Nintendo just dropped a boatload of Switch 2 news, including the release date, price and a launch title or two. It also announced a bevy of accessories that'll be available for the console on June 5. Let's go over the most notable of these doodads.
For my money, the Nintendo Switch 2 Camera is the highlight here. This was featured heavily in the company's livestream, as the Switch 2 will allow for in-game video chat. This is thanks to the magical 'C' button on the right Joy-Con controller. The camera will also shrink down your head to use as a live avatar in certain games. It costs $50.
It wouldn't be a Nintendo console without a pro controller. The Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller will cost $80, but it includes the aforementioned 'C' button, a screen capture button, an audio jack and HD rumble 2. It also allows for motion controls and Amiibo functionality. The GL/GR buttons can be mapped to suit different playstyles.
The company also announced a dedicated GameCube controller for use with Nintendo Online. It comes in iconic purple and also includes a 'C' button. It charges via USB-C so you won't burn through AA batteries like Wall-E or something. We don't have a price on this yet, but Nintendo did say it's launching with the console. We do know, however, that it's only available to Nintendo Online subscribers.
The Switch 2 is launching with a new Mario Kart game, so you know what that means. The Joy-Con wheel controllers are back. The Joy-Con 2 Wheel ships in a two-pack, which costs $20. The set includes one blue wheel and one red wheel.
There are two official carrying cases. There's one just for the console, for handheld mode, that costs $35. There's also a much larger one that holds everything, including the console, dock, cables and game cards. That one costs $80.
Those are the most interesting items, but Nintendo also announced the usual replacement components. An AC adapter costs $30, while a dock set costs $110. A pair of Joy-Cons will set you back $90 and replacement straps cost $13.

Switch 2 breaks Nintendo record, selling 3.5 million units in 4 days

Nintendo sold more than 3.5 million units of its new Switch 2 console in the four days after it launched, breaking a record for company hardware sales, the Japanese gaming company said on Wednesday. Customers essentially cleared out the stock Nintendo had built up over the past months for the market launch in just a few days after June 5. Some online retailers are now quoting waiting times of up to two months. In early May, Nintendo set a sales target of approximately 15 million Switch 2 consoles by the end of the current fiscal year in March 2026. Some market experts consider this forecast cautious given the high demand for the device. However, Nintendo chief executive Shuntaro Furukawa assured at the time that its prediction was not influenced by any limits on production capacity. It is not unusual for there to be a rush for gaming consoles at launch, with sales quickly normalising afterwards. However, the Switch 2 is the console upgrade that many Nintendo fans have long been waiting for, arriving more than eight years after the release of the original. The rapid sell-out is also a positive sign for Nintendo, as the Switch 2 is significantly more expensive than the original model, with a higher launch price of $450/€470 or $499/€509 with the flagship game "Mark Kart World". The new Nintendo console is also being released at a time of change in the gaming industry. Many users are turning to game streaming, where games run on servers online and are transmitted to devices like televisions over fast internet connections. Nintendo, however, is for the time being committing itself to games with the company's popular characters, such as Super Mario, only running on its own consoles. With this approach, the Japanese company has sold more than 150 million units of various Switch console models. A key factor in this success is that the devices can be used both on the go and connected to a television. However, with more elaborately designed new games, it has recently become evident that the original Switch is reaching its technical limits.

American Black Film Festival is in Miami. Here are some films to check out

As the pandemic forced a global shutdown halting businesses, communities and touching every aspect of how society functioned in 2020, a pivotal election was brewing across the U.S. — one that would have a major effect on southern states. And as that chaos brewed, Black Voters Matter decided to meet the moment. Their efforts to energize and register voters is chronicled in a new documentary, 'Love, Joy & Power: Tools For Liberation.' That story is one of several films screening at the American Black Film Festival when it rolls into town this week highlighting Black storytellers and providing resources for those in the filmmaking industry. Black Voters Matter co-founder Cliff Albright said the film is a story about overcoming, pointing out the significance of the film's debut close to Juneteenth. 'It's not just the story of 2020 or the story of Black Voters Matters, it's really a story of how we have historically overcome, including going back to just Juneteenth,' he told the Herald. 'It shows the work that we're doing, but it also shows what movement is really like.' The film's timing is not lost on Albright, who said the story is essential at a time when Black stories and how they are shared is either being banned or altered in schools and libraries. 'Liberation' is just one of the films ABFF attendees can see when it kicks of Wednesday. We've put together a few more for you all to check out: 'Love, Joy & Power: Tools For Liberation' In this documentary, readers are taken on a journey through the efforts of Black Voters Matter to turn Georgia 'purple' in the 2020 election through grassroots voting efforts across the South, including Florida. The film, directed by Daresha Kyi, will screen at 1:10 p.m. Thursday at O Cinema. 'The ReWrite.' What is an authentic Black voice? That's what screenwriter Elliot (Stephen Barrington) obsesses over after he is told by white executives how Black people should sound and act. He wrestles with this as he tries to find the balance between being authentic and making money. 'I just want to sell without selling out,' he says. The film, directed by Terry Dawson, debuts at ABFF at 2:15 p.m. Thursday at Miami Beach Convention Center in Screening Room #2. 'Wait Until Tomorrow' The intersection of race, wealth and opportunity take center stage in this documentary that follows the lives of various Black families in the United States. The stories drive home the realities behind data examining the search for economic mobility. Directed by Osato Dixon will show at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at O Cinema. 'Carnival: They Can't Steal Our Joy' The colors. The beads. The feathers. The sounds. These are some of the things that make up Caribbean Carnival. But Ian Mark Kimanje's film, 'Carnival: They Can't Steal Our Joy,' pulls back the layers of the festival's significance culturally and historically in Toronto and beyond. Making its U.S. premier, the film will screen at O Cinema at 10:30 a.m. Saturday.

Nintendo Switch 2 smashes record as company's fastest-selling console

Japan's Nintendo said on Wednesday it had sold more than 3.5 million Switch 2 units in the first four days after its launch, making the console the company's fastest-selling gaming device to date. Last month, the Kyoto-based company forecast Switch 2 sales would reach 15 million during the current financial year ending next March. 'Fans around the world are showing their enthusiasm for Nintendo Switch 2 as an upgraded way to play at home and on the go,' Nintendo of America President and Chief Operating Officer Doug Bowser said in a statement. The more powerful second-generation version, which went on sale on June 5, bears many similarities with its predecessor but offers a larger screen and improved graphics. It is sold with titles including 'Mario Kart World.'
