New Apple ‘Lessons' Ad Highlights Student Learning As Mac Sales Grow In India

Apple Lessons ad Apple Apple MacBooks are arguably one of the best options for students, and the Cupertino giant is highlighting this in its new ad for India. Released on June 4, the new Lessons ad focuses on how students can use a Mac to 'level up' and make the most of their studies. This comes at a time when M4 Mac sales have seen double-digit growth in a quarter. The new Lessons ad encourages students to try different approaches to learning instead of mugging up answers. It showcases a few Apple Intelligence features like Summary in Writing Tools to turn a lengthy note into short bullet points, and how the MacBook Air M4 allows students to run multiple engineering applications, including AutoCAD, MATLAB, and more simultaneously. According to a report from Counterpoint, Apple saw 17% YoY growth in the global PC market shipments in Q1 2025. It was driven by M4 series Macs. In India, Apple had a 6% PC market share with 29% growth in 2024. The Cupertino tech giant has seen very strong momentum for its MacBook sales in the country—and there are various reasons for it. 'Education as a segment is increasing. Young professionals and even young students are opting for Macs, especially after the launch of their M series chipsets, because a lot of people believe and correlate that to performance and efficiency gains, which they offer,' says Tarun Pathik, Research Director at Counterpoint. The consumer financing and discounts on Apple products are also playing a major part in MacBook adoption in India. 'That [consumer financing and discounts] is one of the reasons why iPhone sales are growing in India at one of the fastest rates in the world,' he added. 'And this has led to an increase in Mac sales. We have always seen a very healthy step-by-step entry into the Apple ecosystem.' The first point of entry into the Apple ecosystem is the iPhone, which is followed by the AirPods, Apple Watch, iPad, and eventually a Mac. 'We are seeing that transition of such users who entered through iPhone a couple of years back and now they are reaching the level three or four to buy a Mac,' explains Pathik. While Apple is focusing on the education segment with its new ad, the Cupertino giant is also forming corporate partnerships that have contributed to its Mac growth. 'Indian companies like Zoho and Wipro have integrated Macs into their operations, which has increased Apple's enterprise adoption,' he said. With education and enterprise both driving momentum, Apple's Mac strategy in India seems to be working. The new Lessons ad is a timely push to deepen that growth.

3 gold price questions that investors should be asking now

Investors considering gold should start contemplating the answers to three primary questions right now. Getty Images/iStockphoto The price of gold has been in the news so frequently in recent months that investors may have become immune to developments. But it's important to take a step back to fully appreciate how remarkable the price surge has been just since the start of 2024. At that point, in early January, the price of the metal per ounce was $2,063.73, having recently surpassed the $2,000 price point. But now, in early June 2025, barely 18 months later, the price for that same amount of metal comfortably sits close to $3,400. That's more than a $1,300 difference or, put another way, the price of gold has risen by around 65% from where it was in early 2024. And many signs are pointing toward another price record increase, perhaps as soon as this June. Against this backdrop, prospective investors may feel leery about getting started in the market. But gold is still a valuable hedge against inflation and a portfolio diversification tool thanks to its steady value. That makes the asset timeless for many investors. So it's still generally worth investing in, even now. To do so in a cost-effective and relatively secure way, however, it helps to go into the process informed and clear-eyed. And that begins with having the answers to some important gold price questions right now. Below, we'll detail three that investors should be asking about. Start protecting your portfolio with gold before the price rises again here. 3 gold price questions that investors should be asking now Here are three timely questions that potential gold investors should be asking about the price of the metal now: Should I wait for the price to drop before investing? It can be tempting to wait for the price of gold (or any asset) to decline before investing. And there may be some small windows of opportunity to do that with gold now. But waiting too long is inherently risky. That's because the price of gold over time, not accounting for minor fluctuations, only tends to rise. Waiting for a cheap time to invest may not make sense considering that it's unlikely to materialize. Waiting also means losing out on the protections gold can provide for your portfolio, which is particularly important to have now considering stock market uncertainty. Waiting comes with risk, then, that may not be worth it if you can still afford a small, but critical, portion of gold to add to your portfolio now. Learn more about gold's price here. When will the price change again? It's impossible to know exactly when the value of any asset will change … but there are some days this June when gold's price could do just that. In particular, when the next inflation report is released or when the Federal Reserve meets again to determine monetary policy, gold's price could respond. Depending on what that report shows for inflation in May or what the central bank says about its plans for interest rates, the price of gold could rise or fall, perhaps to a significant degree. If you already know that you want to invest in gold, then, and are just looking for a smart time to do so, monitor specific dates this June for an opportunity to do just that. What's a safe amount to invest in at today's high price? You can still invest in gold even with the price elevated, either via fractional gold amounts less than an ounce or dollar-cost averaging, in which you invest small amounts of money over a routine basis. That said, you should only do so up to a maximum of 10% of your overall portfolio and, depending on your investor profile and budget, that may be even less than 10%. In other words, you'll need to determine an affordable price point while also adhering to the common advice of limiting your gold investment to permit other, income-producing assets to flourish as intended. What that means in practical terms, however, is that a gold investment today, at the elevated price, may make up less of your overall portfolio than it would have in a cooler price climate. The bottom line While these are critical questions to ask about gold's price now, they're likely not the only ones prospective investors have, especially if they're considering the precious metals market for the first time. So, start by considering the answers to these three questions now but also consider speaking to a financial advisor or gold investing company who can help answer any additional queries you have. With a thorough approach and understanding of the gold investing market now you can better improve your chances of success both through this current price surge and in the months and years ahead.

J.P. Morgan Says the Probability of a Recession Has Fallen: Should You Prepare for One Anyway?

When President Donald Trump announced his sweeping tariff plans a couple of months ago, economists at J.P. Morgan put the probability of a U.S. recession at 60% because of the prospect of a global trade war and skyrocketing prices. Since then, Trump has backed off or delayed many of those plans, and J.P. Morgan has lowered its recession odds to a 'toss-up' and now suggests a recession might not happen at all. But the investment bank still expects the economy to face some rough patches — meaning Americans should probably still prepare for the possibility of recession. 'The recent backtrack on U.S.-China tariffs has altered our thinking in two important ways,' Joseph Lupton, a global economist at J.P. Morgan, noted in a May 27 report. 'First, the size of the tariff tax hike has been scaled down, imparting less of a purchasing power squeeze. Second, the quick unilateral tariff reversal by President Trump is signaling less tolerance for 'short-term pain, long-term gain.'' Check Out: Read Next: As a result, Lupton added, 'We no longer see a U.S. recession, but expect material headwinds to keep growth weak through the rest of this year.' Other brokerages have offered similar views in recent weeks. As Reuters reported on May 13, Goldman Sachs lowered its U.S. recession forecast to 35% from 45%, while Barclays 'dismissed recession risks entirely.' But others still see a challenging environment simply because Trump keeps shifting his tariff plans. '[We've] never had a situation where you have no idea where the average tariff rate is going to be a few months from now,' Pulitzer Prize-winning economist Paul Krugman said in an April interview on Bloomberg Talks. 'This creates an impossible environment for business.' See More: Although experts have lowered the odds of a recession — at least this year — there's nothing wrong with preparing for one anyway. Trump seems determined to keep pursuing tariffs, and many of those tariffs are likely to lead to higher prices and economic uncertainty, experts say. If you're worried about a recession, here are a few ways to prepare: Spend less on nonessentials: This is an especially good strategy during periods of high inflation. Review your budget and determine which items you can cut, then put the extra money toward essentials or savings. Boost your emergency fund: Recessions often lead to layoffs, hiring freezes and pay freezes. This makes it important to build a bigger emergency fund to protect yourself against sudden changes in income or job status. Stick to your investment strategy: The stock markets tend to get rocky during recessions, but that doesn't mean you should make dramatic changes to your strategy. The best way to prepare for a recession is to keep a diversified portfolio that includes stocks, bonds, cash and cash equivalents, and alternative investments such as real estate. Beyond that, you should stay the course with your portfolio to avoid locking in losses or facing tax consequences. Pay down high-interest debt. This is also a good time to pay down credit cards and student loans to ensure you are not stuck with a lot of high-interest debt when a recession rolls around.
