Caitlin Clark Issues Apology To WNBA Fan After Pregame Accident
Caitlin Clark has been forced to watch the Indiana Fever from the sidelines over their last three games, still dealing with a quad strain that will keep her out at least one more.

Going into Tuesday, the Fever were riding a three-game losing streak, but that came to an end after an 85-76 win over the Washington Mystics.
With Clark watching from the bench, Indiana turned to fellow All-Star guard Kelsey Mitchell for the bulk of the scoring, notching 24 points on 7-of-14 shooting, two rebounds and three assists.
Even though Clark is dealing with a multi-week injury, that didn't stop her from having some fun at Gainbridge Fieldhouse. Before Tuesday's game, she was seen playfully bouncing a ball up and down.

But one bounce got away from her as the ball sailed into the crowd, appearing to land near one of the fans sitting courtside.

The former Iowa Hawkeyes star went to retrieve the ball as Sophie Cunningham, also sidelined with a right ankle injury, looked on. After stepping back onto the court, Clark turned and apologized to the fan for the accidental bounce.
"Sorry," Clark said with a smile on her face.
Clark was able to play in the Fever's first four games of the 2025 WNBA season, leading them to a 2-2 record. In those contests, she is averaging 19.0 points, 6.0 rebounds and 9.3 assists.
With Clark and Cunningham both sidelined, the Fever brought in guard Aari McDonald to fill a roster spot, and she stepped up against Washington as well. McDonald tallied seven points, five assists and three steals, making a strong case for a permanent place on the team.

The Fever will embark on a road trip to battle the Chicago Sky on Saturday, a game Clark will miss. However, she could potentially return in the following matchup against the Atlanta Dream on Tuesday.

Major League Baseball Phillies' Ace Zack Wheeler Has Surgery to Remove Blood Clot in Right Arm Updated Aug. 18, 2025 4:56 p.m. ET share facebook x reddit link Phillies ace Zack Wheeler had surgery Monday to remove a blood clot in his upper right arm, and the team says a timeline for his recovery remains uncertain. The Phillies said Wheeler underwent a thrombolysis procedure by Dr. Paul DiMuzio at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital. The 35-year-old Wheeler was placed on the 15-day injured list Saturday with a blood clot after experiencing worsening shoulder soreness. Wheeler, who made his third All-Star team last month, is 10-5 with a 2.71 ERA in 24 starts this season. He has a major league-high 195 strikeouts in 149.2 innings. He has thrown at least 192 innings in three of the previous four seasons. The veteran right-hander looked like he was in the running for his first career Cy Young as the Phillies' ace, while they attempted to win the NL East crown and make it to the postseason for the fourth consecutive season. The strength of their rotation, which includes Wheeler as well as Cristopher Sanchez, Ranger Suarez and Taijuan Walker, have helped compensate for a lacking bullpen. Now, with Wheeler out indefinitely, it becomes even more important for Aaron Nola – who recently returned from the IL himself when he pitched on Aug. 17 against the Nationals – to perform more like he did even last year, and before 2025's injury troubles. The Phillies are in first place in the NL East, five games up on the New York Mets and tied for the second-most wins in the NL behind the Brewers. The Associated Press contributed to this report. Sky Coach Makes Major Announcement About Angel Reese's Possible Return
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. It's been nearly three weeks since Angel Reese last suited up for the Chicago Sky. The 23-year-old forward has been sidelined since July 29 with a back injury that's kept her out of commission for much of the time since the All-Star break in mid-July. Losing Reese, who leads the team in pointers per game (14.2), rebounds per game (12.6), and assists per game (3.7), was a big blow to the Sky, who have went 1-5 without her during their recent stretch and have won just one of the 10 games Reese has missed this season. More WNBA: Caitlin Clark Makes Bold WNBA MVP Declaration After Fever-Sun There hasn't been any clear timeline of when Reese could return, but after videos emerged on social media of Reese practicing with the team as she eases her way back into things, head coach Tyler Marsh gave the most promising injury update on Reese to date. "She looked great," Marsh told reporters on Monday, via Chicago State of Mind Sports. "She fit right in. It's like she hadn't missed any time off. The Chemistry is still there with her teammates, and she picked up on stuff we were doing, picked up on the game plan going into tomorrow. So, we'll continue to see how she feels tomorrow at shootaround and gauge it day by day still. It's possible [she can return Tuesday]." Angel Reese #5 of the Chicago Sky shoots a free-throw during the first quarter against the Minnesota Lynx at Wintrust Arena on July 14, 2025 in Chicago, WNBA: Fever Lose Sophie Cunningham to Concerning Injury vs Sun Because of Chicago's 8-25 record and the team's 12th-place standing (the Sky are just two games ahead of the last-place Connecticut Sun), there's been no real urgency to get Reese back on the court. While Ariel Atkins (12.9 points, 3.4 assists, 3.1 rebounds per game), and Kamilla Cardoso (12.8 points, 8.2 rebounds, 2.0 assists per game) have both performed admirably in Reese's absence, it's clear the Sky are a much weaker team without Reese on the floor. More WNBA: Aliyah Boston Breaks Caitlin Clark's Franchise Record in Historic Fever Comeback The 2025 season has been a bit of a disappointment for Chicago, which fired Teresa Weatherspoon, who went 13-27 in her lone season as head coach last year, and replaced her with Marsh, who was hired away from the Las Vegas Aces back in November to replace her. Chicago also parted ways with its top player last year as well in Chennedy Carter, who signed with Wuhan Shengfan of the Women's Chinese Basketball Association after leading Chicago in scoring in 2024. The shake up hasn't proved fruitful and the Sky have regressed in Year 2 of the Reese era.
