Thursday, June 12 forecast: Rainy weather has returned

Hopefully you were able to make the most of the sunshine and warm weather we've experienced the past several days, because today isn't going to be another one. Scattered rain showers this morning will linger through the afternoon and into Friday.

Rain this morning is moving up from the southwest and expanding northeast across the Ozarks. Rain will be light to moderate and become more scattered in the afternoon today. So, not raining all the time, but rain is likely today. Given the slow nature of the storm system, a locally heavy downpour could lead to very localized flooding.
The core of the storm will move through Thursday night into Friday. Pockets of heavy rain and embedded thunder will remain possible through the period. There will be just enough instability and wind energy to keep an eye out for an isolated severe weather risk. Locally heavy rain, however, is the main concern.
The slow-moving system will move out on Saturday. Rain chances over the weekend, especially Saturday, look much lower with many areas remaining dry. Sunnier skies will also bring early summer heat back to the area.
A more summer-like look to the pattern will be taking hold as we move into the following week. We can expect some pop-up showers and thunderstorms most days, but most areas will remain dry. Temperatures will creep higher at night and during the day. 90° will likely remain just out of reach for most areas, but we'll be getting close.
