12 Madani recreational parks in Ipoh set for July completion
Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming confirmed the progress, highlighting the government's dedication to improving public recreational facilities.
Each park received RM450,000 in funding, with the Canning Madani Recreational Park already operational.
Nga emphasised the ministry's broader vision of establishing 1,000 parks nationwide, aligning with the Madani economic framework's goals of sustainability and community well-being.
'The Madani government is committed to fostering a sustainable, competitive, and prosperous nation. Quality public spaces are vital for the people's welfare,' he said during the launch of the Canning TRM and a CSR initiative by Ipoh City Council (MBI) and Kuala Lumpur Kepong Bhd (KLK).
A memorandum of understanding between MBI and KLK formalised a two-year partnership to maintain seven TRMs, including Woodland Park 1 and 2 Tambun, Bandar Baru Putra, and First Garden.
KLK will conduct biweekly upkeep, such as fertilising and grass cutting.
Nga urged more corporations to support similar initiatives, reinforcing Ipoh's vision for a greener, cleaner city. – Bernama

High Court upholds RM780,000 awarded to sacked exec
The High Court in George Town, Penang, upheld an earlier decision by the Industrial Court. GEORGE TOWN : The High Court here has upheld an Industrial Court's decision awarding nearly RM800,000 in back wages and compensation to a senior employee of a semiconductor firm who was wrongfully dismissed in 2018. The High Court's decision will see Kon Siang Boon, a former global account manager at Molex (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd, retaining the RM789,333.58 awarded to him by the Industrial Court last year. The High Court also ordered the company to pay RM7,500 in costs. Justice Anand Ponnudurai, in his ruling today, said there was no error of law in the Industrial Court's findings, and that the court had rightfully preferred Kon's version of events over the company's, based on the credibility of witnesses. Kon, who had been attached with the company for nearly 30 years, was accused of making fraudulent claims while on a business trip, which Molex claimed breached company policy, and was subsequently sacked in 2018 after a domestic inquiry. The Industrial Court, however, found the dismissal unjustified and procedurally flawed. At the time of his dismissal, he was earning over RM21,000 a month, with bonuses and allowances. According to the facts of the case, from 2016 to November 2017, Kon submitted meal and transport claims under the prevailing company travel policy, which were all approved by his superiors. Molex revised this policy on Nov 1, 2017, to bar meal claims. However, the Industrial Court found that this revised policy had not been clearly communicated to Kon. The court accepted Kon's testimony that he only became aware of the new rules in December 2017 and had stopped making such claims after that. In delivering his ruling, Anand said the Industrial Court's decision was reasonable and backed by detailed analysis.

Late selling drags Bursa to intraday low ahead of 13MP
KUALA LUMPUR : Bursa Malaysia ended at its intraday low today, pressured by late selling as investors positioned themselves ahead of the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP) announcement on Thursday. Apart from that, investors are awaiting fresh catalysts from the outcome of the US federal open market committee (FOMC) meeting scheduled on July 29-30, amid ongoing US-China trade talks in Stockholm. UOB Kay Hian Wealth Advisors Sdn Bhd's head of investment research Sedek Jantan said investors appear to be positioning their portfolios/strategies ahead of potential domestic fiscal support, especially if external trade conditions deteriorate. 'The 13MP, to be unveiled in Parliament on Thursday under the Madani framework, will reinforce the government's pro-growth trajectory, with a strong emphasis on infrastructure and industrial development,' he told Bernama. Sedek said the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) closed lower today as sentiment turned increasingly cautious ahead of key global policy events. He said market focus is now on the FOMC meeting as it is expected that the Federal Reserve (Fed) will leave rates unchanged, and the committee's forward guidance will be more closely scrutinised. 'In light of reduced tariff uncertainty from recent trade deals, Fed chairman Jerome Powell may choose to maintain flexibility for a September move. 'Markets appear to be pricing in this optionality, while remaining highly sensitive to the interplay between global policy risk and domestic macroeconomic resilience,' he said. He further noted that the positive signals from the US-China trade talks in Stockholm further buoyed market sentiment. 'The meeting between US Treasury secretary Scott Bessent and Chinese vice-premier He Lifeng, which focussed on addressing global economic imbalances, was seen as a constructive step ahead of the Aug 1 tariff deadline, helping to reduce geopolitical risk premiums. 'As such, investor reaction remains more measured, perhaps reflecting increased confidence in diplomatic engagement or reduced expectations of immediate escalation,' he noted. Meanwhile, Rakuten Trade Sdn Bhd equity research vice-president Thong Pak Leng anticipates the local index to remain cautious as underlying sentiment continues to be weighed down by external uncertainties and inconsistent fund flows. 'With lingering concerns over global trade developments, monetary policy shifts, and foreign fund outflows, the broader outlook remains fragile. 'As such, we maintain our weekly FBM KLCI target at 1,510-1,540,' said Thong. At 5pm, the FBM KLCI fell 5.56 points, or 0.36%, to close at 1,523.82 from yesterday's close of 1,529.38. The benchmark index opened 0.20 of-a-point firmer at 1,529.58 and subsequently hit its highest level of 1,537.62 in early trade before trending downward for the rest of the day. Harn Len posts stronger 4Q, declares special dividend of 3.00 sen
KUALA LUMPUR: Harn Len Corp Bhd remains cautious and is actively formulating strategies to safeguard its business operations. The plantation group said these include enhancing efficiency and implementing cost rationalisation measures to mitigate potential negative impacts. Harn Len noted that the crude palm oil (CPO) price is currently hovering between RM3,900 to RM4,100 per tonne. It said prices fluctuated in June 2025, driven by a surge in global crude oil prices early in the month and the ceasefire in the Israel-Iran conflict. 'Surge of soybean oil prices and high demand from India will help to support the CPO price, where the average CPO price for the year is forecasted to remain above RM4,000 per tonne,' it added. In the fourth quarter ended May 31, Harn Len's net profit surged to RM22.5mil, or earnings per share of 3.68 sen, from RM1.5mil, or 0.27 sen, a year ago. This brought its full-year profit to RM33.4mil, or 5.75 sen. Quarterly revenue rose 39.3% to RM70.9mil from RM50.9mil, lifting full-year revenue to RM283.2mil. Harn Len said the higher operating revenue was mainly driven by increased sales volumes of CPO and palm kernel. The surge in profit was primarily due to a gain from the disposal of an investment property. It has declared a special dividend of 3.00 sen per share for the financial year ended May 31, 2025, payable on July 15 to shareholders on record as at July 1.
