Rajasthan: Barmer man held for sharing army movement video amid India-Pak tensions
'Under the supervision of the social media cell's nodal officer, a joint team led by department of science and technology (DST) in-charge Sumer Singh Inda and district crime records bureau (DCRB) in-charge Mahipal Singh apprehended the accused,' superintendent of police Narendra Singh Meena said.
Jiyaram, originally from Poonyon Ka Tala in the Gida region of Balotra, had allegedly filmed and shared a video related to Indian army movements on social media platforms. He was arrested under the Indian Civil Defence Code for unauthorised dissemination of sensitive military activity.
'The Barmer police is closely monitoring social media activities. Citizens are strictly advised against capturing or sharing any photos or videos related to the movement of the Indian army on any social media platform. Such actions are a legal violation, and strict legal action will be taken against those involved,' SP Meena added.

Meanwhile, lockdown was imposed on Rajasthan's border districts on Saturday after the authorities issued a red alert in Barmer at 10.19am, as escalating tensions between India and Pakistan entered the fourth day. Authorities ordered immediate closure of all markets and instructed residents to return home and stay off the roads.
The attacks began Thursday night, targeting Ramgarh, Jaisalmer, and Pokhran, with Barmer joining the list of targets on Friday. With drone threats reportedly intercepted earlier in the morning and multiple air raid siren conducted throughout the day, residents in Barmer, Jaisalmer, and Sri Ganganagar were ordered to stay indoors and markets were shut.

India, Pakistan exchange list of prisoners, fishermen; 159 Indians await repatriation despite completing sentences
New Delhi [India], July 1 (ANI): India and Pakistan on Tuesday exchanged, through diplomatic channels simultaneously in New Delhi and Islamabad, the lists of civilian prisoners and fishermen in each other's custody. Under the provisions of the bilateral Agreement on Consular Access 2008, such lists are exchanged every year on 1st of January and July. Pakistan has been requested to ensure the 'safety, security and welfare' of all civilian prisoners and fishermen, pending their release and repatriation to India, the Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement. 'India has shared the names of 382 civilian prisoners and 81 fishermen in its custody, who are Pakistani or are believed-to-be-Pakistani. Similarly, Pakistan has shared the names of 53 civilian prisoners and 193 fishermen in its custody, who are Indian or are believed-to-be-Indian,' it said. The Government of India has called for the 'early release and repatriation' of civilian prisoners and fishermen currently in Pakistani custody, especially those who have already completed their prison sentences. 'Pakistan has been asked to expedite the release and repatriation of 159 Indian fishermen and civilian prisoners, who have completed their sentence,' the MEA said. In addition, Pakistan has been asked to provide immediate consular access to the 26 civilian prisoners and fishermen in Pakistan's custody, it said. 'The Government of India has called for early release and repatriation of civilian prisoners, fishermen along with their boats, and missing Indian defence personnel from Pakistan's custody. Pakistan has been asked to expedite the release and repatriation of 159 Indian fishermen and civilian prisoners, who have completed their sentence. In addition, Pakistan has been asked to provide immediate consular access to the 26 civilian prisoners and fishermen in Pakistan's custody, who are believed-to-be-Indian and have not been provided consular access so far,' the statement read. India has also requested Pakistan to confirm the nationality of 80 believed-to-be-Pakistani prisoners and fishermen currently in India's custody, as their repatriation was pending due to a lack of nationality verification from Pakistani authorities. 'India remains committed to addressing, on priority, all humanitarian matters, including those pertaining to prisoners and fishermen in each other's country. In this context, India has urged Pakistan to expedite the nationality verification process of 80 believed-to-be-Pakistani civilian prisoners and fishermen in India's custody, whose repatriation is pending for want of nationality confirmation from Pakistan,' the statement added. The MEA's statement further highlighted that sustained diplomatic efforts have resulted in the repatriation of 2,661 Indian fishermen and 71 civilian prisoners from Pakistan since 2014, which includes 500 fishermen and 13 civilian prisoners repatriated since 2023. New road will remain as symbol of India-Guyana
Georgetown [Guyana], July 1 (ANI): As Guyana President Irfaan Ali commissioned Phase I of the Ogle to Eccles portion of the East Coast-East Bank road linkage project on Tuesday, the External Affairs Minister conveyed greetings on behalf of the people and government of India and said the new road will not only connect the East Bank and East Coast, reduce travel time and improving connectivity, but would remain as a symbol of 'deep friendship' shared by two nations. In a video message for the people of Guyana, Jaishankar complimented Indian companies for the successful completion of the project. He said the project demonstrates 'the aspirations of Guyanese people and is also emblematic of the able leadership and vision of President Ali's government towards Guyana's progress and prosperity.' In the video message shared by the Indian High Commission in Guyana on X, Jaishankar said, 'During my visit to Guyana last year, I witnessed and experienced the warmth of our relationship and the unbreakable bonds of friendship that connect us. This new road will not only connect the East Bank and East Coast, reducing travel time and improving connectivity, but will remain as a symbol of our deep friendship, signifying the indomitable spirit of our people, which connects our two countries.' He hailed ties between India and Guyana, saying that the two nations have a 'bond of blood' deeply rooted in shared history, common values, and a strong belief in Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam. He expressed India's happiness to see the growth and progress made by Guyana in creating excellent infrastructure. Jaishankar said, 'I am delighted to join you as we witness yet another milestone in the expanding partnership between India and Guyana. Guyana has a very special place in our hearts. India and France wrap up SHAKTI 2025, strengthening military interoperability and strategic defence partnership
Paris [France], July 1 (ANI): The 13th French Foreign Legion Demi-Brigade (13th DBLE) hosted the eighth edition of the Indo-French Army exercise SHAKTI from 18 June to 1 July 2025 in France, according to a release by the Embassy of France in India. The exercise involved more than 500 legionnaires and military personnel from various units of the French Army, the Foreign Legion, as well as the French Air and Space Force, and the French Navy. The Indian contingent of 90 personnel primarily comprised a battalion of the Jammu and Kashmir Rifles, besides personnel from other arms and services. About 50 armoured and tactical vehicles and fighter jets have been deployed in this exercise. The joint drills were held in two phases. The first, which took place from 18 to 21 June in Aveyron, Monclar district, focused on ramping up joint training on shooting, issuing orders, and combining units. The second phase, from 22 to 26 June in Herault, involved the deployment of the Monclar Combined Arms Tactical Group (GTIA) as part of an open-field exercise in semi-urban combat training during both day and night, the release said. The legionnaires of the 13th DBLE had earlier participated in the SHAKTI 2024 exercise in India and were determined to continue developing this strategic partnership with a view to enhancing interoperability, refining and sharing best practices in tactical drills, and training with contemporary military technologies. Exercise SHAKTI was a vital opportunity for Indian and French military personnel to boost joint operational preparedness for facing the toughest combat situations in a sub-conventional environment under Chapter VII of the United Nations Charter, with training being conducted in a realistic semi-urban terrain, while strengthening ties with a strategic partner. Serving as an effective platform for exchanging best practices in tactics, techniques, and procedures (TTPS), Exercise SHAKTI will pave the way for deeper cooperation and mutual respect between the French and the Indian armed forces, as well as significantly reinforcing the Indo-French defence partnership, the Embassy of France in India noted in its release. Indo-French defence exercises such as Exercise GARUDA between the air forces, Exercise VARUNA between the navies, and Exercise SHAKTI between the armies are held regularly and have grown in scope and complexity over the years. They attest to the shared commitment of both nations towards peace, stability, and global security. In this context, the Indo-French Joint Military Exercise SHAKTI-VIII continues to strengthen operational interoperability and mutual cooperation between the Indian and French Armies. Held at Camp Larzac, La Cavalerie in Southern France, the exercise features the participation of 90 personnel, primarily from the Indian Army's Jammu and Kashmir Rifles battalion, alongside the French Army's 13e Demi-Brigade de Legion Etrangre. In an official statement, the Army said, 'The Indian Army contingent has departed today for France to participate in the 8th edition of Exercise Shakti, taking place in La Cavalerie, France, from 18 June to 01 July 2025. The exercise will foster synergy and interoperability in the conduct of counter-terrorism operations in semi-urban terrain.' Exercise SHAKTI is an annual military training engagement conducted alternately in India and France. (ANI)
