Centre conducts over 9,700 cybersecurity audits of critical sectors like power, banking
The government remains conscious of the cyber threats to India's digital and physical infrastructure.
'The policies of government of India are aimed at ensuring a safe, trusted, and accountable cyberspace for all users. Multiple initiatives have been undertaken to secure critical infrastructure sectors such as power, transport or banking for their uninterrupted and safe functioning,' said Minister of State for Electronics and IT, Jitin Prasada, in the Rajya Sabha.
CERT-in has empaneled 200 cybersecurity organisations for carrying out these audits.
The cyber agency issues the necessary guidelines for setting up of State/sectoral Computer Security Incident Response Teams (CSIRTs). Sector-specific CSIRTs, such as CSIRT in Finance sector (CSIRT-Fin) and CSIRT in Power sector (CSIRT-Power), are operational to coordinate cyber security issues and improve cyber resilience within respective sectors.
The Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC) has developed a range of indigenous cyber security tools in mobile security, forensics, log collection and analytics, etc. to reduce reliance on foreign solutions, said the minister.
CERT-In has formulated a Cyber Crisis Management Plan (CCMP) for all government bodies to counter cyber-attacks and cyber-terrorism. CCMP provides strategic framework to coordinate recovery from cyber-crisis and enhance resilience.
In addition, guideline documents and templates have been published to assist development and implementation of state-level/sectoral Crisis Management Plans.
CERT-In also regularly conducts workshops for government bodies and key organisations to sensitise them about the cyber security threat landscape and enabling them to prepare and implement the CCMP. So far, 205 such CCMP workshops have been conducted.

78% of Nvidia staff are millionaires, half worth over $25 million — Guess who checks their salaries every year?
Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang recently revealed that he still reviews the salaries of all 42,000 of his employees, as a survey showed that around 78 per cent workers of the AI chipmaking company are millionaires. In a recent podcast, Huang said that his practice of reviewing the salaries of employees is part of his management strategy, which has even helped top Nvidia executives. The billionaire CEO said he finds time to review the salaries of Nvidia employees despite his busy schedule. Jensen Huang's dedication is perhaps the reason why a large chunk of his employees are millionaires. In the All-In podcast, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang stated that he reviews his employees' salaries at the end of each cycle. 'I review everybody's compensation, up to this day, at the end of every cycle. They send me everybody's recommended comp. I go through the whole company. I sort through all 42,000 employees, and 100% of the time I increase the company's spend on opex.' 'If you take care of people, everything else takes care of itself,' he added. Huang noted that he seeks to pay his workers handsomely, and his strategy has worked well with the company's leadership as well. 'I've created more billionaires on my management team than any CEO in the world. They're doing just fine. Don't feel sad for anybody at my layer.' Huang was pushed to the presigious list of top 10 billionaires in the world following a recent stock surge of Nvidia. Meanwhile, financial analyst Jesse Cohen shared a survey that revealed that 76-78 per cent Nvidia employees are millionaires. Sharing a screenshot of a Reddit post on the survey, Cohen said on X, 'Wild Stat of the Day: 76-78% of Nvidia employees are now millionaires, with approximately 50% having a net worth over $25 million.' The survey, conducted among 3,000 Nvidia employees, showed that they benefitted from the employee stock purchase programme that allows them to buy Nvidia stocks at a discount of 15 per cent. Nvidia share price has surged nearly 3,800 per cent since 2019, allowing employees to increase their wealth.

India is well-equipped to tackle evolving online harms and cyber crimes: Minister
New Delhi: The government is conscious of the threats posed by deepfakes powered by Artificial Intelligence ( AI ), including synthetic audio, video and text. Such content can seriously impact a person's dignity, reputation, and right to privacy. It also raises concerns about platform accountability, the Parliament was informed on Friday. To ensure an open, safe, trusted and accountable cyberspace for users, Government of India has enacted laws such as the information of technology act, 2000 (IT Act), Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021 ("IT Rules, 2021"), Digital Personal Data Protection Act , 2023 ("DPDP Act") and other that address various aspects of the deepfake challenge, Jitin Prasada , Union Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology, said in a reply in Rajya Sabha. The Information Technology Act, 2000, provides the foundation to act against identity theft, impersonation, privacy breaches, and the spread of obscene or misleading content. The IT Rules, 2021, amended in 2022 and 2023, mandate platforms to exercise due diligence, remove unlawful content promptly, and increase user awareness around deepfakes and misinformation. The Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, further strengthens safeguards by penalising misuse of personal data, while the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, introduces stricter provisions against the spread of disinformation and organised cybercrimes. According to the minister, to enforce these laws, the government has issued advisories to digital platforms, emphasising the need to remove synthetic content that impersonates individuals, and to inform users about the unreliability of certain AI-generated outputs. Platforms are also directed to comply with grievance redressal timelines, particularly under the Grievance Appellate Committees (GACs) mechanism, the minister said. India's cybercrime response ecosystem is supported by institutions like the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C), the SAHYOG portal for automated takedown notices, and the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal, where citizens can report misuse, including deepfake-related offences. CERT-In, India's cybersecurity agency, continues to issue advisories on AI-related threats, with its latest guidance released in November 2024. Awareness campaigns like Cyber Jagrookta Diwas and Cyber Security Awareness Month further empower citizens to stay vigilant against digital threats.
