Unhoused man wins $1m jackpot from California lottery scratcher
An unhoused man in California won $1m from a lottery ticket that he bought from a liquor store on the state's central coast.
The winner, who has not been publicly identified, purchased the scratcher ticket from Sandy's Deli-Liquor in San Luis Obispo where he has been a customer for years, according to media reports.
'He came to the store, he scratched it and is like: 'Oh my god, is that real?' the store manager, Wilson Samaan, told KSBY. 'He's like: 'Man, I'm not homeless anymore!' I'm like: 'Man, you hit the jackpot.''
The man initially thought he had won $100,000 before Samaan confirmed he had in fact won $1m. Samaan later drove the man, who doesn't have a car, to Fresno so that he could turn in the ticket in person rather than mailing it. 'I told him: 'That's a million-dollar ticket … I will drive you,'' he said.
The winner told the outlet that the prize was 'life-changing' and that he planned to use it for a down payment on a home in the area and for a car.
In a video posted by a local business owner, the man confirmed his win, saying: 'I won $1M here in SLO at Sandy's liquor store and yes, I just can't wait to get off the streets.'
He won the prize with a Triple Red 777 scratcher. The odds of winning a prize of $1m with the ticket are one in 2,047,423, according to the California Lottery.

Lottery officials cannot share information about a claim until it is verified, at which point the winner's name and other prize details become public, according to a statement from the California Lottery. The California Lottery said it processes 10,000 claims a month, and more than 100 a year are $1m or larger.

It reported an increase of 1% and 3% in organic net sales and organic operating income, respectively, during fiscal 2025. The company's results were indicative of pressure on consumers and their stretched discretionary budgets rather than a decline in premium American spirits, Consumer Edge analyst Connor Rattigan said. Brown-Forman's sales during the quarter ended April 30 fell 7% to $894 million, compared with analysts' average estimate of $967.4 million, according to data compiled by LSEG. Its earnings per share of 31 cents also missed the estimate of 34 cents.

Remy Cointreau withdraws its mid-term goals and posts lower annual profits
PARIS, June 4 (Reuters) - French spirits group Remy Cointreau ( opens new tab reported a smaller-than-expected 30.5% drop in annual organic operating profit, withdrew its mid-term goals and said sales would return to mid-to-single-digit growth during the next financial year. The maker of Remy Martin cognac and Cointreau liqueur said on Wednesday that the lower profits reflected weak sales in its key markets of China and the United States, where the group also faces tariff threats. Remy Cointreau, which last week named luxury goods veteran Franck Marilly as its new chief executive, said it had decided to withdraw its objectives for 2029-30, citing continued uncertainty tariffs. Its group operating profit fell 30.5 percent on an organic basis to 217 million euros ($246.7 million) for the full year ended March 31, 2025, which compared with analysts' expectations of a 31.7% fall in a company-compiled consensus of 15 analysts. One of America's most important airports continued to be hit by delays and cancellations on Monday as the Senate's top Democrat called for an investigation into the chaotic crisis. The problems at Newark, a busy airport in New Jersey that acts as one of the main hubs for New York City and the surrounding region, have persisted since last week, causing serious issues for tens of thousands of travelers. Senate minority leader Chuck Schumer, who is from New York, called for an investigation into the 'chaos' that the Federal Aviation Authority says has been sparked by an air traffic controller shortage and thick cloud cover.
