Scots Language Awards to return for 2025 with school lessons to start
The annual celebration is for all involved in the promotion of Scots, one of the country's designated indigenous languages.
Award organisers Hands Up For Trad will work alongside Scots Hoose to deliver Scots language sessions to schools across the country.
Scots speakers across Scotland are being asked to share their favourite Scots poems for the Gies a Scots Poem initiative, which is now in its third year. Poems representing the breadth of Scots spoken across the country, such as Doric Shetlandic and Dundonian are included.
This will be the seventh edition of the Scots Language Awards with categories spanning business, literature, work in the community and more, and it will be hosted by Taylor Dyson and Scots creative Lynne Campbell.
Scots music and poetry will be performed by the likes of Ellie Beaton, Amy Leach, Catriona Hawksworth and local Burns purveyor Wullie Dick.

Peregrine Falcon chick living on iconic Glasgow building dies after 'bird flu' scare
Jack, named after lovable Still Game character Jack Jarvis, was one of two chicks born in April on the gothic spire of the Gilbert Scott Building at the University of Glasgow. A peregrine falcon chick which lived on the roof of a Scots university has sadly been put to sleep after suspected 'bird flu'. Jack, named after lovable Still Game character Jack Jarvis, was one of two chicks born in April on the gothic spire of the Gilbert Scott Building at the University of Glasgow. Jack hatched alongside brother Victor in the spring at the nest of proud parents Bonnie and Clyde. The stunning raptors were being closely monitored by a the Glasgow Peregrine Project. The duo inspired by the Craiglang favourites captured the attention of birdwatchers and the public with regular updates being shared on social media - with a series of cameras around the University campus capturing the action. This week Jack and Victor were all set to spread their wings with a series of attempts to spread their wings. But whilst Victor attempted his first fledgling concerns began to grow over Jack. The project shared a series of worrying updates earlier in the week. On Wednesday morning they shared that Jack was "seriously unwell". A rescue mission was launched that day which involved a member wincing themselves to a lower ledge on the tower. Jack was taken into the care of the Scottish SPCA but after assessing him he was deemed likely to have contracted bird flu. Vets were forced to put him down to "ease his suffering". In a statement. Glasgow Peregrine Project said: "It is with sadness that we must report that after pulling out all the stops and effecting a rescue, Jack has passed away. "The UoG and all the Project team have monitored him through the night and worked throughout the day to put the rescue plan in place. Work that would ordinarily be done in a month was done in a day to expedite Jack's care. "The SSPCA assessed Jack and deemed that he had likely contracted Bird Flu and sadly, had to put him down to ease his suffering. A video was posted showing the daring rescue with a member of the project hanging over the hedge of the tower and being carefully lowered down. He was spotted wearing full protective gear and a mask. The project say the rest of the birds will be "closely monitored". They added: "Given this circumstance, we will continue round the clock monitoring of the entire family. Your sightings and any significant observations would be greatly appreciated." Tributes poured in for Jack with well-wishers taking to the Facebook post to express their condolences. Parents were trying to encourage Victor to fly, which he did eventually - a small circle round, high above the quad then back to the spire. "They all seem fine as far as I could tell, Mum was giving out a lot of distress cries after Jack was taken away - which is normal I would expect. Here's hoping they are all well and remain so." The Scottish SPCA said; "The Scottish SPCA was contacted by the project team with concerns about the falcon's health. Following a thorough assessment and consultation with our experts at the National Wildlife Rescue Centre, it was determined that, to prevent further suffering, the only humane option was to carry out euthanasia. "This decision was not taken lightly and was made in the best interest of the bird's welfare."

'Bit dry to be Scotland,' one viewer joked A Scot has gone viral online for their unusually shaped steak. The piece of meat appears to resemble Scotland. Scotland is famed for its thriving culinary scene. People all over the world flock to the country for its various Michelin-starred restaurants and hidden gem eateries. However, it is not every day that you come across food that looks like Scotland itself. That is exactly what happened to one individual who sat down to eat a steak, though. On Tuesday, June 11, one person took to social media to share an image of their steak. Writing on the Scotland community on Reddit, they wrote: "Cooked a steak that looks like Scotland." As can be seen in the image, the steak does in fact appear to bear a resemblance to the shape of Scotland. The meat resembles the irregular and jagged landmass of the country, with certain parts of it vaguely resembling the Highlands, Aberdeenshire, and Dumfries and Galloway on a map. Since being shared, the photo has received more than 2,000 'upvotes'. The post has also been commented on more than 220 times, with many Scots keen to share their thoughts on the steak. Some Reddit users were quick to comment on the appearance of the steak, with many stating that they believed it to be overdone. One even went to so far as to say it was "nuked". One comment reads: "It'd be easier to chew through Hadrian's Wall than that thing." "It is spelt nuked," a second stated, while another Reddit user said: "No, you ruined a steak until it looked like Scotland." A fourth posted: "Is that my shoe sole? Steak looks drier than the Sahara." Meanwhile, a few joked that the meat looked too "dry" to be Scotland. One wrote: "Definitely not Scotland. Scotland will never be this dry." "Scotland is nowhere near that dry," a second echoed, while a third joked: "Bit dry to be Scotland." One user joked about the shape of the steak, asking: "Where's Shetland?" In response, somebody else replied: "It still burns in the pan." Elsewhere, another posted: "Edinburgh looks a bit burnt." As reported by the Daily Record, Reddit users recently shared their picks for the "best single malt Scotch". Whiskies from distilleries such as Balvenie and Glenfarclas were among those named. We also reported on a simple 65p kitchen ingredient that can help make steak taste like it is from a restaurant. The addition of the ingredient is said to enhance the flavour of the meat as a result of a process that occurs when it is used.
