Nintendo Switch 2 smashes record as company's fastest-selling console
Japan's Nintendo said on Wednesday it had sold more than 3.5 million Switch 2 units in the first four days after its launch, making the console the company's fastest-selling gaming device to date.
Last month, the Kyoto-based company forecast Switch 2 sales would reach 15 million during the current financial year ending next March.
'Fans around the world are showing their enthusiasm for Nintendo Switch 2 as an upgraded way to play at home and on the go,' Nintendo of America President and Chief Operating Officer Doug Bowser said in a statement.

Nintendo has sold 152 million Switch devices since it was first launched in 2017, creating a games juggernaut with titles including 'The Legend of Zelda' and COVID-19 pandemic breakout hit 'Animal Crossing: New Horizons.'
The more powerful second-generation version, which went on sale on June 5, bears many similarities with its predecessor but offers a larger screen and improved graphics. It is sold with titles including 'Mario Kart World.'

Barbie-maker Mattel teams up with OpenAI, eyes first AI-powered product this year
(Reuters) -Mattel has teamed up with OpenAI to develop toys and games with artificial intelligence, and expects to launch its first AI-powered product later this year, the Barbie-maker said on Thursday. The company, which also makes Hot Wheels and Uno cards, plans to "bring the magic of AI to age-appropriate play experiences with an emphasis on innovation, privacy, and safety," it said. The move comes at a time when toy manufacturers are battling muted demand backdrop as consumers rein in spending to brace for the economic fallout of U.S. President Trump's shifting trade policy. Mattel will also incorporate OpenAI's advanced AI tools like ChatGPT Enterprise into its business operations to enhance product innovation, the company said. "With OpenAI, Mattel has access to an advanced set of AIcapabilities alongside new tools to enable productivity, creativity, and company-wide transformation at scale," said OpenAI operating chief Brad Lightcap. Over the last year, Mattel has relied on producing films, TV shows and mobile games based on its products such as Hot Wheels and Barbie to offset a slowdown in its core toy business. Brooklyn teacher nabs Tony for theatre education excellence
All the classroom's a stage. A Bed-Stuy theater teacher won a special Tony award last Sunday for helping bring the joy of Broadway to generations of students — becoming the first in New York to nab the prestigious title. Gary Edwin Robinson took home the 2025 Excellence in Theatre Education Award at last weekend's Tony ceremony for expanding theater access to thousands of students at Boys and Girls High School. Robinson was nothing short of 'shocked' when he heard the news that he would be this year's recipient — and even three days after the ceremony, the excitement was still settling in.
