NEET-UG 2024 paper leak case: No evidence found against suspected ringleader by CBI, say sources

case told ET that the central agency did not find any evidence against Mukhiya and so did not file any charge sheet naming him.
After the Bihar Police arrested Mukhiya on April 25, the CBI had sought his remand from a local court. Among the reasons that triggered CBI's move to interrogate Mukhiya was a viral video that purportedly showed him entering a premises where exam papers were printed. After investigation, the CBI found out that the video was of 2023, the people said. Technical analysis, statements of witnesses and co-accused and other evidence did not suggest the involvement of Mukhiya in the leak of NEET-UG 2024, they told ET. "So far no evidence has come to light against Sanjeev Mukhiya establishing his involvement in the leak of NEET-UG 2024," an official told ET on the condition of anonymity.

Mukhiya is wanted in other alleged paper leaks, including the Bihar constable recruitment scam 2023 and Bihar teachers' recruitment scam. Mukhiya had filed an application in a special CBI court in Patna seeking bail in the NEET-2024 paper leak case. He argued that he had been in judicial custody for 90 days and that the CBI had not filed a charge sheet against him, which entitled him to be released on bail.

After hearing arguments from both sides, the court applied Section 167 of the Code of Criminal Procedure and granted him bail. The section deals with the statutory period for filing chargesheet after the arrest.
The CBI so far has arrested 50 accused in the NEET case. It filed the first charge sheet naming 13 accused on July 1, 2024. Another charge sheet was filed against six people in September 2024. The CBI later filed three more supplementary charge sheets in October and November 2024. The last charge sheet, filed on November 22 last year, names five additional accused. The investigation is ongoing.

Bhopal: A 14-year-old girl, a Class 9 student, was allegedly raped, blackmailed, and sexually exploited by a friend of her cousin. During the assault, he recorded obscene videos and took her nude photos. The next day, Maniman allegedly showed the survivor the photos and videos and began blackmailing her, threatening to make them viral if she did not comply with his demands for a physical relationship. Guj NCB uncovers mephedrone laboratories in Rajasthan, Maha
Ahmedabad: The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) Ahmedabad, in collaboration with the Rajasthan and Maharashtra Police, dismantled a drug manufacturing and smuggling syndicate and nabbed one person from Pratapgarh in Rajasthan. The agency uncovered clandestine labs in Pratapgarh, Rajasthan, and Raigad, Maharashtra, and arrested key figures involved in the production and distribution of mephedrone, a banned psychotropic substance. According to an NCB official, the probe began with the seizure of a 4.5kg consignment, which was traced back to Pratapgarh. This prompted a series of coordinated operations that led to the arrest of several suppliers and the recovery of Rs 6 lakh in drug sale proceeds. Interrogations revealed the existence of illicit labs in Pratapgarh, with one Siddik Khan Mev identified as a primary suspect. A joint operation on July 22, uncovered a lab hidden in a buffalo barn in Barmer, Rajasthan, where precursor chemicals and equipment were seized. Gondpipri Gambling Den Raided After Rs 40 Lakh Loss by a Gambler Triggers Minister's Probe
Chandrapur: Minister of state for home Pankaj Bhoyar has ordered a probe into illegal gambling at Polsa village in Chandrapur district. The hamlet, located on the Maharashtra–Telangana border, has reportedly turned into a gambling hub for high-profile businessmen from Vidarbha and neighbouring districts of the southern state. According to sources, a man from Telangana allegedly lost ₹40 lakh in a single night at a club in the village. The man, identified as Chhotu Ingalwar from Adilabad district, was reportedly hospitalised after the incident. The matter escalated when video clips showing dozens of people placing bets on multiple tables went viral and were aired by news channels. Taking note of the media reports, Bhoyar ordered an inquiry, prompting superintendent of police (SP) Mummakka Sudharshan to launch a crackdown. A joint team of the Local Crime Branch and Lathi police raided the club and examined its CCTV system. While footage from the night in question was missing, officers have begun the process of securing the video aired by news channels.
