MoT hosts regional training course on management of hazardous materials in seaports

DOHA: The Ministry of Transport (MoT) has hosted a regional training course on the management of hazardous materials in seaports. The event was attended by several maritime specialists from relevant entities in Qatar, in addition to representatives from Kuwaiti maritime entities.
The course covered multiple topics related to the IMDG Code, the safety data sheet (SDS), and types, descriptions, and levels of hazard of HazMat. It also covered topics of HazMat loading and unloading, the labelling and marking of the packages, and other measures that help enhance safety and security at seaports and further protect the environment.
The MoT continues upskilling and updating the knowledge of all those who work in the maritime industry at all relevant entities to further enhance their contribution to the sustainable development of the maritime transportation industry.

ANI Kuwait City Kuwait and India signed a new air services agreement with an aim to increase weekly air capacity by 50 percent. This partnership will allow the airline operators to raise seats up to 18,000 per week, each direction, up from the previous limit of 12,000. A memorandum of understanding (MoU) on air travel was signed by Sheikh Hamoud Mubarak Al Sabah, President of Kuwait's Directorate General of Civil Aviation, and Samir Kumar Sinha, India's Civil Aviation Secretary, according to Kuwait News Agency (KUNA). This is the first time since 2006, when the deal represents the first such expansion of bilateral air rights. In 2006, the capacity was raised from 8,320 seats. The long-awaited agreement comes as part of ongoing efforts to deepen coordination and strategic partnership between the two nations in the civil aviation sector, said Sheikh Hamoud Al Sabah (member of the Kuwaiti royal family). He said, 'It will support and expand the air transport market for both nations, with a focus on meeting the expectations of travellers and aligning with the evolving dynamics of the aviation industry. 'As of now, airlines such as Kuwait Airways, Jazeera Airways, Air India Express, IndiGo, and Akasa Air operate nearly 40 flights daily on the India-Kuwait route. Specifically, Kuwait Airways leads with 54 weekly flights, followed closely by IndiGo with 36, making them the two dominant players on this corridor. According to a Dubai-based newspaper, IndiGo is seeking an additional 5,000 seats per week, while Air India Express and Akasa Air have requested 3,000 seats each. Air India is reportedly aiming to increase its capacity by 1,500 seats. Flights under the expanded capacity are expected to begin in August 2025, with Indian airlines coordinating with Kuwait International Airport to secure new time long-awaited agreement between Kuwait and India comes as part of ongoing efforts to deepen coordination and strategic partnership between the two nations in the civil aviation sector.

Qatar's first maritime training andsimulation centre opens at UDST

Tribune News Network Doha Undersecretary of the Ministry of Transport (MoT) HE Mohammed Abdullah Al Maadeed and President of University of Doha for Science and Technology (UDST) Dr Salem bin Nasser Al Naemi on Thursday inaugurated the Maritime Training and Simulation Center (MTSC) at UDST. The MTSC, the first of its kind in Qatar, is designed to empower current and future maritime professionals with internationally accredited skills and hands-on simulation experience, positioning Qatar as a regional leader in maritime training and innovation. The MTSC provides an interactive learning environment with modern classrooms equipped with state-of-the-art simulation technologies of Classes A and C, featuring navigation and full-mission engine simulation rooms, and maritime safety training facilities including for firefighting and first aid. The MTSC offers specialised training programmes recognised by the International Maritime Organization (IMO). Following the inauguration ceremony, which was attended by several high-profile Qatari officials and maritime industry experts, Al Maadeed toured the facility and was briefed on its services. He also attended an interactive presentation on some of the cutting-edge simulation technologies. The inauguration followed the signing of a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Ministry of Transport and UDST, formalising a long-term partnership to advance Qatar's maritime capabilities. Signed by Al Maadeed and Dr Al Naemi, the MoU reflects a mutual commitment to developing a future-ready workforce through specialised training programmes, international certifications, and collaborative research. It also lays the foundation for sustained cooperation in knowledge exchange and capacity building, driving the growth, resilience, and regional and global competitiveness of Qatar's maritime industry. On this occasion, Al-Maadeed said, 'Inaugurating the MTSC today marks a significant milestone embodying Qatari educational institution's commitment to enhancing the country's maritime infrastructure and capabilities through such training facilities equipped with state-of-the-art world technologies.
