VanEck to launch its first RWA tokenization fund

Crypto Insight14-05-2025

Investment firm VanEck is launching a tokenized real-world asset (RWA) fund that offers exposure to US Treasury bills, developed in partnership with tokenization platform Securitize. The initiative places VanEck among a growing number of traditional finance firms entering the RWA tokenization space.
The fund, called VBILL, will be initially available on Avalanche, BNB Chain, Ethereum and Solana blockchains, VanEck said in a May 13 statement. The fund's minimum subscriptions start at $100,000 for investments running on Avalanche, BNB Chain, and Solana, while the minimum subscription on Ethereum is $1 million.
VanEck joins a burgeoning field of traditional financial firms that have launched RWA tokenized funds, with competitors including BlackRock and Franklin Templeton. In January, Apollo, an investment firm with $751 billion in assets under management, also launched a private credit tokenized fund.
With a market capitalization of $6.9 billion, US Treasurys are among the largest asset classes in tokenized funds, second only to private credit, according to data from RWA.xyz.
VanEck's partner, Securitize, has tokenized over $3.9 billion in assets. In May 2024, it raised $47 million in a strategic funding round led by BlackRock.
Tokenization of real-world assets has many benefits that outpace traditional finance systems, including faster settlement times and liquidity to previously illiquid assets, advocates say. SEC Chair Atkins on RWA tokenization
At the Securities and Exchange Commission's (SEC's) roundtable on May 12, Chair Paul Atkins compared the moving of securities onchain to the transition of songs from analog to digital.
'Just as the shift to digital audio revolutionized the music industry, the migration to onchain securities has the potential to remodel aspects of the securities market by enabling entirely new methods of issuing, trading, owning, and using securities,' Atkins said.
'Blockchain technology holds the promise to allow for a broad swath of novel use cases for securities, fostering new kinds of market activities that many of the Commission's legacy rules and regulations do not contemplate today,' he added.

RWA token market grows 260% in 2025 as firms embrace regulating crypto

The tokenization of real-world assets (RWAs) surged in the first half of 2025 as increased regulatory clarity fueled broader adoption of blockchain-based financial products. Real-world asset tokenization refers to financial and other tangible assets minted on the immutable blockchain ledger, increasing investor accessibility and trading opportunities for these assets. The RWA market surged more than 260% during the first half of 2025, surpassing $23 billion in total valuation. It was $8.6 billion at the beginning of the year, according to a Binance Research report shared with Cointelegraph. Tokenized private credit led the RWA market boom, accounting for about 58% of the market share, followed by tokenized US Treasury debt, which accounted for 34%. 'As regulatory frameworks become clearer, the sector is poised for continued growth and increased participation from major industry players,' the report said. RWAs have no dedicated regulatory framework and are considered securities by the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). However, the sector still benefits from regulatory developments in the broader crypto space. On May 29, the SEC issued new guidance on cryptocurrency staking, a development that was seen as a step toward 'more sensible regulation,' marking a significant win for the industry, Alison Mangiero, head of staking policy at the Crypto Council for Innovation, told Cointelegraph. The industry is awaiting a full Senate vote on the Guiding and Establishing National Innovation for US Stablecoins (GENIUS) Act, which aims to set clear rules for stablecoin collateralization. Other analysts pointed to Bitcoin's temporary price consolidations as the main driver for the RWA market's growth, as a safer investment option with a predictable yield. Corporate FOMO fuels Bitcoin balance sheets A renewed corporate 'FOMO,' short for fear of missing out, is inspiring increasingly more companies to adopt Bitcoin on their balance sheets. At least 124 public companies are now holding Bitcoin as part of their corporate treasury, according to data from While the summer may bring a slowdown in overall crypto market activity, broader macro conditions and regulatory developments will largely dictate the pace of corporate Bitcoin adoption, a Binance Research spokesperson told Cointelegraph, adding: 'Corporate BTC adoption is driven by long-term balance sheet strategy, treasury diversification and capital-raising activity.' Long-term investment perspectives will likely continue driving Bitcoin's corporate adoption, rather than 'short-term liquidity or seasonal market dynamics,' the researchers added. Source:

JPMorgan to accept crypto ETFs as collateral for loans — Report

JPMorgan, the largest bank in the United States by assets, plans to offer trading and wealth-management clients the option of using crypto-linked assets as collateral for loans, according to a June 4 report from Bloomberg. The bank is set to allow financing against crypto exchange-traded funds (ETFs) in some weeks. JPMorgan will begin with BlackRock's iShares Bitcoin Trust, which, according to is the largest US spot Bitcoin ETF with $70.1 billion in net assets. The bank will also consider clients' crypto holdings when assessing net worth, treating digital assets similarly to traditional ones when determining how much a client can borrow against assets. JPMorgan is among US banks betting on crypto initiatives for some of its clients. In 2020, it launched JPM Coin, a dollar-pegged stablecoin and in 2024, the bank reported holding shares of different spot Bitcoin ETFs. JPMorgan CEO Jamie Dimon in May said that the bank would soon allow clients to purchase Bitcoin. Dimon also reiterated his skepticism about the asset class, stating, comparing investing in BTC to smoking: 'I don't think you should smoke, but I defend your right to smoke. I defend your right to buy Bitcoin.' Trump administration eases regulations on banks in crypto US President Donald Trump has been loosening restrictions on banks and digital assets businesses. In April 2025, the Federal Reserve withdrew guidance that discouraged banks from engaging in crypto and stablecoin activities. In May, the US Office of the Comptroller confirmed that banks can now handle the crypto assets of customers held in custody. That same month, The Wall Street Journal reported that US banks were holding early talks to launch a crypto stablecoin. The Trump administration has also announced the creation of a strategic Bitcoin reserve and digital asset stockpile, and is encouraging the passing of stablecoin legislation in the Senate. Source:

Crypto VC deals hit 2025 low despite $909M raised in May

Cryptocurrency investment deals fell to their lowest point of 2025, as analysts cited a mix of market-specific and macroeconomic factors behind weakening venture capital (VC) activity. Only 62 rounds were completed in May, a monthly low last seen in January 2021, according to data from crypto analytics platform RootData. Despite the drop, the 62 investment rounds still raised more than $909 million, making it the second-best month of the year by value, trailing only March's $2.89 billion across 78 rounds The slowdown is likely a 'combination of market prices and sentiment,' as both 'peaked at the end of January and rebounded only in April, before ranging from May 23 on deterioration of tariff rhetoric,' said Aurelie Barthere, principal research analyst at crypto intelligence platform Nansen. A challenging 'macro backdrop' paired with 'higher-for-longer policy rates, jittery bond markets and fresh tariff headlines have made it harder for risk assets to get new M&A deals over the finish line,' according to Patrick Heusser, head of lending at Sentora and a former investment banker: 'Most of the transactions we are seeing are consolidation plays, a pattern that typically emerges in cooling markets or after extended periods of range-bound pricing.' The disappointing year-to-date performance of most crypto assets added to the lack of interest, with Bitcoin 'standing out as a rare bright spot,' he added. M&A activity remains strong Despite the drop in venture deals, merger and acquisition activity remained robust. Coinbase Global acquired Deribit for $2.9 billion in a traditional merger and acquisition (M&A), the exchange announced on May 8. 'I also see many large deals going through the traditional liquid channels,' said Nansen's Barthere, adding that more crypto regulatory clarity will benefit 'direct deals between large companies and protocols, away from the VC market.' The $2.9 billion marks a new all-time high for crypto M&As, according to RootData sourced by Blockworks. The slowdown in VC deals may also be a function of 'seasonal patterns,' for May and June, according to Marcin Kazmierczak, co-founder and chief operations officer at blockchain oracle firm RedStone. 'Macro conditions certainly play a role, but I'd expect activity to pick up again as we head into early Q4; that's historically when the best deals get done and investors return from summer mode,' he told Cointelegraph.
