Stalin announces enhanced compensation for Pollachi sexual case victims
Chennai, May 15 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin on Thursday announced an enhanced compensation of Rs 25 lakh each to the victims of the sensational Pollachi sexual assault case in which nine accused were awarded life term till their death.
An official release said the compensation announced by the Chief Minister was over and above the Rs 85 lakh compensation announced by the Coimbatore Mahila Court while pronouncing the verdict in the case on May 13.
The release applauded the courage shown by the victims by cominjg forward to file their complaints and the cooperation extended by the court that ensured punishment to the culprits and justice to the victims.
A total of eight women have given statements against the accused, including the first complainant,
a 19-year-old college student, who brought the horrific incidents to light.
The sexual assault took place between 2016 and 2018.
The accused were found guilty of sexually assaulting and exploiting women, while also taking videos of the horrific acts and blackmailing them.
The incident, which took place in 2019, shocked the entire state. The victim courageously came forward to expose the brutal acts of the accused, who were part of a larger gang involved in similar assaults on multiple women over the years.
The gang lured the women under false pretenses, filmed their assaults, and used the footages to blackmail them into silence.
Acting on student's complaint, the police uncovered a horrifying network of exploitation, where the accused had allegedly assaulted several women over a span of many years.

Giving "step by step" account of his claim, Gandhi said, "First rig the panel for appointing the Election Commission then add fake voters to the roll, inflate voter turnout and target the bogus voting exactly where BJP needs to win and then hide the evidence". He further said, "It's not hard to see why the BJP was so desperate in Maharashtra. But rigging is like match-fixing - the side that cheats might win the game, but damages institutions and destroy public faith in the result". Urging the people to examine the evidence and demand answers, Rahul Gandhi said, "All concerned Indians must see the evidence. Judge for themselves. Demand answers". Gandhi also alleged that like Maharashtra, Bihar too will see the same "match-fixing" in the upcoming state elections, due later this year. Delhi fraud case: Man held after scamming government of over Rs 30 crore, used forged documents
A man accused of swindling over Rs 30 crore in export-related benefits under the Foreign Trade Policy by using fake documents has been arrested by Delhi Police after being deported from the US. The accused, identified as Angad Pal Singh, also known as Angad Singh Chandhok, was taken into custody on June 2 after being flown back to India. He is currently in judicial custody and was previously held by the Central Bureau of Investigation in connection with another fraud case. According to the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Delhi Police, the case was first registered in January 2017, after a private bank raised a red flag about a series of forged documents. A total of 467 fake Foreign Inward Remittance Certificates (FIRCs) were submitted by 18 account holders linked to 17 firms at the bank's Naraina branch between September 2013 and October 2015, deputy commissioner of Police (EOW) Vikram K. Porwal told PTI. The forged FIRCs, supposedly issued by a Delhi-based branch of the same bank, were used to secure Bank Realisation Certificates (BRCs). These BRCs were then submitted to the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) to unlawfully claim duty credit scrips – incentives meant for exporters on the condition of receiving actual export payments. 'These duty credit scrips were intended as non-cash incentives under the Foreign Trade Policy, issued upon actual receipt of export proceeds. However, in this case, the remittances never materialised,' Porwal said. Singh, along with his father Surinder Singh and brother Harsahib Singh, allegedly ran five export firms, Kumar Trading Company, National Trader, Trident Overseas India, HSC Exim India, and AHC Auto Spares, through which they executed the fraud. The scrips obtained were later sold on the open market for profit. Singh fled the country once the scam surfaced but was eventually tracked down and deported. Police said he is also an accused in another EOW case. Three of his co-accused have already been arrested and charge-sheeted. Authorities said further investigation is ongoing to uncover a broader conspiracy and determine whether any bank officials were complicit.

Speaking to ANI on the train, Rastogi said, 'I have been blessed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Ma'am. I have been allotted a shop in the Kashi Vishwanath corridor. I am happy to be able to travel in this train and I have come to Kashmir especially to travel in this train.' She added that witnessing the inauguration ceremony live was an emotional moment for her. 'I witnessed the inaugural ceremony live yesterday, and it felt surreal. PM Modi has done so much work for the country and even this train is for the country's people. Travel to and from Kashmir has become easy. The experience of travelling on the world's highest bridge was amazing,' she told ANI. Recalling her past meetings with the Prime Minister, Rastogi said, 'I have met PM Modi 2-3 times. This picture is from the time when the Kashi Vishwanath corridor was being inaugurated. Speaking to ANI, Ashok Kumar Khajanchi, a tourist from Bikaner in Rajasthan, shared his experience, 'We came from Bikaner to Mumbai and then to Srinagar. We've visited places like Gulmarg and Sonamarg. Many had tried to scare us into cancelling our trip, but we were determined. When we heard Vande Bharat was running, we cancelled our taxi to Jammu Tawi, even though we lost Rs 6,000. We booked Vande Bharat tickets at 7 PM and reached Srinagar by 8 PM. With my health problems, the train made travel much easier.' Khajanchi, who is recovering from a foot fracture, added, 'The convenience offered by Vande Bharat is unmatched. I had two fractures, so we had to cancel our earlier car and train bookings. But this train made the journey possible and comfortable.' On Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi flagged off two Vande Bharat Express trains from Katra Railway Station, officially connecting the Jammu division with Kashmir via rail. This marks a major milestone in strengthening railway infrastructure in Jammu and Kashmir. During his visit, PM Modi also inaugurated the world's highest railway arch bridge over Chenab River. Speaking on the occasion, he said the development projects will further boost Jammu and Kashmir's growth journey. The train passes through two engineering marvels: the Anji Khad Bridge, India's first cable-stayed railway bridge, and the Chenab Bridge, the highest railway bridge in the world. (ANI)
