Official Receiver and Glencore strike crucial Lindsey oil supply deal
Sky News has learnt that the OR - which oversees the initial stages of bankruptcies ordered by a court - struck an agreement with Glencore in the early hours of Friday morning.
Further details of the arrangement were unclear.
The deal provides a temporary lifeline to the Lindsey refinery in Lincolnshire while the OR and special manager FTI Consulting race to secure the site's longer term future.
The plant - one of only a handful of oil refineries still operating in the UK - was owned by Prax Group, whose main subsidiary, State Oil, and other entities collapsed into insolvency proceedings on Monday.
Prax Group, which also spans oilfield exploration and fuel retailing, is owned by a husband-and-wife team whose conduct is now the subject of an Insolvency Service investigation.
Ed Miliband, the energy security secretary, ordered the probe after the government was left blindsided by Prax's financial woes.
Industry sources are sceptical that a buyer will be found for Lindsey, which could put hundreds of jobs at risk.
Glencore has security over crude oil supplied to the site, although the distribution of finished product is now the responsibility of the OR.

ONS: Rental property in Northern Ireland 'less affordable since 2020'
Private rental accommodation in Northern Ireland has become less affordable since 2020, new analysis from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) Northern Ireland still remains one of the most affordable UK regions for ONS study looks at what proportion of a typical household income is required for the rent on an average 2020 it was just under 22% but by 2024 it had risen to 25.3%, as rents increased more rapidly than pay in that period. The ONS defines an area as "affordable" if a private-renting household would spend the equivalent of 30% or less of their income on regions of the UK were more affordable than NI in 2024: the North East of England with a rent-to-income ratio of 19.8% and the East Midlands with 24.4%.All other English regions were less affordable with London's ratio at almost 42%. Britain cancels extra border checks for animals ahead of UK-EU deal
LONDON, Aug 18 (Reuters) - Britain is suspending the previously planned introduction of extra border checks on live animal imports from the European Union to ease trade ahead of the implementation of a deal agreed in May to reduce friction, the UK government said on Monday. Extra border checks on some animal and plant goods imported from Ireland will also be suspended. May's sanitary and phytosanitary (SPS) deal, part of a wider reset in UK-EU relations, will reduce paperwork and remove routine border checks on plant and animal products moving between the UK and EU, while maintaining high food standards. However, the deal is yet to be implemented as details are still being negotiated. In the meantime, British traders must continue to comply with the terms of the UK's Border Target Operating Model (BTOM) that protect the country's biosecurity, including existing checks. The suspension of the introduction of additional border checks follows the announcement in June that checks on EU fruit and vegetable imports had been scrapped. A spokesperson for the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs could not give a timeline for implementation of the SPS deal. When Britain left the EU's single market in 2021, the EU immediately enforced its rules, leading to port delays and prompting some British exporters to stop selling to the bloc. Britain was much slower implementing its post-Brexit border arrangements, and after repeated delays and confusion it started to set new rules in phases from January last year.
