It's very much make or break for Munster and while there is a series of other results that could see the Reds sneak into the URC play-offs if they lose to Benetton, really the Reds have to do the business in their final regular season fixture.
Losing at home on Friday night would almost certainly mean the end of their 2025/26 season ahead of the knock-outs, but the other consequence is the loss of their proud record of playing in the Champions Cup every year.
Last week's victory at Thomond Park was encouraging in that respect as they saw off an Ulster side that also needed a victory. But Benetton will be a step up if they can maintain the level displayed in their recent performances, in particular the victory over reigning champions Glasgow in Scotstoun last week.

Those two victories mean that the sides are virtually neck and neck heading into their finals showdown. The sides are locked together on 46 points and while Munster have a much healthier points difference banked, Benetton are ahead in seven place as they have won more matches (nine to Munster's eight).
It's a minefield. Scarlets, on 48 points in sixth place, are two points ahead of Munster, Benetton and ninth placed Cardiff. Edinburgh are on 44 points in 10th.
But the province have their fate in their own hands and, with home advantage as well, they have plenty in their favour against a quality side travelling to Cork.
The match will be played at Virgin Media Park, Cork
The match kicks off at 8pm on Friday
It will be shown live on TG4 from (7.30pm) and Premier Sports 1 (from 7.55pm), and will be streamed live on URC.tv
Munster 1/8 to win, Benetton 5/1 to win; 30/1 draw
Munster interim boss Ian Costello is putting his faith in an unchanged team and matchday squad. Thaakir Abrahams, Calvin Nash in the back three, Alex Nankivell and the ever-present Tom Farrell in midfield andCasey and Jack Crowley at half-back.
Michael Milne, Niall Scannell and Stephen Archer make up the front row, Kleyn and captain Tadhg Beirne the second row and O'Mahony, John Hodnett and Gavin Coombes the back row.
Lee Barron, Josh Wycherley, John Ryan, Fineen Wycherley, Tom Ahern and Alex Kendellen are the forward replacements, with Murray and Seán O'Brien providing the backs cover.

Arne Slot's BRILLIANT tactic that won over Florian Wirtz

Having the money to spend on big transfer is one thing, but convincing the player to bring themselves into a different sporting environment is a whole other challenge. Envisioning the personal relationships the player would form with the manager, his future teammates, the club staff and in terms of working cohesively on the pitch, is essential to securing a signing. Advertisement Jurgen Klopp's loveable character as a father figure to some of the players was the they for most of the last decade. He knew how the team could succeed in a sporting sense, but his general character was endearing and players actively wanted to played under him. The move to Arne Slot as Liverpool's head coach changed things a little, but despite the Dutchman taking slightly different approach, it is clear that the Reds still have elite 'pull' in the transfer market. © IMAGO - Arne Slot Liverpool 2024-25 How Arne Slot got the players on board with summer moves The club's Premier League winning season will no doubt have helped in terms of showcasing the ambition of the Reds, but establishing a connection with transfer targets is still necessary. Advertisement In a report for Mail Sport, Lewis Steele has revealed the main tactic that Slot uses to help make players feel comfortable with the idea of joining Liverpool, knowing they're making the right move. He said: "[Arne] Slot is Mr Meticulous. I think the level of detail all top-level managers go into would shock most casual fans but Slot definitely goes above and beyond in this regard. "For example, when selling a pitch to a player to join his club, Slot has been said to show them big dossiers with what he knows about them and, most importantly, how the star could improve under the Dutchman's leadership. "Slot will probably have done this with the likes of Jeremie Frimpong and [Florian] Wirtz... it is an indication into why he is in the elite bracket of bosses." As such, while Liverpool often look extremely well drilled on the pitch, because Slot has worked out a tactical plan to outplay the opposition prior to a match, it seems as though a serious amount of work also takes place behind the scenes with the players at the club and the transfer targets he wants. Advertisement Playing in a new environment with a healthier salary is all well and good, but most players have an understanding of their ability and how complete an asset they are. Deep down, they want to be the best they can be and working with the right people who can help them achieve that is paramount. Slot's vision for Liverpool is deliver further success to the history of the club and the players have all made that same commitment by joining the Reds. They believe in the philosophy he is preaching. As such, Florian Wirtz's likely move to Merseyside will have been down to a lot more than just the size of the club and the success we're delivering. Tactically, the German will help the team step up a level and the player will fundamentally believe that we can improve his game as well. The absence of Klopp to persuade players to join might have been a cause for concern this time last year, but 12 months later, it's clear that Liverpool have secured one of their best coaches in the world.

Caitlin Clark Issues Apology To WNBA Fan After Pregame Accident

Caitlin Clark Issues Apology To WNBA Fan After Pregame Accident originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Caitlin Clark has been forced to watch the Indiana Fever from the sidelines over their last three games, still dealing with a quad strain that will keep her out at least one more. Advertisement Going into Tuesday, the Fever were riding a three-game losing streak, but that came to an end after an 85-76 win over the Washington Mystics. With Clark watching from the bench, Indiana turned to fellow All-Star guard Kelsey Mitchell for the bulk of the scoring, notching 24 points on 7-of-14 shooting, two rebounds and three assists. Even though Clark is dealing with a multi-week injury, that didn't stop her from having some fun at Gainbridge Fieldhouse. Before Tuesday's game, she was seen playfully bouncing a ball up and down. Advertisement The former Iowa Hawkeyes star went to retrieve the ball as Sophie Cunningham, also sidelined with a right ankle injury, looked on. After stepping back onto the court, Clark turned and apologized to the fan for the accidental bounce. "Sorry," Clark said with a smile on her face. Clark was able to play in the Fever's first four games of the 2025 WNBA season, leading them to a 2-2 record. In those contests, she is averaging 19.0 points, 6.0 rebounds and 9.3 assists. With Clark and Cunningham both sidelined, the Fever brought in guard Aari McDonald to fill a roster spot, and she stepped up against Washington as well. McDonald tallied seven points, five assists and three steals, making a strong case for a permanent place on the team. Advertisement The Fever will embark on a road trip to battle the Chicago Sky on Saturday, a game Clark will miss. However, she could potentially return in the following matchup against the Atlanta Dream on Tuesday. Padres Held Call With Red Sox Regarding Jarren Duran Trade, Second MLB Insider Reports

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Since Monday, Boston Red Sox fans have been all abuzz with a rumor that the San Diego Padres are attempting to make a trade for Boston's 2024 All-Star outfielder Jarren Duran. The buzz started with a report by Padres correspondent Dennis Lin of The Athletic, who noted that San Diego had first tried to get Duran prior to last season. With an offensive disaster in left field — Padres left fielders rank second-worst in MLB with a combined .533 OPS — San Diego president of baseball operations A.J. Preller is once again setting his sights on Duran as he searches for some way to improve the position, Lin reported. MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN - MAY 28: Jarren Duran #16 of the Boston Red Sox poses for a photo with the Wally Home Run Head in the dugout before a game against the Milwaukee Brewers at American Family Field in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on May 28, 2025. More Maddie Malhotra/BostonThe following day, a veteran Boston baseball writer said he had independently confirmed with "an industry source" that Preller did, in fact, call the Red Sox to inquire about Duran's availability. But that writer, MassLive Red Sox columnist Sean McAdam, went on to say that while the Padres' interest in Duran is real, the Red Sox appear far less enthusiastic about parting with their 28-year-old leadoff hitter, who still has three years of team control after this one remaining before he hits free agency. More MLB: Watch: Tempers Flare Between Red Sox, Angels as Multiple Players, Coaches Involved "While Duran may represent the perfect fit for the Padres — relatively affordable for a team currently not in position to add much to its payroll," McAdam wrote, "the same can't be said from the Red Sox' perspective." Duran through the first two months of the season has lagged somewhat behind his pace from last season, particularly in May when the entire Red Sox team hit a slump and won just 11 games while dropping 17. Last season, Duran posted an OPS of .724 in April and March, and .767 in May. This year, those numbers are .762 and then, in May, .697. But it was in June that Duran really started to put together his All-Star credentials last year, hitting .360 with seven home runs, nine stolen bases and a sparkling 1.063 OPS for the month. While this June is just getting started, Duran through the first three games was showing signs that this is indeed his favorite month, with five hits including four doubles in 15 plate appearances, and a .933 OPS. It would not be surprising, then, if the Red Sox wanted to wait a few weeks to evaluate what Duran's performance actually looks like this season, before deciding whether to part ways with him.
