Walmart to restock Nintendo Switch 2 tonight – and members get an exclusive perk

Independent2 days ago

If you've been searching desperately for the Nintendo Switch 2, look no further. Walmart has confirmed the exact time you'll be able to buy the console online, and you don't have long to wait as it will restock later today.
Since launch, the Switch 2 has been flying off the shelves. In the U.S. alone, Nintendo sold 1.1 million units during launch week, breaking the PlayStation 4's long-standing debut record. Globally, it racked up 3.5 million sales in just four days, making it the fastest-selling Nintendo console of all time.
It's been near-impossible to find in stock ever since. Most drops sell out within minutes, and Walmart's restock isn't likely to be any different. If you've been refreshing product pages for weeks, or are just fed up watching everyone else play, this might finally be your chance.
Walmart has announced it will be restocking both the standalone Nintendo Switch 2 console and the Mario Kart World bundle today Wednesday 25 June. Paid Walmart+ members will have access one hour earlier than everyone else.
The early access drop kicks off at 9pm ET. While Walmart hasn't officially revealed when it'll open to the general public, it's likely to be 10pm ET, assuming any stock is left. The bundle includes the Nintendo Switch 2 and a copy of Mario Kart World.

Sabrina Carpenter fans crack Espresso 'meaning' before Man's Best Friend launch

Sabrina Carpenter fans have been left convinced the singer has a hidden message in her hit song Espresso that only fans of a certain video game franchise will be able to decipher Sabrina Carpenter fans are all talking about a new theory that the songstress has hidden a nod to a legendary video game within her smash hit Espresso that only the biggest gamers would be able to crack. Sabrina has been showered with praise for her 2024 anthem, which secured her debut atop the Billboard Global 200 chart and earned her two Grammys for Best Pop Solo Performance and Best Remixed Recording. Now, TikTok users are speculating about the existence of an Easter egg in the award-winning tune. A woman named Nicolette posted a clip where her partner Austin John, a well-known gaming YouTuber, suggests there's a tune from The Legend of Zelda subtly woven into Espresso's intro. ‌ In a stirring reveal, the video titled "Sabrina Carpenter is a Zelda fan?!" features Austin matching the initial notes of Espresso with the iconic melody of Zelda's Lullaby from the timeless instalment, Ocarina of Time, which was first released in 1998 for Nintendo's N64. ‌ By syncing the two melodies, he made the declaration: "Zelda's Lullaby is in Sabrina Carpenter's Espresso." He quipped in the caption: "Sabrina Carpenter definitely played Breath of the Wild." Fans were left scratching their heads after noticing striking similarities between two songs. This sparked theories about Sabrina Carpenter's fondness for the classic video game Legend of Zelda, and some fans spotted her potential as a frontrunner to star in the anticipated live-action film version of the gaming franchise. The revelation led many to speculate that Sabrina's adoration for the game might see her snagging the role of Princess Zelda in the forthcoming movie adaptation, which is set to be released in 2027. Casting suggestions flooded in, with one user commenting: "Then make Sabrina Carpenter play Princess Zelda. She has the acting chops, who says no?" ‌ A third wrote: "How are people only just noticing this? I recognised it after my first time listening to Espresso." But some fans weren't so quick to jump on the bandwagon, suggesting that it might be a bit ambitious to claim that Zelda's Lullaby featured in Espresso based solely on a few identical introductory notes. Still, this wouldn't mark the first time Sabrina has tipped her hat to the gaming universe. A clever lyric in the chorus of Espresso states, "Switch it up like Nintendo", an obvious nod to the popular Nintendo Switch console. Whether or not Espresso intentionally echoes Zelda's Lullaby, we're sure to see more witty lyrics and interesting crossovers when Sabrina drops her new album, Man's Best Friend, on August 29.

The 20-year-old Xbox 360 just got an update and it was actually kind of worth it

In a bizarre bid to promote the Xbox Series X, Microsoft is targeting customers still holding onto their discontinued Xbox 360s. Nintendo are often described as predictably unpredictable, but sometimes other publishers will show they too can make perplexing business decisions. In this case, it's Microsoft, who's recently been talking a lot about its future hardware plans. Aside from two handheld devices scheduled to launch this year, the company announced a multi-year partnership with AMD, for its next generation of Xbox consoles. And yet the company has been compelled to make an update to the soon to be two decades old Xbox 360 and apparently it's just to promote the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S. The Xbox 360 was officially discontinued in 2016; a few years after the launch of its successor, the Xbox One. So, most Xbox owners should have left it behind long ago. Microsoft must think there are enough people that still regularly use them though, to warrant updating its dashboard earlier this week. Especially as they shut the console's digital storefront down last year. For obvious reasons, Microsoft hasn't advertised the update, but awareness has spread online thanks to a post on the Xbox 360 subreddit, by Redditor trackwalker. Delivered to your inbox every Saturday morning. 360 Dashboard updated byu/trackwalker inxbox360 The update appears to only be cosmetic in nature, altering the thumbnails on the dashboard so they're not as stretched out – something that's earned approval from some fans and is likely a response to long-standing concerns about the UI. Additionally, the dashboard now features promotions for the current Xbox consoles, alongside a QR code and the phrase: 'Experience next-gen performance. Upgrade today.' More Trending Considering the Xbox Series X/S consoles came out in 2020, it's a bit late to be calling them next gen. They are very much current gen, especially when Microsoft is currently touting its next console line-up as having the 'biggest technological leap ever in a generation.' From the Xbox 360's perspective they're definitely next gen though, even if now is arguably the worst time to purchase an Xbox Series X/S. Aside from the fact that Microsoft has begun talking about newer hardware, the company has been making a big deal about how you don't need an Xbox console to access its games. Aside from PC, certain smart TVs, and the upcoming handhelds, Microsoft's begun porting its Xbox exclusives to PlayStation and Nintendo platforms; a decision clearly made in response to the Xbox Series X/S' ever worsening sales. Not to mention Microsoft jacked up the price of the consoles last month, with the Xbox Series X now £499.99 (a £20 increase) and the Xbox Series S at £299.99 (a £50 increase). Mario Kart World update nerfs three-lap race trick and players are not happy

Its open world structure was already contentious, but a new Mario Kart World patch is actively angering some players. While the new, linear segue sections in Mario Kart World, dubbed intermission tracks by fans, are a lot of fun many are already frustrated that there's no easy way to play traditional three-lap races as an alternative. Many prefer three-lap races, which are still an option in Mario Kart World when playing in the offline versus mode or with friends online. It's a different story, though, when playing random online matches with strangers, which prioritises intermission tracks. Players quickly figured out a way to enjoy traditional three-lap races in random matches but, perhaps in direct response to this, Nintendo has updated the game to make traditional races less frequent online. For context, when playing Mario Kart World online with random opponents, everybody is given a selection of tracks to choose for the next race; all of which are the linear intermission tracks. However, there is an option to choose a random track in the game and players soon learned this option was guaranteed to pick a traditional three-lap variant. So, it became common for most, if not all, players in a lobby to pick the random option. A new update for Mario Kart World dropped yesterday though, and aside from fixing a few bugs it has also 'Adjusted courses selected in 'Random' when selecting next course in a wireless 'VS Race' – according to Nintendo's patch notes. Sign up to the GameCentral newsletter for a unique take on the week in gaming, alongside the latest reviews and more. Delivered to your inbox every Saturday morning. The patch notes don't specify what this adjustment does but, according to dataminer OatmealDome, it essentially means the random selection for tracks now includes all of them – three-lap variants and the intermission tracks. It's entirely possible this was always meant to be the case, and Nintendo is simply correcting an error, but it's easy to read the situation as Nintendo trying to force players into experiencing Mario Kart World the 'proper' way. More Trending Unsurprisingly, this hasn't gone down well with some people on social media. JxmesTHFC says Nintendo has removed the 'one saving grace' of Mario Kart World's online, while GrimReaper8610 goes as far as to say this has 'killed' the game's online versus mode. PsySmasher accurately points out that this isn't going to dissuade people from picking random during online matches, since it's still the only way of getting a three-lap race. YouTuber PapaGenos offers a more measured response, simply saying: 'Give players options, don't force this stuff, let people play however they want to play.' Despite the gripes, this is unlikely to have any sort of significant impact on Mario Kart World's online activity, since most casual players aren't going to be too bothered by any of it.
