Gene Hackman's daughter speaks out, reveals actor's condition before death
ALBAWABA - Gene Hackman's youngest daughter spoke up about her father's condition in the months leading up to his death.
In a "couple of months" prior to their deaths, Leslie Anne Hackman, 58, disclosed on Thursday that she "hadn't talked" to the Oscar winner and her stepmother, Hackman's wife Betsy Arakawa. However, she claimed that the "Unforgiven" star was "in very good physical condition" until the very end.
On Wednesday, Hackman, Arakawa, and one of their three dogs were discovered dead at their Santa Fe, New Mexico, home after a maintenance worker became alarmed after failing to contact the couple.
Hackman was 95. He married Arakawa, his second wife, in 1991. The classical pianist was 65.

According to Leslie, she and her family are still adjusting to the news and are waiting for information regarding Hackman and Arakawa's causes of death.
According to Leslie and her older sister, 63-year-old Elizabeth Jean Hackman, their father and stepmother may have perished due to a carbon monoxide leak.
Leslie, who claimed to have a "close" relationship with her father, added that prior to his death, "there was no indication that there was any problem" with his health.
She told the outlet, "He was in very good physical condition despite his age," and that the "French Connection" star hadn't had any significant surgery recently.
"He enjoyed doing yoga and Pilates, and he was still doing that a few times a week," Leslie said. She added, "So he was in good health," adding that Hackman's passing was "not terribly shocking because he was 95."
Living hundreds of miles away from New Mexico in California, Leslie, the youngest of Hackman's three children, whom he shared with his ex-wife, Faye Maltese, claimed that she hadn't seen the actor or Arakawa in a "few months."
Before acknowledging that she hadn't spoken to them in a few months, Leslie said, "We were close, but everything was normal and good."
"They had a wonderful marriage," Leslie remarked of her father's connection with Arakawa. I also give his wife Betsy credit for keeping him alive.
She went on to say, "[Betsy] took very, very good care of him and was always looking out for his health." "For that, I am grateful, and I am deeply saddened by her passing."
After talking to Santa Fe police, Leslie intends to travel to New Mexico.

She said, "We have to wait and see what information the police have." "We didn't anticipate having to go outside and inspect the house and everything."
"We have some work ahead of us," the daughter of the "Birdcage" star continued. However, we will be traveling to New Mexico.
In a statement to The Post earlier Thursday, Leslie, Elizabeth, and Hackman's granddaughter Annie confirmed the deaths of both Hackman and Arakawa.
They said, "We regret to inform you of the passing of our father, Gene Hackman, and his wife, Betsy."
The statement added, "To us, he was always just Dad and Grandpa, but to millions of people around the world, he was loved and admired for his brilliant acting career." "We are devastated by the loss and will miss him terribly."
The Santa Fe County Sheriff's Office verified that there "were no apparent signs of foul play" at the residence where Hackman and Arakawa were discovered in a press release on Thursday.
The deaths were, however, "suspicious enough in nature to require a thorough search and investigation," according to a police affidavit.
The couple's multimillion-dollar home's door was "unsecured and opened," according to the affidavit, and when police came, there was no evidence of theft or forced entry.
According to the affidavit, the room where Arakawa and the dead dog were discovered had an open orange prescription medicine bottle and pills all over it.
According to the sheriff's press release, both Arakawa and Hackman underwent autopsies, and both were asked to undergo toxicological and carbon monoxide testing.
According to the announcement, neither of the deceased showed any symptoms of external injuries. We continue the inquiry and await the official results of the autopsy and toxicology reports.

French actor Gérard Depardieu found guilty of sexual assault
Depardieu, 76, was convicted of groping a 54-year-old set dresser while on set. According to the court, he touched her hips and chest inappropriately after cornering her in a narrow hallway. The woman described the assault in graphic terms, alleging the actor "palpated" her body and made an obscene suggestion that she touch him. She also claimed Depardieu told her he wanted to rape her. 'The actor's calm and cooperative attitude during the trial bore no resemblance to his behavior at work,' she told the court. A second woman, an assistant on the same production, has also accused Depardieu of groping her on three separate occasions, including touching her buttocks and breasts. Judges are expected to issue a ruling on her complaint later Tuesday. During the four-day trial in March, Depardieu denied that his actions were sexual in nature. While he admitted to grabbing the set dresser's hips during an argument and acknowledged using crude language, he insisted, 'I'm not like that.' He also emphasized his long-standing career, noting he has worked on more than 250 films. Paris prosecutors recommended an 18-month suspended prison sentence and a 20,000 euro (USD 22,200) fine, citing the actor's "total denial and failure to question himself." Despite the allegations, Depardieu has maintained support from several high-profile figures in the French film industry. Actors Vincent Perez and Fanny Ardant appeared in court on his behalf. Depardieu, once an internationally celebrated actor and Oscar nominee for Cyrano de Bergerac, has faced mounting allegations in recent years. More than 20 women have accused him of harassment or assault, though most complaints have not resulted in charges due to expired statutes of limitations or lack of evidence.

Eurovision limbers up with over-60s disco
This photograph shows a boat navigated on the Rhine River with towers (right) in the background hosting the headquarters of Swiss pharmaceutical giant Roche, in Basel on Saturday (AFP photo) BASEL, Switzerland — Eurovision host city Basel laid on a mass over-60s disco on Saturday to whip up the party mood ahead of the event's grand final in two weeks' time. Nearly 1,400 senior citizens attended the bash, an attempt to reach out to the older demographic and get them involved in the Eurovision Song Contest festivities. The Swiss border city of Basel is hosting this year's edition of the glitzy extravaganza, one of the world's biggest annual live television shows. It is staging a range of events on the sidelines to make the most of the occasion. "It's a highlight of the Eurovision for me," said Liz Gilbert, 64, who came dressed in a 1970s outfit. "Normally it's just on television, so it's great," she told AFP."I'm very happy that my hometown can host it." Women outnumbered the men across the two dance floors, with plenty of over-70s swinging their hips to the music in the mid-afternoon. One floor played Swiss tunes in the national languages of German, French and Italian, with the other dance floor playing rock and pop classics from the 1960s to the 1980s. "We are here celebrating the disco like they used to back in the day and we are gathering people from all around Switzerland to have a good time," said Celine Koenig, spokeswoman for the Pro Senectute organisation for the elderly, which helped organise the event. The tickets cost nine Swiss francs ($11). Having a ball Dominique Guerdat, 67, and Carmen Deillon, 61, came with their gym group from nearby Delemont. "We're having a blast, we're dancing, we're laughing, we're seeing people, and we're drinking. Cheers!" said Guerdat. "The music is great, it's from our era." Her friend Deillon had hoped more people would have dressed up in 1970s outfits. "I was expecting everyone to be like that, but in the end, there aren't many. But it's great, and they have some great hits," she said. There were plenty of smiles as party-goers bopped away to classic hits from the Rolling Stones, the Monkees, Chubby Checker, Boney M., Wham! and ABBA. "Opportunities to socialise decrease with age," said Eurovision 2025 host broadcaster SRG. "This party is designed to give people aged 60 and over the opportunity to meet up and celebrate together. "Joy is spread through music and dance," it said. Singing "The Code", Swiss vocalist Nemo's 2024 Eurovision victory in Malmo, Sweden earned Switzerland the right to host this year's 69th edition. The kitsch celebration is being staged at the St. Jakobshalle indoor arena. The semi-finals are on May 13 and 15, with the final on May 17. Switzerland hosted the inaugural Eurovision Song Contest in 1956, and again in 1989. Page 2
