Samsung Galaxy S24 Plus gets Rs 47,000 discount, but read this before considering it

India Today01-05-2025

Back in the day, when models like the Galaxy S6 Edge, S8, or S9 ruled the Android space, their "Plus" counterparts commanded as much attention as the standard versions. They offered bigger displays, larger batteries, and often a slightly more premium experience. However, since the introduction of the Ultra series with the Galaxy S20 lineup, the "Plus" models have found themselves stuck in the middle — not as compact and accessible as the standard variant, nor as feature-packed as the Ultra. Still, that middle ground has its appeal, especially for those who want something bigger without going all out.advertisementTake the Samsung Galaxy S24 Plus, for example. This was Samsung's top-tier offering just a few months ago, and now, it's available for Rs 52,999 — a massive Rs 47,000 discount from its original launch price of Rs 99,999. For context, the recently launched Galaxy S25 Plus starts at that very same Rs 99,999 mark. While the S25 Plus does come with its own improvements, at this price, the S24 Plus becomes an incredibly compelling option. Here's why it still holds strong in 2025.What makes the Samsung Galaxy S24 Plus special?First, let's talk about the display. The Galaxy S24 Plus features a 6.7-inch QHD+ Super AMOLED panel with an adaptive 120Hz refresh rate and a peak brightness of 2,600 nits. That's the kind of display you'd typically find on much more expensive phones, including Samsung's own Ultra models. It's sharp, vibrant, and one of the best screens you can get at this price.advertisement
Under the hood, the phone runs on Samsung's in-house Exynos 2400 chip, paired with 12GB RAM and up to 512GB of UFS 4.0 storage. In day-to-day use, this hardware delivers smooth performance, whether you're gaming, multitasking, or streaming. Benchmark numbers aside, the real-world experience is fluid — and for most users, that's what matters. Notably, this was also the model where Samsung made 12GB RAM standard on the Plus and Ultra variants.Battery life is another strong suit. The 4,900mAh battery easily lasts a full day with mixed usage, and while it supports 45W fast charging, you'll need a compatible charger for optimal speeds. Wireless charging is supported too, though capped at 15W. It's not the fastest in its class, but it's reliable — and that counts for a lot.Build quality, as expected, is premium. The phone uses an aluminium frame and Gorilla Glass Victus 2 on both sides. It feels sturdy yet sleek in hand, and the design — while similar to the S23 and S25 series — is clean, minimal, and durable. You also get IP68 water and dust resistance, which is always a welcome addition.Camera performance is solid, too. The setup includes a 50-megapixel primary sensor, a 12-megapixel ultra-wide, and a 10-megapixel telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom. While it doesn't match the versatility of the Ultra's camera system, it still captures detailed, well-balanced shots in most lighting conditions. How do I know? Well, I've personally used the Galaxy S24 extensively in 2024, and both the standard and Plus models share the same camera hardware. Low-light performance is decent, and videos come out stable and crisp. Even the 12-megapixel front camera holds its own for selfies and video calls.advertisementSoftware is another area where Samsung shines. The Galaxy S24 Plus launched with Android 14 and One UI 6.1, and Samsung has promised seven years of software and security updates — a rarity in the Android world. You also get a suite of Galaxy AI features, including Live Translate and Note Assist. These aren't just gimmicks; they genuinely enhance the user experience in meaningful ways.Of course, there are alternatives worth considering. But none of them quite match the all-round balance of the Galaxy S24 Plus at this discounted price. And that's where this deal stands out. You're getting a flagship-grade experience with top-tier display, solid performance, premium build, and long-term software support — all for nearly half the launch price. If you're someone who wants a big phone with flagship-level features but without the Ultra price tag, the Galaxy S24 Plus at Rs 52,999 is a smart, well-rounded choice in 2025.

New Ather Electric Scooter Headlight Design Patent Revealed

It is no secret that Ather Energy is working on a new electric scooter, which is likely to be positioned below the Rizta, a family scooter. The new electric scooter will be more affordable than any of the current Ather models and is likely to be comfort and commuter oriented rather being sporty. Now, we have an image of the design patent of the headlight assembly of the new electric scooter, which is rectangular in shape and could likely house one or two LED projector units. The design has been billed as the 'front shroud of the vehicle'. The new headlight assembly could also have an LED lamp and is likely to get DRLs, which one can see, are bordering the rectangular headlight. What is also interesting to note that this will be the first Ather model to have a headlight on the handlebar. The 450 series and the Rizta have their headlights on the front apron and both models have a very distinct headlight design compared to the one seen in the design patent. Now, it is unlikely that the new headlight assembly will be used on a motorcycle because the cutouts where the handlebar will fit, is usually seen on scooters. Presently, prices of the Ather 450 range start at Rs. 1.20 lakh for the Ather 450 and Rs. 1.90 lakh for the 450 Apex. Prices of the Rizta start at Rs. 1.05 lakh. Expect the prices of the new Ather scooter to start below Rs. 1 lakh.

World's largest container ship docks at Vizhinjam International Seaport

In a significant milestone, MSC IRINA, the world's largest container ship, docked at the Vizhinjam International Seaport on Monday morning, underscoring the port's strategic importance in global shipping. The container ship will be berthed at the port till Tuesday. MSC IRINA boasts of an impressive capacity of 24,346 TEUs (Twenty-foot Equivalent Units), making it a formidable player in global shipping. With a length of 399.9 metres and a width of 61.3 metres, the vessel is approximately four times longer than a standard FIFA-designated football field. Designed specifically to facilitate the transportation of large volumes of containers between Asia and Europe, MSC IRINA is pivotal in enhancing trade routes and logistics efficiency. The vessel's maiden visit to a South Asian port highlights Vizhinjam's capabilities in handling Ultra-Large Container Vessels (ULCVs). The port has recently welcomed other icon-class vessels, including MSC Türkiye and MSC Michel Cappellini, further establishing its reputation as a key hub in maritime trade. This also represents a leap forward in sustainable maritime practices, setting a benchmark for future developments in the industry. MSC IRINA was launched in March 2023 and embarked on its maiden voyage in April of the same year. It is engineered to stack containers up to 26 tiers high, offering unparalleled capacity in container stacking. Notably, MSC IRINA surpasses its predecessor, OOCL Spain, by a margin of 150 TEUs. In alignment with contemporary environmental standards, the vessel is equipped with energy-saving features that contribute to a reduction in carbon emissions by up to 4 per cent, significantly lowering its carbon footprint while maintaining operational efficiency.
