Iran, European powers hold nuclear talks in Turkey
Iran met with European powers yesterday to discuss its nuclear negotiations with Washington, while US President Donald Trump issued a new threat unless the Iranians 'move quickly' towards a deal.
The meeting in Istanbul followed remarks by Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi warning of 'irreversible' consequences if Britain, France and Germany move to reimpose United Nations sanctions that were lifted under a landmark 2015 agreement.
Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi, who attended the talks in the Turkish city, said in a post on X: 'We exchanged views and discussed the latest status of the indirect nuclear negotiations and the lifting of sanctions.'
Gharibabadi said that if necessary, Tehran would meet again with the so-called E3 -- the European parties to the 2015 deal along with China, Russia and the United States -- to continue discussions, after several meetings since last year. Trump had effectively torpedoed the deal during his first term, by unilaterally abandoning it in 2018 and reimposing sanctions on Iran's banking sector and oil exports.
A year later, Iran responded by rolling back its own commitments under the deal, which provided relief from sanctions in return for UN-monitored restrictions on Iran's nuclear activities. Speaking yesterday in Abu Dhabi, Trump said that his administration had handed Iran a proposal for a new agreement, after four rounds of negotiations in recent weeks.
'They know they have to move quickly or something bad is going to happen,' Trump said.
The Oman-mediated Iran-US talks were the highest-level contact between the two foes since Washington abandoned the nuclear accord.
Araghchi had earlier denied a report about a draft agreement, saying 'we have not been given anything'.
The three European powers have been weighing whether to trigger the 2015 deal's 'snapback' mechanism, which would reinstate UN sanctions in response to Iranian non-compliance -- an option that expires in October.

Trump tells ABC 'it's possible' US gets involved in Iran-Israel conflict
President Donald Trump told a news network Sunday the United States could become involved in the Iran-Israel conflict, and that he would be "open" to his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin being a mediator. The Republican president, according to ABC News, also said talks over Iran's nuclear program were continuing and that Tehran would "like to make a deal," perhaps more quickly now that the Islamic republic is trading massive strikes with Israel. "It's possible we could get involved" in the ongoing battle between the Middle East archfoes, Trump said in an off-camera interview with ABC News senior political correspondent Rachel Scott that was not previously publicized. He stressed that the United States is "not at this moment" involved in the military action. As for Putin being a potential mediator in the conflict, "he is ready. He called me about it. We had a long talk about it," Trump said. Israel and Iran traded heavy aerial assaults for a third straight day Sunday, with casualties mounting following Israel's large-scale attacks aimed at crippling Iran's nuclear and military in- frastructure, sparking retaliation. Oman, which has acted as a mediator on the nuclear issue, has said a sixth round of talks between Iran and the United States planned for this weekend had been cancelled. But Trump said the two sides were continuing discussions. "No, there's no deadline" on negotiations, he told ABC when asked whether there was a time limit for Tehran to come to the table. "But they are talking. They'd like to make a deal. They're talking. They continue to talk," Trump said, according to Scott. Trump suggested that something like the clash between Israel and Iran "had" to happen to spur talks on a nuclear agreement. It "may have forced a deal to go quicker, actually," Trump said.

Trump pocketed over $57 million from crypto coin sales
US President Donald Trump pocketed more than $57 million from token sales by the crypto venture he and his sons helped launch last year, according to federal financial disclosure forms released by the White House. The more than 230- page document issued by the Office of Government Ethics, dated Friday, lists the US pres- ident's holdings including stocks, dividends, realestate and investmen t portfolios. It showed that Trump, w h o during his first presidential election campaign in 2016 broke with the long tradition of candidates publishing their income tax returns, raked in $57.4 million from the sale of World Liberty Financial tokens. Trump and his sons helped launch the cryptocurrency investment and lending platform ahead of last year's election, raising conflict of interest concerns especially after he went on to win. He lent his name to this new company and launched a 'Trump' memecoin in January, just hours before his inauguration. World Liberty Financial had issued 100 billion tokens, of which some 22.5 billion were allocated to the Trump-affiliated company DT Marks Defi. Once hostile to the crypto industry, Trump has since returning to power enthusiastically embraced the sector, taking significant steps to clear regulatory hurdles and making large-scale investments. Trump has, among other moves, appointed crypto advocate Paul Atkins to head the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). He has also established a federal 'Strategic Bitcoin Reserve' aimed at auditing the government's bitcoin holdings, which were mainly accumulated by law enforcement from judicial seizures. Cryptocurrencies now have 'a champion and an ally' in the White House, Vice President JD Vance said last month during a bitcoin conference in Las Vegas. The document also provides an overview of the royalties that Trump has received through the sale of branded products and licensing agreements around the world. For instance, he earned $2.8 million from watches and $2.5 million from perfumes and sneakers. His Mar-a-Lago club in Florida also generated over $50 million in income for the president. Trump's golf courses around the world also helped pad his coffers, allowing him to pocket $29.1 million from the one in West Palm Beach, and $110.4 from the one in Miami. The president also received a monthly retirement payment of $6,484 from the Screen Actors Guild (SAG).

Iran hits Tel Aviv after overnight Israeli strikes on Tehran
Iran unleashed a barrage of missile strikes on Israeli cities early Monday, after Israel struck military targets deep inside Iran, with both sides threatening further devastation. AFP images showed gutted residential buildings in Tel Aviv and fires smouldering outside the coastal city of Haifa, after Israel's army warned people to take cover from incoming Iranian missiles. In Jerusalem, an AFP journalist heard loud explosions, while footage showed Israeli air defences lighting up the night sky. After decades of enmity and a prolonged shadow war fought through proxies and covert operations, Israel's surprise assault on Iran last week has touched off the most intense fighting yet and triggered fears of a lengthy conflict that could engulf the Middle East. Israel says its attacks have hit military and nuclear facilities, and killed many top commanders and atomic scientists -- but a senior US official said Sunday that US President Donald Trump told Israel to back down from a plan to kill supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Trump has urged the foes to "make a deal", but told reporters Sunday that "sometimes they have to fight it out" first. Monday's Iranian missile attack followed Israeli strikes in central Iran, which Israel's army said targeted surface-to-surface missile sites. Iran's Revolutionary Guards, in a statement quoted by the official IRNA news agency, said Monday they had "successfully" struck Israel and vowed "effective, targeted and more devastating operations" to come. Israel's Magen David Adom emergency service said five people had been killed and 92 wounded following the latest Iranian attack.
