rooker and outfielders Byron Buxton of Minnesota, Steven Kwan of Cleveland and Julio Rodriguez of Seattle.
MLB used its six picks on pitchers Kris Bubic of Kansas City, Yusei Kikuchi of the Los Angeles Angels, Shane Smith of the Chicago White Sox and Bryan Woo of Seattle along with Yankees infielder Jazz Chisholm Jr. and Kansas City shortstop Bobby Witt Jr.
Smith became the second player since 2000 to become an All-Star in the season after he was selected in the Rule 5 draft, following Marlins second baseman Dan Uggla in 2006, according to the Elias Sports Bureau. Smith was left unprotected by Milwaukee and joined Wilson (Athletics) as the only rookies on the All-Star rosters.
Pittsburgh's Skenes, Washington's MacKenzie Gore, Atlanta's Chris Sale, San Francisco's Logan Webb and Philadelphia's Zack Wheeler were elected to the starting rotation by players along with relievers Jason Adam of San Diego, Edwin Diaz of the New York Mets and Randy Rodriguez of San Francisco.
Skeenes started last year's All-Star Game just 66 days his major league debut, pitching a hitless inning in the NL's 5-3 loss at Arlington, Texas.
Player-elected NL reserves were Colorado catcher Hunter Goodman, Mets first baseman Pete Alonso, St. Louis second baseman Brendan Donovan, Cincinnati's De La Cruz at shortstop, Arizona third baseman Eugenio Suárez, Philadelphia DH Kyle Schwarber and Wood, Arizona's Corbin Carroll and the Padres' Fernando Tatis Jr. in the outfield.
MLB's NL picks were Yamamoto, the Cubs' Matthew Boyd, Milwaukee's Freddy Peralta and the Giants' Robbie Ray for the pitching staff along with Atlanta first baseman Matt Olson and Miami outfielder Kyle Stowers.

2025 MLB All-Star Game: Examining AL, NL Rosters By The Numbers

We finally know who will be a part of this year's Midsummer Classic. The American and National League rosters were unveiled for the 2025 MLB All-Star Game (8 p.m. ET on Tuesday, July 15, on FOX and the FOX Sports app) on Sunday, with 65 total players receiving the honor. A good majority of the players named to the rosters weren't too much of a surprise. We all knew Aaron Judge, Shohei Ohtani and Cal Raleigh would be starters, while Bobby Witt Jr. and Elly De La Cruz were among the shoo-ins to be included as reserves. But there were some surprise inclusions, such as Julio Rodriguez and Alex Bregman, with the latter having not played in a game since May 23. Of course, there were also several players that fans and media felt were snubbed from the rosters, too. Some of those snubs will likely get a call in the coming days telling them that they've been named to the All-Star roster, as there's always a handful of players who have to drop out before the midsummer classic. As we await that to happen, though, let's take a look at this year's All-Star rosters by the numbers. 11: Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Clayton Kershaw received his 11th All-Star nod on Sunday thanks to MLB commissioner Rob Manfred making him a legends pick. With his 11th All-Star nod, Kershaw has tied Mike Trout for the most All-Star honors among active players. Kershaw also broke the tie with Pee Wee Reese for the most All-Star nods in Dodgers history with Sunday's announcement. 5: Speaking of the Dodgers, they have the most players named to the All-Star roster. Kershaw joined Shohei Ohtani, Will Smith, Freddie Freeman and Yoshinobu Yamamoto. It marks the sixth straight All-Star Game that the Dodgers have had at least five players named to the All-Star roster. But it might not be the greatest omen for the Dodgers as the 2021 Atlanta Braves were the only team to lead the league in players named to an All-Star game and win the World Series in the same season since 2018. 10: One player who wasn't among that group of Dodgers players to be named an All-Star was Mookie Betts. This marks the first time since 2015 that Betts hasn't been named to an All-Star roster, ending the longest active All-Star Game appearances streak among active players. 4: In the American League, two teams each had four players named to the roster. The MLB-leading Detroit Tigers (Tarik Skubal, Riley Greene, Javier Baez, Gleyber Torres) and the playoff-hopeful Seattle Mariners (Cal Raleigh, Andres Munoz, Bryan Woo, Julio Rodriguez) were those two teams. 3: In terms of fWAR, Arizona Diamondbacks shortstop Geraldo Perdomo and Dodgers outfielder Andy Pages were the two biggest All-Star snubs. They each have a 3.0 fWAR as of Monday. 2.8: Boston Red Sox outfielder Ceddanne Rafaela had the best fWAR among American League position players at 2.8. While his fielding is a big reason for that, Rafaela has been hot at the plate recently as well, posting a .304 batting average and eight home runs since June 1. 2.8: Among all pitchers, Philadelphia Phillies lefty Jesus Luzardo had the best fWAR among players who weren't named to an All-Star roster. However, he's 7-5 with a 4.44 ERA this season. 77: Chicago Cubs outfielder Seiya Suzuki is also among those who were snubbed from the NL All-Star roster even though he has an MLB-leading 77 RBIs as of Monday. 22: New York Mets star Juan Soto was also among those snubbed, but one of the players the San Diego Padres traded to get him in 2022 wasn't. Washington Nationals outfielder James Wood was the youngest player named to an All-Star roster, at 22. 37: While Kershaw is tied for the most All-Star nods among active players, he wasn't the oldest player named to an All-Star roster on Sunday. That honor belongs to Red Sox reliever Aroldis Chapman, who is 19 days older than Kershaw at 37. Chapman has had a resurgence this season, recording 15 saves in 16 opportunities. Among the 30 players who lead their team in saves, Chapman is second in WHIP (0.78) and ERA (1.25). 2: Chicago White Sox starting pitcher Shane Smith became the second player in MLB history to be named an All-Star in the season following his selection in the Rule 5 Draft. The righty was previously in the Milwaukee Brewers organization before being the first pick in this past offseason's Rule 5 Draft. 15: Tigers outfielder Javier Baez's sudden resurgence back to hitting at an All-Star level will allow him to make history. He'll become one of 15 players to ever record a start in an All-Star game in the infield and the outfield. He'll also become the fourth player in MLB history to start an All-Star game at three different positions, previously making starts at second base and shortstop during his Cubs tenure. Pete Rose, Harmon Killebrew and Albert Pujols are the other three players on that list. 356: Padres third baseman Manny Machado is arguably the most decorated hitter named to one of the All-Star teams this year. He leads all All-Stars all-time in home runs (356) and is second among all 2025 All-Stars in hits. In fact, he's two hits shy of 2,000 entering the week. 35: While Machano has arguably been the most prolific career hitter among all the players named to the All-Star squad, Mariners catcher Cal Raleigh has been among the best hitters this year. His 35 home runs lead the majors as of Monday. .360: New York Yankees star Aaron Judge isn't too far behind Raleigh in the home run chase with 33 this season as of Monday. His .360 batting average is also the best mark in the majors, while his 74 RBIs lead the American League as he seeks the Triple Crown. 1.82: Who should take the mound and get the start at pitcher for the American League? Many would argue that Tigers ace Tarik Skubal (MLB leader in WHIP) should. However, Houston Astros righty Hunter Brown leads all of baseball in ERA, holding a 1.82 mark. 7: Pittsburgh Pirates ace Paul Skenes seems to have a strong chance to be the first pitcher to start back-to-back All-Star games in seven years. He leads the NL in ERA (1.94), second in WHIP (0.92) and fourth in strikeouts (125). 51: Athletics shortstop Jacob Wilson has been a revelation as a rookie in 2025, holding the second-best batting average in baseball (.335) as of Monday. His inclusion as a starter made him the first A's shortstop to earn a starting All-Star nod since Bert Campaneris in 1974, 51 years ago. He's also just the third A's player to be named an All-Star starter since 1993, while he's the first rookie ever to be a fan-elected starter at shortstop. 3: Staying in California, the strength of the San Francisco Giants' pitching staff was on display with the announcement of Sunday's All-Star rosters. Starters Logan Webb and Robbie Ray were named All-Stars, with reliever Randy Rodriguez joining them. They were the only team to have three pitchers named to the All-Star roster, while no other team had even two starting pitchers named to an All-Star roster. 19: A total of 19 players were named All-Stars for the first time in their careers this past week. 52: The Milwaukee Brewers were the team with the most wins to only have one player named to the All-Star roster. Starting pitcher Freddy Peralta will be the Brewers' lone representative in Atlanta. Want great stories delivered right to your inbox? 8 Rams players make Bleacher Report's divisional all-star team

NFL Pro Bowl and All-Pro rosters aren't broken down divisionally, but Bleacher Report's Matt Holder decided to take a look at the best players from all eight division rather than just the positions as a whole. Unsurprisingly, eight Rams players made the NFC West divisional all-star team, with six coming from the offensive line and two coming from the defensive side. This, more or less, is how the Rams' roster is skewed heading into the 2025 NFL season. Here are the eight players: Only Stafford is the true obvious pick here, as his only competition in the division is Kyler Murray, Sam Darnold and Brock Purdy. Williams is an interesting choice given that Christian McCaffrey plays for the 49ers, but Williams is more durable and younger. Davante Adams is perhaps the biggest snub of the group, as Holder picked Nacua, the Cardinals' Marvin Harrison Jr. and the Seahawks' Jaxson Smith-Njiba over the veteran pass-catcher. The rest of the group also makes sense, as Avila, Dotson and Havenstein are quality players when healthy, Verse is a dynamo already and Turner is looking like a future stud at defensive tackle relative to the rest of the division. Whether or not any of these players make the actual Pro Bowl or All-Pro list remains to be seen until the 2025 season kicks off. But all eight have a good shot at competing for these personal accolades if they can stay heathly.

Superstars and snubs: Deserving All-Star starters over past full season's stats

The rosters for the 2025 MLB All-Star Game have been announced for the July 15 showcase in Atlanta. And for the most part, the fans (voting for the starters) and MLB (filling out the reserves) got things right. But every year there are some deserving players who don't get invited to the party, despite putting up numbers that prove they belong. Should a player's reputation or a half-season's worth of stats be the primary measuring stick for All-Star recognition? Or would it be better to use an entire season's worth of stats to determine which players really deserve to be honored? That's why we have our own All-Star tradition: the unveiling of our Full-Season All-Stars. With some major assistance from here are the statistical leaders from July 1, 2024 through June 30, 2025. (Players listed at their primary position in 2025 with a minimum of 20 games to qualify. Our selections for AL and NL starters are in bold.) Catcher There's no question who the best catcher in the game is right now. Cal Raleigh leads the majors in home runs this season, but he's not just swinging for the fences. He's getting on base, occasionally stealing them and scoring runs too. His numbers over the past calendar year, especially among his positional peers, are eye-popping: 53 home runs, 121 RBI, 103 runs and 11 stolen bases. No one's even in the same ballpark. It's much closer in the National League, where All-Star starter Will Smith and non-star William Contreras are neck-and-neck. (Mask-and-mask?) Smith has a 16-point edge in batting average, but Contreras tops him in the other four major fantasy categories. First base Vladimir Guerrero Jr. may not be putting up MVP-type numbers this season, but he's been incredibly consistent. His scorching second half in 2024 helped put him far above the AL competition in every offensive category except stolen bases. And he's the only one at the position with more than 100 runs scored over the past calendar year. Once again, the battle is much closer in the NL. Pete Alonso gets the nod over Matt Olson by the slightest of margins. Alonso leads in homers (35 to 32) and runs (91 to 87), while Olson tops all first basemen with 109 RBI (to Alonso's 107). ASG starter Freddie Freeman has a higher batting average, but can't touch either one's power numbers. Second base It's been pretty clear for a while that Ketel Marte is the best second baseman in the majors. Over the past full season, he leads the position in home runs (36), ranks second in RBI (83) and batting average (.300) and fourth in runs scored (84). Brendan Donovan may be his closest NL competition. In the AL, Brandon Lowe stands out. Finally healthy (149 games), Lowe leads all AL second basemen in homers (33), RBI (84) and runs (90) over the past year. Shortstop AL All-Star starter Jacob Wilson tops all shortstops with a .339 average, but Bobby Witt Jr. is second at .317 – in addition to his league-leading 31 homers, 100 RBI and 106 runs. Witt's 30 stolen bases complete the package and put him far ahead of everyone else. Honorable mention: Jeremy Peña, who cracks the position's top 10 in all five categories. Not much separates Francisco Lindor and Elly De La Cruz in the NL. Lindor has a better average (.281 to .273) and more homers (36 to 29), but De La Cruz is ahead in RBI (96 to 94) and he pulls away with big margins in steals (49 to 27) and runs (117 to 105). Third base Even at age 32, Jose Ramirez continues to put up stellar numbers. He very nearly makes it a clean sweep in the AL with a .293 average, 29 homers, 92 runs and a whopping 47 steals. The only category Ramirez doesn't come out on top is RBI, where he trails Isaac Paredes 83-80. Alex Bregman also makes a strong showing in everything but steals. In the NL, Manny Machado is a deserving All-Star starter, ranking second overall at the position in average (.288), homers (32) and RBI (107). But look at what Eugenio Suarez has done over the past year. He far outpaces everyone at the hot corner with 50 home runs, 138 RBI and 110 runs. A horrible first half of 2024 obscures what a tremendous offensive force he's been. Outfield Reigning AL MVP Aaron Judge is in a world of his own. Not only does he lead all American Leaguers with 57 home runs 129 RBI and 130 runs scored over the past calendar year, he tops the major leagues with a .343 average over that span as well. But who joins him in the AL outfield? Riley Greene is a deserving starter, ranking highly in average (.287), homers (28) and RBI (96). And Lawrence Butler may have started slowly in 2025, but his full-season numbers (.274, 31 HR, 83 RBI, 100 runs, 27 steals) certainly hold up. In the NL, Corbin Carroll leads Juan Soto 41-40 in homers and 131-120 in RBI. Carroll's 31 steals cement him in the top spot, but Soto certainly deserves a place on the All-Star roster. Jackson Chourio is also deserving, ranking in the overall top 12 in all five statistical categories. Sorry, James Wood and Pete Crow-Armstrong. You have to wait your turn. Also, we can't forget designated hitter Shohei Ohtani, whose 57 home runs over the past full season are tied with Judge for the most in the majors. Ohtani also leads everyone with 149 runs and 54 stolen bases. And despite batting leadoff, he's third in RBI with 122. Pitcher It's easy to recognize dominance when it's displayed so clearly by Tarik Skubal. He's far and away the best pitcher in the game, and the full-season stats bear that out. Skubal is the only one to reach 19 wins and he leads the majors with 254 strikeouts. Throw in a 2.29 ERA and league-leading 0.87 WHIP and the result is a strong candidate for a second consecutive Cy Young award. Elsewhere in the AL, Framber Valdez has 18 wins, a 2.30 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and 209 whiffs. While Jacob deGrom might win on ratios (2.04 ERA, 0.91 WHIP), he cedes the third spot to Carlos Rodon who has 226 K's and 16 wins, despite a slightly higher 3.16 ERA. Zack Wheeler deserves top billing in the NL. He leads the league with 248 whiffs, plus his ratios are equally impressive (2.32 ERA, 0.91 WHIP). Not even broken ribs can keep Chris Sale from making the cut. He remained healthy until late June, giving him enough time to rack up 221 strikeouts to pair with a stellar 2.23 ERA. Wheeler also has 15 wins to Sale's 13. Meanwhile, it's hard to hold Paul Skenes' paltry 11 wins against hm. He has 210 whiffs and ranks second in the NL to Hunter Greene in both ERA (2.02) and WHIP (0.90). Among the closers, Emmanuel Clase's ridiculous finish to 2024 gives him the edge over Josh Hader. Clase trails in saves 45-40, but his 1.91 ERA is nearly a full point lower. In the NL, Ryan Helsley has the best combination of production (8 wins, 35 saves) and effectiveness (2.35 ERA).
