Operation Mincemeat: A New Musical to be performed in York in 2026

Yahoo15-05-2025
An award-winning musical is coming to York as part of a world tour.
The Olivier Award-winning and Tony Award-nominated production, Operation Mincemeat: A New Musical, will be performed at the Grand Opera House in June 2026.
The show tells the true story of a covert operation during World War II, Operation Mincemeat, which, in 1943, saw the Allied Forces make use of a particular "trick" in the pocket of a stolen corpse.
The musical, described by a spokesperson as "equal parts farce, thriller, and Ian Fleming-style spy caper," was written and composed by British creative quartet, SpitLip.
They said: "We wish to thank the audiences who continue to carry this show with love and enthusiasm.
"Operation Mincemeat reminds us that in uncertain times, the bonds between allies are more important than ever - and that message feels especially relevant as we consider all the great nations in which our show will now have the opportunity to play.
"This show continues to be the adventure of a lifetime, and we're wildly excited about what's to come."
Operation Mincemeat began as a small production at London's New Diorama Theatre, and later had sold-out runs at venues including Southwark Playhouse and Riverside Studios.
It premiered in the West End on May 9, 2023, at the Fortune Theatre.
Operation Mincemeat: A New Musical will be performed at the Grand Opera House from Monday, June 1 to Saturday, June 6, 2026.
Tickets for the Grand Opera House performances will be made available for sale (date TBC) via atgtickets.com/york

'And Just Like That' costume designer never told series was ending

It's the end of the road for New York's iconic fictional fashionista, Carrie Bradshaw. The 'Sex and the City' spinoff series 'And Just Like That' ended after three seasons on Thursday night — concluding the franchise starring Sarah Jessica Parker, which first premiered on HBO in 1998. Now, costume designer Molly Rogers is revealing that she was never officially told the franchise was over. 12 Sarah Jessica Parker as Carrie Bradshaw in the 'And Just Like That' series finale. Craig Blankenhorn/HBO Max 'It wasn't like HBO sent an email saying, 'pack your bags,'' Rogers exclusively told The Post. 'I think that's the only way these days to keep something a secret. Total blackout,' she added. 12 'And Just Like That' costume designers Danny Santiago and Molly Rogers at an event for ''And Just Like That' on June 8, 2023 in New York City. 'I read it and I started thinking,' oh yeah.' There were a lot of little underlying – I feel like – subliminal messages. No one said it [was the end], but in my mind, I always imagined that Carrie would be happily by herself the last time we saw her.' HBO didn't announce that Season 3 would be the final season before it premiered. Showrunner Michael Patrick King and star Sarah Jessica Parker both shared the news on social media on Aug. 1, just two weeks before the series finale aired. 12 Molly Rogers and Danny Santiago attend the 'And Just Like That' Season 2 Special Screening at The Bvlgari Hotel on June 26, 2023 in London, England. 'Which I'm for. I appreciate it,' she said. She added, 'I'm glad, I might have been weeping as I chose the last shoe, or something. I think it's better to be in the dark, and just think of it fondly, and that you gave it your best shot – even not knowing it was the last shot.' Now streaming on HBO Max, the series finale of 'And Just Like That' ends with Carrie alone in her apartment, apparently at peace with being single. Craig Blankenhorn/HBO Max Rogers, who also worked on 'The Devil Wears Prada' and 'Ugly Betty,' told The Post that the sparkly pink top came from Parker herself. 'That last scene, [I was] kind of thinking it could be the end, but even if it just ended up being the end of Season 3, I thought it has the nod to the original tutu,' she said, referring to the tutu that Carrie wore at the beginning of 'Sex and the City.' She explained that the skirt is by Molly Goddard, and she found it in a London runway show. 'And because this episode was set on Thanksgiving, it was cranberry. Fans criticized the outlandish look, but Rogers said the negative reactions 'really perplexed me.' The 'And Just Like That' costume designer said that the show was 'always intended to be a moving fashion magazine.' Referring to how Carrie donned the now-infamous look during a jaunt to Washington Square Park, Rogers told The Post, 'Did the fans of the show want her to walk through the Washington Square Park eating ice cream in a sun visor?' 12 Sarita Choudhury with Sarah Jessica Parker in the famous hat in 'And Just Like That.' Reflecting on her time on 'Sex and the City' and 'And Just Like That,' Rogers said that it was always exciting to find a fashion 'treasure,' and 'to see [Parker] come into the fitting room and squeal, 'Where did you find this?'' Rogers added, 'I am spoiled for the rest of my life. There's no one that puts on clothes like Ms. Parker.' She joked that it would be 'downhill' after the 'SATC' franchise. 'Now, I'll probably be doing some prison show, or something,' Rogers joked.

Willow Smith Sparks Concern With 'Weird' Tearful Selfie And Explicit Caption

had fans doing a double-take after posting a raw and emotional selfie paired with a shockingly explicit caption. The 24-year-old singer and daughter of and took to her Instagram Stories on Wednesday, sharing a close-up shot of herself with tears streaming down her face. Sporting multiple piercings and a visible neck tattoo, Willow Smith gazed off into the distance, but that's not the only thing that caught viewers' attention. Willow Smith's Tearful Selfie & X-Rated Caption Sparks Backlash Willow took the liberty to write the eyebrow-raising line, "who ate all the p-ssy." While some followers assumed the post was meant as a joke, many voiced concern over her emotional state. "Is she ok? She does not seem like she's ok," one worried fan wrote on X (formerly Twitter). Others slammed Will Smith's daughter, claiming she "is overreacting." "Why are all Will Smith's kids so thirty for attention?" another questioned. "They are thirsty, it's almost alarming." "She's one weird little girl," someone else commented. Smith's NSFW Post Renews Discussion On Her Sexuality The explicit nature of her caption also reignited conversations about Willow's sexuality, something she's been candid about for years. After coming out as bisexual in 2019, she opened up about her views on relationships, revealing in 2021 that she identifies as polyamorous. Speaking candidly on "Red Table Talk" alongside her mother, Jada Pinkett Smith, and grandmother, Adrienne Banfield-Norris, she explained that polyamory, an arrangement where everyone involved agrees it's acceptable to have more than one romantic partner, gives her the freedom to define love on her own terms. While she admitted she would likely cap her relationships at two partners, Willow said her stance is rooted in a rejection of traditional marital norms. "The history of marriage really irks me," she shared at the time. "Just the history of marriage as a whole and what it has represented over the years, for women in particular." She continued, "With polyamory, I feel like the main foundation is the freedom to be able to create a relationship style that works for you, and not just stepping into monogamy because that's what everyone around you says is the right thing to do. So, I was like, 'How can I structure the way that I approach relationships with that in mind?'" Willow Smith Says Nature' Completely Subverts' Human Gender Roles In Eye-Opening Reflection Willow's unconventional approach to love and identity ties closely to her fascination with the natural world, a passion she says continually reshapes her understanding of relationships and gender. In a candid Instagram Live session earlier this year, the Grammy-nominated singer reflected on how nature defies the rigid roles often imposed by human society. "The different expressions of how the different genders and the different animals procreate is truly a tapestry of beautiful, like, relational dynamics," she explained, recalling how studying animal behavior, from lion prides to seahorses and even spiders, opened her eyes to the limitless ways living beings can connect and survive. Smith Says Curiosity Is Key To Defying Society's 'Weird Gender Roles' For Willow, these revelations go far beyond biology. "Nature really has given us such a sprawling representation of so many different kinds of ways that animals relate, so many different ways that the genders relate, that from a human cultural perspective, it really blows our minds," she said. "Like even looking at it through our weird gender roles, nature completely subverts all of that." She believes this curiosity is essential to resisting societal and systemic pressures. "In my mind, curiosity is a protection mechanism," Willow added. "It makes it harder for the powers that be to pillage our world and pillage the people, because our curiosity has led us to a point of love and devotion." Inside Willow Smith's Family Will Smith's tight-knit family has long been a focal point of public fascination, with each member carving out their own path in Hollywood while maintaining deep personal bonds. The Oscar-winning actor shares his eldest son, Trey, with ex-wife Sheree Zampino, and the two have been open about the work it took to repair their relationship after years of distance following his 1995 divorce. Smith later found love with Jada Pinkett Smith, whom he married in 1997. Together, they welcomed son Jaden in 1998 and daughter Willow in 2000. Solve the daily Crossword

Leonardo DiCaprio reveals passing on this role as his 'biggest regret'

Leonardo DiCaprio not only feels younger than his current age of 50, but he also pines for a role he passed on when he was younger: Dirk Diggler. The Oscar-winning actor told Paul Thomas Anderson, the director of the 1997 film "Boogie Nights," his "biggest regret" is not doing that film with Anderson. The actor had a good excuse in that he had already committed to the role of Jack Dawson in "Titanic," which became a blockbuster when it hit theaters the same year. DiCaprio does star in Anderson's newest film, "One Battle After Another," which hits theaters Sept. 26. A discussion between the two appears in the September issue of Esquire. What to watch: Over 30 years after its debut, this classic film is dominating streaming Leonardo DiCaprio regrets not being star of 'Boogie Nights' When Anderson, whose other films include "Licorice Pizza" and "Phantom Thread," asked DiCaprio if he had any career regrets, the actor said, according to the Esquire article, "I'll say it even though you're here: My biggest regret is not doing 'Boogie Nights.' It was a profound movie of my generation. I can't imagine anyone but Mark (Wahlberg) in it. When I finally got to see that movie, I just thought it was a masterpiece. It's ironic that you're the person asking that question, but it's true." In the film, Wahlberg's role is that of Diggler, who becomes a porn star in the 1970s adult film industry. In a commentary track that appears on the DVD and Blu-ray Disc releases of the film, Anderson said he wanted Wahlberg or DiCaprio to play Diggler after seeing their performances in "The Basketball Diaries," notes movie blog Film School Rejects. Also in the Esquire interview, DiCaprio, who has been known to date much younger women, told Anderson he felt like he was 32 years old and "turned emotionally 35 last year." In the upcoming film, "One Battle After Another," DiCaprio plays a one-time revolutionary faced with rescuing his daughter, who has been captured by an alt-right group. Also appearing in the film are Sean Penn and Benicio Del Toro. The film is his and Anderson's first together. "I've been wanting to work with you – Paul – for something like 20 years now, and I loved this idea of the washed-up revolutionary trying to erase his past and disappear and try and live some sort of normal life raising his daughter," DiCaprio told Anderson in their discussion. Discussing DiCaprio's role in the film, Anderson says, "He is a nice character, someone who starts out wanting to change the world on the far left but gets increasingly cranky and closed off as he gets older."
