The weapon, valued at approximately Rs500, was seized. Police suspect that the youth, identified as Shreyash Gaikwad, a resident of Gali No. 6, Lashkaribagh, was carrying the weapon with the intent to commit a cognisable offence. He was found in violation of a preventive order and was booked under Section 4/25 of the Arms Act, along with Section 135 of the Maharashtra Police Act.

Babbar Khalsa International Operative, 22, Arrested For Punjab Grenade Attack
New Delhi: The Special Cell of the Delhi Police has arrested a 22-year-old man linked to the banned terror group Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) and wanted in connection with a grenade attack in Punjab. The accused was identified as Karanbir alias Karan, said Amit Kaushik, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Special Cell/New Delhi Range. Karanbir was arrested in connection with the grenade attack at Police Station Quila Lal Singh, in Punjab's Gurdaspur district in April, the police said in a statement on Sunday. The accused was arrested in Gurdaspur, Punjab, under the Arms Act on Saturday. Confessing to his involvement in the grenade attack, Karanbir said that he was in contact with a person from Punjab, but based abroad and handling operations for BKI. The accused also shared that he facilitated the stay of two persons at his home before the attack, who had executed the task of launching the grenade at Police Station Qila Lal Singh. The accused revealed that his handler used to instruct him through social media applications to commit criminal and terror activities. Karanbir revealed that he also visited a West Asian country in 2024. Karanbir told the police that he received money from his handler for executing the said grenade attack. Karanbir's brother, Gursewak, who was also involved in the attack, has already been arrested in the case. Karanbir was arrested based on the leads provided by Akashdeep alias Bazz of Amritsar, an accused in a case registered under the Arms Act. Akashdeep, who was arrested in Indore on Tuesday, was also found involved in the grenade attack case at the Police Station Quila Lal Singh. Notably, soon after the attack, a social media post by Happy Passia, Mannu Agwan and Gopi Nawanshahria, affiliated with BKI, claimed responsibility for the attack and also extended a threat to Delhi. The National Investigation Agency is probing the case. Further investigation is underway.

Proclaimed offender held nine years after murder
New Delhi: Delhi Police Crime Branch has arrested a proclaimed offender who was absconding for nearly nine years in a gruesome 2016 murder case in Uttam Nagar. The accused, 33-year-old Antaj Ansari, was finally traced and apprehended in Mohali, Punjab. Originally from Bihar's Siwan district, Antaj was residing in Delhi's Om Vihar at the time of the crime. He was wanted for the murder of his landlord, Rahim alias Salman, whose body was found partially burnt, wrapped in a blanket, and tied with electric wires in a vacant plot on Nov 27, 2016. Police said the case was initially a blind one, with no leads. Forensic analysis and local intelligence later revealed that Antaj, Rahim, and an associate, Devender alias Chhota Balle, were drinking together when a heated argument escalated. "In a fit of rage, Antaj and Devender struck Rahim with an iron rod, followed by a brick, and then stabbed him with a kitchen knife," said DCP (Crime) Harsh Indora. "After ensuring he was dead, they wrapped the body in a blanket and dumped it in Mohan Garden. They returned the next day, confirmed the victim's death, and set the body on fire to conceal the identity. In Dec 2016, they were caught while allegedly planning a robbery. During the arrest, they reportedly pulled out pistols but were overpowered by police. Two firearms and live cartridges were seized, and a separate Arms Act case was registered. While Devender stood trial, Antaj skipped proceedings and was declared a proclaimed offender in Dec 2024. Acting on a tip-off, police tracked him to Mohali and arrested him near a guest house on July 25.

Police arrest key accused in 2014 Bejai shootout linked to Ravi Pujari gang
Mangaluru (Karnataka), Jul 27 (PTI) A fugitive accused in the 2014 shootout at Bharati Builders' office in Bejai, Mangaluru– allegedly orchestrated by associates of underworld gangster Ravi Pujari–has been arrested after nearly a decade on the run, police said on Sunday. Acting on reliable inputs and under the guidance of the City Police Commissioner, a team from Urwa Police Station, including Inspector Venugopal and constables Pramod, Narayan, and Govindraj, apprehended the accused Ganesh Sakat in Pandharpur, Maharashtra, Police said in a release. Sakat was produced before the court, and has been remanded to judicial custody, it said. The case, registered at Urwa Police Station, under sections 447 (Criminal trespass), 120(B) (criminal conspiracy), 307 (attempt to murder) of the Indian Penal Code and Section 27 of the Arms Act. The accused, a native of Karad in Maharashtra's Satara district, had been absconding since 2015 after failing to appear before the JMFC 3rd Court in Mangaluru, which subsequently issued a warrant for his arrest. Police revealed that the accused is also wanted in another case registered at Kavoor Police Station. Additionally, he faces charges under the Arms Act in Karad, Maharashtra.
