Jind: 13-yr-old among 4 arrested for gang-rape, murder
The Jind police have arrested three adults and a minor for their alleged involvement in the gang-rape of a 35-year-old woman and the murder of her five-year-old daughter on the night of April 22.
The accused have been identified as Hamid Khan, 46, Biru, 18, Shiva, 18, and a 13-year-old boy, who was allegedly involved in the murder but not the rape.
According to Amit Kharab, a spokesperson of the police, the three adult accused gang-raped both the woman and her daughter before strangling the five-year-old girl to death. 'The minor boy was only involved in the murder and has been sent to a safe house, while the three adults have been taken on one-day police remand,' he added.
The medical examination of the victims in Sonepat on April 26 confirmed rape.
Police said that the three adult accused later confessed to the crime.
A senior officer, speaking on condition of anonymity, said that Hamid admitted to the rape and murder, claiming they killed the child after the woman used harsh words against him during an earlier altercation with her husband.
In her complaint, the woman recounted that on April 22, her husband had an argument with their neighbour, which led to a physical assault. The matter was reported to the police, and after mediation, they returned home. Later, the neighbour and three others allegedly abducted her daughter, strangled her with a rope, and dumped her body near a dustbin. The accused then returned to gang-rape the woman before leaving her unconscious near the same spot.
The family buried the girl's body on April 24, but after the woman reported the crime, the police exhumed the body for an autopsy.
'Initially, the accused were charged with gang-rape and murder on April 24. Later on April 27, sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act were added to the case,' said an officer.

JE caught while taking bribe
Bhubaneswar: A Junior Engineer was caught while accepting a bribe of Rs 8,000 from a contractor for clearing pending bills in Bargarh district on Tuesday, a Vigilance official said. Junior Engineer Susmita Oram had joined the government service under the District Rural Development Agency (DRDA), Bargarh, at Gaisilet block in January 2024. This was her first posting, the officer said. The JE has been apprehended by the Odisha Vigilance official while demanding and taking a bribe of Rs 8,000 from the contractor (complainant) as the last instalment of her overall demand of bribe of Rs 32,000 for measurement and clearing pending bill in connection with the road improvement work under MGNREGA, he said. The estimated cost of the work is Rs 9.50 lakh, out of which, bills worth Rs 3.15 lakh had been paid earlier, he said. The official further said the JE was demanding a bribe of 10 per cent of the paid bill amount to clear pending bills. Out of the total demanded amount Rs 32,000, she had earlier taken Rs 24,000 a few days back and was demanding the remaining amount of Rs 8,000 to clear the rest bill. The entire bribe money has been recovered from the possession of the JE and seized, he said. Following the trap, simultaneous searches were conducted at two locations linked to the JE. A case has been registered at Sambalpur Vigilance police station under the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018 and further investigation is in progress, Vigilance sources said.

MSc Chemisty graduate arrested for manufacturing MD
MUMBAI: A 43-year-old MSc Chemistry graduate was arrested on Tuesday for manufacturing mephedrone at a chemical factory in Boisar, where he was employed. The accused, Vijay Katke, a MSc Chemistry graduate, was employed at the factory as a chemical engineer. On a weekend when there were no workers in the factory, he experimented with producing mephedrone and was successful. He then began manufacturing the drug regularly on weekends, said a police officer. On Tuesday, the police raided the factory and seized mephedrone worth ₹11.2 lakh. The act came into light last week when the police caught Farhan Khan, a Jogeshwari resident, with 71 grams of mephedrone worth ₹2.8 lakh and arrested him. On being questioned, Khan told the police that a cab driver, Pratik Jadhav, delivered the drugs to him. Following the lead, the police tracked down Jadhav. During interrogation, Jadhav told the police that he obtained the drugs from Katke and revealed the address of the chemical factory where Katke had been manufacturing the drug for the past few weeks. The Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation police and Palghar police raided the chemical factory, seized the drug and arrested Katke on Tuesday. A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The three accused, Katke, Khan and Jadhav, were produced in a court and were remanded to police custody on Tuesday.

Seven more held in minor girl rape case
Puttaparthi: In a grave incident reported from Yedugurrallapalli village of Ramagiri Mandal, district police have arrested seven more individuals, including a juvenile, in connection with the sexual assault of a 15-year-old minor girl. District Superintendent of Police V Ratna, IPS, confirmed the arrests and revealed that the accused have been remanded to judicial custody. The details of the case were disclosed during a press conference held on Tuesday at the District Police Office conference hall. SP V Ratna addressed the media alongside Dharmavaram DSP B Hemanth Kumar, who led the investigation. The arrests were carried out by the Dharmavaram Sub-Divisional Police team under his supervision. Budida Rajesh (34), Tumu Hemanth (26), Chinna Basi Karthik (18), Basi Sonappa (46), Anke Muktanand @ Jukku (23), Budida Rajendra (29) and a Juvenile (Child in Conflict with Law) – Identity withheld as per legal provisions. All suspects were arrested on June 10 and have been produced in court. The crime reportedly occurred over an extended period, with the minor alleging repeated abuse by the accused. Based on her complaint, a case was registered under Cr. No. 21/2025 at Ramagiri Police Station. These teams conducted extensive search operations that led to the arrests. Further efforts are underway to track and arrest any remaining accused.
