Frem from Maarab: We will run in upcoming municipal elections in alliance with Lebanese Forces, Kataeb, Mansour Al-Bonn

National News25-03-2025
NNA - Lebanese Forces party leader Samir Geagea met today in Maarab with MP Neemat Frem, who heads the "Project Watan". Frem described his meeting with Geagea as "distinctive," announcing an alliance with the Lebanese Forces in the upcoming municipal elections in Jounieh.
He said, "I was honored to meet with Dr. Geagea, and I have good news for the people of Keserwan. The electoral alliance has been finalized, and we will run in the elections together, starting from Jounieh to all of Keserwan."
Frem continued, "This municipal electoral agreement brings good news to the people of Jounieh. Today, we will participate in these elections as four allies: the Lebanese Forces, the Kataeb Party, Sheikh Mansour Al-Bonn, and us."
He added, "This gives me great hope that Jounieh will be represented by its people and, at the same time, will have a clear vision for rhe economy, development and progress, fulfilling all the dreams of its citizens."
Asked about the parliamentary elections, Frem said: "We are working with a number of fellow MPs to submit a draft law aimed at enabling Lebanese citizens to directly elect the Parliament Council and the Senate, in a manner similar to the current law, but with an amendment stipulating that expatriates elect in Lebanon while the Senate is elected according to Orthodox law, i.e., exclusively according to sectarian affiliation."

Samir Geagea: Sheikh Naim Qassem's speech is a direct threat to Lebanon's government and institutions

Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea declared that 'the speech delivered yesterday by Sheikh Naim Qassem is unacceptable by all standards, as it represents a direct threat to the Lebanese government first and foremost, to the parliamentary majority that granted it confidence, and to all constitutional institutions in Lebanon, particularly the presidency and the premiership. It is also a direct threat to every free Lebanese citizen.' In a statement, Geagea said: 'If Sheikh Naim assumes that there are no longer free Lebanese citizens, he gravely mistaken. And if he assumes that by this approach he can impose an authority he never truly had over these free Lebanese citizens, then he is mistaken again and again.' He added: 'In these sensitive moments in Lebanon's history, we, as free Lebanese — who make up the overwhelming majority in the country — stand firmly behind our constitutional institutions, represented especially by the president and the prime minister, who are striving with all their patriotism, determination, and strength to restore Lebanon to itself, to reestablish the proper functioning of the state, to bring Lebanon's friends back to its side, and to renew the support of the international community.' Geagea stressed that Lebanon is going through a truly foundational stage, saying: 'We will spare no effort in supporting our constitutional institutions, standing behind and beside them, and doing everything possible to prevent anyone from undermining this attempt once again.'

Salam slams Qassem's civil war 'threats'

by Naharnet Newsdesk 16 August 2025, 13:42 Prime Minister Nawaf Salam has accused Hezbollah chief Sheikh Naim Qassem of making "unacceptable" threats to unleash civil war, after the Hezbollah leader vowed to confront government plans to disarm his group. In a post on X, Salam said Qassem's remarks "constitute an implicit threat of civil war." He added that "any threat or intimidation related to such a war is totally unacceptable." Salam also hit back at Hezbollah's characterization of the government's disarmament push as an American-Israeli effort. "Our decisions are purely Lebanese, made by our cabinet, and no one tells us what to do," he said. "The Lebanese have the right to stability and security... without which the country will not be able to recover, and no reconstruction or investment will take place," Salam added. Earlier on Friday, Qassem had said that "the government is implementing an American-Israeli order to end the resistance, even if it leads to civil war and internal strife." "The resistance will not surrender its weapons while aggression continues, occupation persists, and we will fight it... if necessary to confront this American-Israeli project no matter the cost," Qassem added. He also urged the government "not to hand over the country to an insatiable Israeli aggressor or an American tyrant with limitless greed," adding the Lebanese state would "bear responsibility for any internal explosion and any destruction of Lebanon."
