West Bengal Livelihood and Social Security Interim Scheme
, which seeks to give sacked group C and group D employees monthly grants, CM

announced.Through this, Group C and D employees will receive a grant of Rs 25,000 and Rs 20,000 respectively from April 1, 2025, until the Supreme Court decides on Bengal govt's review petition against the apex court's order terminating the employment of 25,752 school staffers.
"The disbursement will start now. Many might not want the money, but that is their personal choice. When the chief secretary had a meeting with them (candidates), I had made this announcement; and from today, it has been implemented," Banerjee told reporters. The CM said: "Group C and D employees were not getting their salaries and were facing problems in running their households. The (SSC) case is sub judice and pending in court. We have filed a review petition. Whatever the court decides, we will abide by it. But since these people are facing financial distress, we made an announcement a few days ago that we are launching a scheme. We launched the scheme because there are PILs filed at every step... With the permission of the cabinet and under the labour department, we have launched the West Bengal Livelihood and Social Security Interim Scheme."Koushik Ranjan Mandal, one of the school staffers whose employment was terminated, said he felt relieved but wanted his job back. "Allowance is not the solution. I appreciate this move by the CM. However, it's still an announcement, we want to see the concrete result of it. State govt should take a positive step to bring back our jobs," he said.

AAP govt installing anti-drone system at Punjab borders after Centre refused to do so, says Dhaliwal
Punjab NRI Affairs Minister and Ajnala MLA Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal Monday said that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government was installing its own anti-drone system at Punjab borders to stop influx of drugs 'after the BJP-led Central government refused to do so'. Addressing a press conference in Ludhiana in the run-up to Ludhiana West by-election slated for June 19, Dhaliwal said that instead of questioning the AAP over drugs, the BJP should first answer what it has done to stop drug influx in Punjab despite ruling at the Centre since 2014. Dhaliwal said that time and again Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann requested the Centre to get an anti-drone system installed at Punjab borders to stop drug influx from Pakistan but 'BJP did not do so'. 'Finally, the AAP government passed its own budget of Rs 52 crore to get the anti-drone system installed to stop drug influx from Pakistan,' said the minister. Dhaliwal said that he will be sending a legal notice for defamation to BJP's state general secretary Anil Sarin if he 'doesn't withdraw his statement' against him on drugs. At a press conference in Ludhiana Monday, BJP's Sarin had said that drugs were not being eliminated from Punjab as 'AAP leaders were hands in glove with suppliers'. Sarin said that not a single 'big supplier' has been arrested under the AAP government's anti-drug drive 'Yuddh Nasheyan Virudh' (War against drugs). Sarin said that on May 28, the Ajnala police had arrested two men for supplying drugs but 'minister Kuldeep Dhaliwal reached the police station to help them'. Sarin said that Dhaliwal ordered the police to 'send the arrested men to a rehabilitation centre whereas the FIR was registered against them for supplying drugs'. 'Who gave Dhaliwal this right to send suppliers to rehab?' Sarin had questioned. Denying the allegations, Dhaliwal said that either Sarin should withdraw his statement as soon as possible or he should be ready to answer the court. He accused Sarin of making 'misleading claims' to tarnish his public image, as 'the facts are exactly the opposite of what was stated'. Dhaliwal said that on May 28, the Ajnala police arrested six-seven people from Lakhowal village in his constituency for drug offence under the NDPS Act. The next day, villagers told him that two of them arrested were caught unfairly. 'The villagers claimed that they were drug addicts but do not sell them. One of those boys had returned from a rehabilitation centre just a day earlier. I went to the police station. I asked whether these two boys were drug users or sellers. The SHO said he would investigate and inform the next day,' said Dhaliwal. Dhaliwal said that he had instructed the SHO that if they were just drug addicts, they should be sent to a rehabilitation centre for treatment. The following day, the SHO sent both young men to rehab. 'Meanwhile, the SHO informed that both men had also sold some drug in small quantity. I immediately told him that they their names should be included in the FIR, and they should be arrested too. They are now in jail. I only did what our government has decided — that those who are addicts will be given medical treatment too, and those who deserve punishment will also be punished,' said Dhaliwal, while showing a copy of the FIR. He said that BJP and Akali Dal leaders do not understand the pain of drugs because their families have never been affected by it. 'But my own family has gone through this pain. My 32-year-old nephew died of a drug overdose in 2013. Upon hearing the news, I returned to India from abroad and decided to stay here. Even today, my mother and sister-in-law often cry while mentioning his name,' said the minister. 'BJP leader Sarin has levelled a grave allegation against me, and he should now be ready for legal action,' he said. He said that when drugs were being sold in large quantities during the Akali-BJP government, then Punjab Police ADGP Shashikant had launched an anti-drug campaign, which he had supported by organising a large rally with him at his village. He said that when the AAP government launched the 'War Against Drugs' campaign, they stated clearly that action will be taken against those who sell drugs, while those who are drug addicts will be treated not as criminals but as patients requiring proper treatment. 'Our goal is to eradicate drugs, which requires distinguishing between sellers and users, and taking action accordingly,' he added. 'All that BJP knows is to blame and accuse AAP. First, they should answer what they have done for Punjab, either it's drugs or water. Several times our CM Bhagwant Mann told the Centre to get an anti-drone system installed at Punjab's borders as drugs are supplied in border districts from Pakistan. We had asked them as 50 km jurisdiction inside Punjab near the international border is that of BSF. Every night our police and BSF are on vigil to stop drugs coming from Pakistan. But when the BJP government did not do anything, we passed our own budget of Rs 58 crore to get the anti-drone system in place,' said Dhaliwal. On allegations that 'no big fish' has been caught during the AAP government's anti-drug drive, Dhaliwal said: 'I don't know what size of magarmachh (crocodile) is being talked about here. Crocodiles we have caught can be big or small in size but all I can assure is that we have arrested only those persons who were actually into drug trade. No poor or innocent has been caught.'

It is gladdening to see how the people of India have come together with the resolve of making India stronger." Modi shared a thread from a government's citizen engagement platform, which highlighted the changes in different areas as the prime minister completed 11 years in office on Tuesday. In just 11 years under Modi's visionary leadership, India has revolutionised its defence capabilities, deepened strategic global partnerships, and achieved historic milestones in space exploration, it said. Guided by his resolve for 'Aatmanirbhar Bharat', the nation has embraced self-reliant innovation and expanded its influence in trade and technology, it added. "India's Rise in 11 Years: Power, Partnerships, and Progress," it said, putting out the government's initiatives and subsequent changes in different fields. India's defence exports have soared to Rs 23,622 crore in 2024-25 from Rs 1,940 crore in 2014-15, the post said, noting the country also unveiled its first indigenous aircraft carrier in INS Vikrant. It said, "This is the story of India's rise as a confident, decisive, and respected global leader driven by PM Modi's bold vision and unwavering commitment to a stronger Bharat." India's missile power had its precision and reach elevated, it said, mentioning Brahmos extended range version, which was successfully test-fired from Su-30 MKI, among others. The threat also highlighted India's robust ties with other countries, noting the inking of its "historic" trade deal with the UK and comprehensive economic power agreement with the UAE. Highlighting India's commitment to global peace, it said the country stands as a leading force in UN peacekeeping, with over 2.9 lakh troops deployed across 50 missions worldwide. During the pandemic, India also provided two lakh COVID-19 vaccine doses to UN peacekeepers, supporting health and safety on the frontlines of peace, it added.

"Matter of great pride for Haryana": Nayab Singh Saini on Hisar-Chandigarh air service
Chandigarh (Haryana) [India], June 10 (ANI): Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini travelled in the inaugural flight from Chandigarh to Hisar on Monday. The Chief Minister called the launch of the new air service a 'matter of great pride for Haryana' and said it would boost development and accessibility in the region. Speaking to the mediapersons after the flight, Saini said, 'Under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi, the country has taken a big leap of development. Work has been done with progress... Today, the work of connecting Hisar to Chandigarh has been done; this is a matter of great pride for Haryana.' The new air service has been scheduled to run twice a week, providing a faster travel option between the state's capital and one of its major cities. The Chief Minister added, 'This flight will run two days a week and our people will get a lot of benefit from it. This is an important step in the direction of the resolution taken by Prime Minister Modi that even a person wearing slippers can travel by air.' He also hinted at future expansion of the service, saying, 'In the coming time, more flights will start from Hisar.' Earlier on Friday, the Chief Minister also announced a series of development projects worth crores of rupees for the Palwal assembly segment, covering sectors such as sports and education. The projects will also boost civic amenities for the region. Addressing a public meeting in Palwal, the Chief Minister announced that an international-level modern sports complex will be constructed in Palwal. In addition, the local indoor stadium will be upgraded with soundproofing for Rs 55 lakh. He also announced Rs 50 crore for the development of basic infrastructure such as parking facilities, rainwater drainage, sewerage systems, and water supply in Sector-21, Transport Nagar. The Chief Minister also announced that 75 roads covering 152 km in the Palwal assembly constituency are currently under warranty and will be repaired by the concerned agencies. In addition, Rs 37.57 crore was sanctioned for repairing eight roads spanning 37.5 km, and Rs 40.18 crore for renovating 26 roads covering a length of 54.5 km. The release mentioned that among other key announcements were Rs 50 lakh for remodelling the Janauli distributors and Rs 13 crore for constructing a VR bridge in five villages. He also announced a 66 KV substation in Mustafabad and a 220 KV substation in the Line Par area of Palwal, subject to land availability. The Chief Minister also announced opening two new schools in Palwal city, following departmental norms and land availability. He announced that a new grain market would be set up outside Palwal city, upon land availability. In Wards 1 to 10, the kutcha streets in residential colonies will be paved. An allocation of Rs 5 crore was announced to construct community centres in villages across the Palwal assembly constituency. (ANI)
