Revealed: Why Muslim UFC legend Khabib Nurmagomedov 'refused' to take picture with woman - just weeks after he declined to shake TV host Kate Scott's hand despite greeting all of her male colleagues

The reason that UFC legend Khabib Nurmagomedov originally turned down a photo with a woman last week has become clear.
Khabib, 36, is one of the most impressive fighters in UFC history after winning all 27 of his career bouts.
Since retiring, he has focused on coaching and mentoring fighters and is also regularly seen attending high-profile sporting events.
However, a clip of Nurmagomedov, 36, circulated on TikTok last week where he appeared to urge a woman to turn around when she approached him for a photo at an event.
The same individual returned moments later and did take a picture with the 36-year-old and fans have noticed one major difference.
In the original approach, the woman had a drink in her hand, which appeared to be alcoholic.
It seems that Khabib instructed her to put down the drink before returning for a photo without it in her hand.
This is because the former fighter is a devout Muslim and in Islam, alcohol is prohibited, with the holy book The Quran forbidding the consumption of it.
And several fans were quick to praise the 36-year-old for maintaining his faith despite all of his fame.
One said: 'A man with moral values and discipline,' before another added: 'Money hasn't changed this man, stuck to his beliefs and principles.'
A further fan added: 'He's a devout Muslim and doesn't like to engage in any type of way that endorses alcohol.'
Khabib regularly spoke about and was involved with his religion throughout his fighting career.
The Russian would often be seen praying after his UFC bouts and previously opened up on his faith in 2023 when speaking on his YouTube channel.
'A lot of people, they are a little bit shy to show they are Muslim,' he said. 'Some people don't like this, but who cares? My religion taught (sic) this to me: to be a nice person, to be a good man, to be a good family man.
'You know, like, to be a good neighbour, to be a good friend. This is only because of my religion. Because of my faith, you know.
'And everybody has (sic) their own way, but I choose to show this. To show this, to represent this and to be proud of this.'
However, Khabib had generated controversy last month when he failed to shake TV host Kate Scott's hand at the Champions League final despite greeting all of her male colleagues.
CBS Sports covered the action with their regular punditry trio of Thierry Henry, Jamie Carragher and Micah Richards and presenter Scott.
After Les Parisiens' crushing 5-0 victory, the group were joined at pitch side by popular streamer IShowSpeed and the UFC icon.
As Khabib made his way over to the group he embraced each member individually before declining a handshake from Scott as her hand remained awkwardly outstretched.
Nurmagomedov then appeared to clarify his refusal to the presenter - previously known as Kate Abdo prior to her marriage to boxing trainer Malik Scott last year - who subsequently apologised on air.
This is because in Islam it is forbidden to touch a member of the opposite sex that you are not related to.

Tyson Fury and Tom Aspinall have strong relationship and previously sparred

Tyson Fury is delighted with Tom Aspinall 's elevation to undisputed UFC heavyweight champion following Jon Jones ' retirement. 'Get up [there], my boy!', said the Gypsy King on his Instagram story in reaction to 'Bones' calling it a day and therefore elevating Aspinall. Fury has sparred with Aspinall years ago and the pair maintain a strong mutual respect. Back in 2022, Aspinall spoke about Fury's influence on him, saying: 'I think Tyson Fury's helped me the most mentally. Obviously, I improved a lot. My skill set improved, my boxing improved, definitely. 'It brought me a long way skill-wise. But more so mentally. If Tyson Fury ever gets a watch of this, 'Thank you.' I've never actually had the chance to thank him for it. 'He has completely changed my career and the outlook of what I've got on combat and fighting. He added: 'Without him I wouldn't be where I am right now because my mentality's changed completely since I trained with him. It was quite a long time ago now, I was in my early 20s, I wasn't sure if I wanted to carry on with this sport or box or maybe stop fighting altogether. 'I didn't know what I wanted to do and yeah, he just completely changed my whole outlook on everything so I appreciate it.' Jones chose not to fight Aspinall in what would have been the biggest pay-per-view of the year, leading to accusations that he was ducking the Brit. Aspinall has been dominant in the octagon and won every fight in the UFC by finish, barring a defeat by Curtis Blaydes due to a knee injury. A day after Jones announced his retirement, it emerged he is facing a misdemeanour charge of fleeing the scene of an accident. A criminal summons accusing Jones of the charge was filed in Albuquerque Metropolitan Court Tuesday. Jones has been called to appear in court on July 24 for a bond arraignment. His lawyer said he was stunned by the charge and believes the police are wrongly targeting his client. A police officer was said to be investigating a road accident on February 21 when they discovered a woman in the passenger seat of one of the vehicles, according to a police report obtained by Mail Sport. The woman was reportedly 'exhibiting signs of significant intoxication and lacking clothing from the waist down.' Dana White said he had no idea whether Jones' retirement was connected to the legal troubles. Interestingly, when Fury was previously asked about whether Aspinall would beat Jones, he said: ''Jon Jones is the Tyson Fury of boxing. People are unable to beat him. Very tough one. 'Even though Tom Aspinall's a mate, Jon Jones is probably considered the greatest of all time in MMA, so I don't know. 'It's probably like, can anyone beat Vladimir Klitschko before Tyson Fury beat him? Probably not, but then Tyson Fury beat him. So if anyone can beat Jon Jones, it'll be Tom Aspinall. Nobody else.'

Dana White reveals how close Jon Jones came to Tom Aspinall fight and weighs in on legal trouble, after 'Bones' was accused of 'fleeing accident involving half-naked woman'

Dana White has revealed the mega-fight between Jon Jones and Tom Aspinall was 'done', before the American changed his mind and retired. The UFC president had dropped the bombshell that Jones called it a day two days ago, before the heavyweight - who has been stripped of his belt - then confirmed the news with a post on social media. Less than 24 hours later, it emerged that Jones was facing a misdemeanor charge of fleeing the scene of an accident. The woman was reportedly 'exhibiting signs of significant intoxication and lacking clothing from the waist down.' When asked about Jones' legal trouble, retirement and how close the Aspinall fight was to getting made, White told reporters: 'We had the fight done. You saw me talking about it very confidently that this fight was going to happen and he changed his mind.' 'I saw it today,' White said about Jones' latest legal issues. 'When I saw it today I said everybody's going to think this is why he retired. Maybe that is why he retired. Who the hell knows. I don't know. These are all questions you've got to ask him.' White also added: 'He called us and just started saying "you know what, I think I'm done, I want to retire. It's been a great run, I appreciate everything" and that was it. 'He was absolutely, positively sure that he wanted to retire and we said why don't you sleep on it, if you wake up in the morning if that's how you still feel. 'You never know what Jon Jones is dealing with and then you wake up the next day [and there's new criminal charges]. Who knows. I don't know everything that went into this decision. 'It's something you guys are going to have to ask him if you ever see him again … all I know is he made it very clear that he wanted to retire and I don't disagree with him.' Jones' lawyer said he was 'stunned' by the decision to charge his client. 'It is truly unbelievable that the police would waste this amount of resources on such a case attorney Christopher Dodd told TMZ. 'The only thing I can think of is that the police were targeting Jon for improper purposes. We will get to the bottom of it and make sure that this baseless case is dismissed.' 'I am stunned by the Albuquerque Police Department's decision to charge him in this new case. In the thousands of cases I have handled in my career, I have never seen a case as strange and unwarranted as this one. 'Jon was not driving that night; he wasn't in the car,' Dodd continued. 'It appears that an intoxicated woman used a false allegation against Jon to avoid being arrested for DWI, and the police fell for it. 'Based on the criminal complaint, it looks like they went so far as to seek a warrant for Jon's cell phone records while conducting a misdemeanour traffic investigation. I have never heard of such a thing.' Jones has not yet commented on the legal matter himself but wrote his retirement post on social media. 'Today, I'm officially announcing my retirement from the UFC,' it read. This decision comes after a lot of reflection, and I want to take a moment to express my deepest gratitude for the journey I've experienced over the years. 'From the first time I stepped into the Octagon, my goal was to push the boundaries of what was possible in this sport. Becoming the youngest UFC champion in history, defending my title against some of the best fighters in the world, and sharing unforgettable moments with fans across the globe—these are memories I'll cherish forever. 'I've faced incredible highs and some tough lows, but every challenge has taught me something valuable and made me stronger, both as a fighter and as a person. 'I want to thank the UFC, Dana, Hunter, Lorenzo, God, my family, coaches, teammates, and all the fans who have stood by me through every chapter. Your unwavering support and belief in me have been my foundation. To my fellow fighters, thank you for bringing out the best in me and for the respect we've shared inside and outside the cage. 'As I close this chapter of my life, I look forward to new opportunities and challenges ahead. MMA will always be a part of who I am, and I'm excited to see how I can continue to contribute to the sport and inspire others in new ways. Thank you all for being part of this incredible journey with me. The best is yet to come.' Jones vs Aspinall would have undoubtedly been the biggest fight this year and the American has been accused of avoiding the Brit for some time now. It seems as though fans will never know if Aspinall could have dethroned the man many consider to be the greatest and he will want to quickly find an alternative opponent to make up for lost time.
