Rajesh Kumar Calls Saiyaara Story ‘Very Close' To Him As His Mother Battles Alzheimer's: ‘I See My Father…'
Rajesh Kumar played Aneet Padda's father in YRF's recently released film Saiyaara. The movie is gaining widespread acclaim from both moviegoers and critics alike. As the film continues to grow at the box office and win over audiences, Rajesh Kumar opens up about how the story is 'very close" to him in real life, as his own mother suffers from Alzheimer's.
Speaking to Zoom, Kumar said, '(It was) the belief in YRF and the belief in Mohit. I did not have any third choice with me. The whole thing was the uniqueness of the story when it was narrated. Because in real life, my mother is suffering from that illness."
'It is such a silent thing you suffer," he added. 'Because I see my father — he's not vocal about the suffering he has, about his partner being in that way. So, it was very close to reality for me. I think I tried to portray that emotion. It was a very well-crafted script, and everything just fell into place. When things are supposed to happen, I guess this is how it happens."
About Saiyaara Box-office
Meanwhile, romantic dramas rarely pull off the kind of box office mayhem that Saiyaara is creating right now. But here we are. Nine days in, and Mohit Suri's latest film has already crossed the ₹300 crore mark worldwide — a milestone that puts it firmly in the big leagues of 2025.
After a record-breaking first week, Saiyaara isn't showing any signs of slowing down. The film kicked off its second weekend with a strong Friday, collecting over ₹30 crores globally, including its first million-dollar day overseas, which is almost unheard of for a debut-led love story.
Saiyaara revolves around Krish Kapoor (Ahaan Panday), an aspiring singer, and Vaani Batra, a budding journalist. As their love blossoms, they find themselves up against numerous odds. Set to a soundtrack that's already winning hearts, the film blends romance, ambition, and emotional drama.
About Rajesh Kumar
On the work front, Rajesh Kumar is one of the most acclaimed actors. While he has earned praise for his supporting roles in films like Hum Saath-Saath Hain, his contribution to Indian television is widely appreciated. The actor received widespread acclaim for his role as Roshesh Sarabhai in the iconic sitcom Sarabhai vs Sarabhai.

(Also read: Son of Sardaar 2 vs Dhadak 2 box office clash: Can Siddhant Chaturvedi, Triptii Dimri romance spoil Ajay Devgn's party?) Dhadak 2 box office collection day 3: Siddhant Chaturvedi and Triptii Dimri in a still from the film. Dhadak 2 box office update The latest update on Sacnilk states that Dhadak 2 collected ₹ 3.77 crore on its third day of release. The film had collected ₹ 3.5 crore on its opening day, and showed little growth on its second day of release, collecting ₹ 3.75 crore. The overall collection now stands at ₹ 11.02 crore. Dhadak 2 is facing stiff competition at the box office from several releases—Ajay Devgn's Son of Sardaar 2, the animation film Mahavatar Narsimha, Ahaan Panday-Aneet Padda's Saiyaara, and Vijay Deverakonda's Kingdom. Saiyaara, now in its third week of release, collected more than Dhadak 2 on Sunday, with ₹8 crore. Saiyaara has now crossed the ₹300 crore mark in India and emerged as a blockbuster. About Dhadak 2 Dhadak 2 tells the tale of a law student who falls for his classmate, only for her family to harass him due to caste differences. Talking about the film's sensitive message, Triptii told PTI, 'It should reach the maximum audience because it's entertaining and also leaves a little note, so that is something which we are constantly looking for. We found that equilibrium... There is something real and sensitive about it ('Dhadak 2'). All of these guys have more responsibility, and they are very well aware of that. That's why they have been very quiet about everything, like while we were shooting for the film, even the censor board issues, we never spoke about anything.'
