KwaZulu-Natal braces for scattered thunderstorms

KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) will face a wet Wednesday, 6 August, as a cold front will trigger scattered showers and thunderstorms across much of the province, particularly in central and northern regions. According to forecaster Odirile Modipa, 'We are expecting isolated to scattered thunderstorms in central KZN, extending into the north and moving toward the Free State.' While Durban is forecast to remain relatively mild, residents inland may experience sudden downpours. Durban will see a maximum of 20°C, with cooler conditions inland. Coastal towns like Richards Bay and Port Shepstone may stay warmer but remain under threat of intermittent rainfall. 'Thunderstorms may lead to localised flooding in low-lying areas,' Modipa warned. Motorists are urged to drive cautiously. 'Keep headlights on and reduce speed if visibility worsens,' Modipa advised. She also noted that the storms could still pose danger, although not classified as severe. Let us know by leaving a comment below, or send a WhatsApp to 060 011 021 1. Gauteng to see a slight warm-up after a chilly start

Gauteng residents will wake up to chilly conditions on Wednesday, 6 August. Still, temperatures are expected to rise slightly during the day, offering relief from the cold front sweeping through central South Africa. Forecaster Odirile Modipa confirmed that while overnight lows hovered around 6°C in Johannesburg and 7°C in Pretoria, daytime temperatures will edge upwards. 'Johannesburg can expect a maximum of 22°C, while Pretoria will warm up to around 23°C,' Modipa said. Gauteng will enjoy mostly clear to partly cloudy skies throughout the day. Unlike other parts of the country hit by thunderstorms and snow, the province remains dry and stable. 'Gauteng is not in the path of severe weather activity,' said Modipa. 'We're seeing more settled conditions compared to the central and southern parts of the country.' Despite the daytime warm-up, cold nights remain a concern. Residents are advised to dress warmly as nighttime temperatures drop below 10°C. Let us know by leaving a comment below, or send a WhatsApp to 060 011 021 1. WEATHER: Cold front to bring rain in Gauteng on Thursday

Heavy rain and cold weather conditions are expected in Gauteng on Thursday as a cold front moves across much of the country, according to the South African Weather Service (SAWS). This cold snap will bring freezing temperatures starting Tuesday and continuing through the end of the week. These conditions may represent winter's last cold spell before the transition to spring. Gauteng is preparing for a significant drop in temperatures from Thursday into the weekend. Forecasts indicate that Johannesburg could reach a low of 5°C on Thursday, with daytime highs only reaching 12°C. In Pretoria, temperatures are expected to drop to 7°C, with a high of 14°C. Scattered rainfall is expected in Gauteng on Thursday throughout the day. Additionally, daytime temperatures across most parts of the country are projected to decrease significantly beginning Wednesday, with a gradual recovery expected from Saturday onward. The South African Weather Service will continue to monitor further developments related to the weather systems and will provide updates regarding the cold front. Residents are advised to limit outdoor activities, especially during rain or snow, and to ensure proper ventilation when using fuel-based heating to prevent the buildup of carbon monoxide.
